Surah Al-Qasas (The Stories) — سورة القصص - **Verse:** 61 / 88 · **Juz:** 20 · **Mushaf page:** 392 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-qasas/verse-61 ## Arabic اَفَمَنْ وَعَدْنَاهُ وَعْداً حَسَناً فَهُوَ لَاق۪يهِ كَمَنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُ مَتَاعَ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ هُوَ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ مِنَ الْمُحْضَر۪ينَ ## Transcription Afaman waAAadnahu waAAdan hasananfahuwa laqeehi kaman mattaAAnahu mataAAa alhayatiaddunya thumma huwa yawma alqiyamati minaalmuhdareen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Is someone whom We have promised good and who then obtains it, the same as someone whom We have given enjoyment in the life of the dunya and who then, on the Day of Rising, is one of those brought to punishment? ### Progressive Muslims Is one whom We promised a good promise, and it will come to pass, equal to one whom We provided with the goods of this life, then on the Day of Resurrection he is of those who will suffer ### Shabbir Ahmed Is, then, he to whom We have given a goodly promise which he shall see fulfilled comparable to the one whom We have given the good things of this life, but who on the Resurrection Day, is to be among those brought up for punishment? (24:55). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Is then he whom We have promised a fair promise which he will meet like him to whom We gave the enjoyment of the life of this world, then on the Day of Resurrection is among those summoned? ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Is one whom We promised a good promise, and it will come to pass, equal to one whom We provided with the goods of this life, then on the Day of Resurrection he is of those who will be summoned? ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Is one whom we promised a good promise that will surely come to pass, equal to one whom we provide with the temporary materials of this life, then suffers eternal doom on the Day of Resurrection? ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Can one who was given a better promise, which he will find come true, be like him who was given a little enjoyment of this life, but who will afterwards be brought (to judgement) on the Day of Resurrection? ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will obtain like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]? ### Muhammad Asad Is, then, he to whom We have given that goodly promise which he shall see fulfilled [on his resurrection] comparable to one on whom We have bestowed [all] the enjoyments of this worldly life but who, on Resurrection Day, will find himself among those that shall be arraigned [before Us]? ### Marmaduke Pickthall Is he whom We have promised a fair promise which he will find (true) like him whom We suffer to enjoy awhile the comfort of the life of the world, then on the Day of Resurrection he will be of those arraigned? ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Now, he to whom We have promised a good which he is going to obtain — can he be like him whom We have given the good things of this life, but who will be brought up for punishment[1] on the Day of Judgement? _Footnotes_ - [1] This is the fourth answer to their excuse. To understand it fully one should bear in mind two things: First, the present life which is no more than a few years for anyone is only the temporary phase of a journey. The real life which will be everlasting is yet to come. In this life man may amass as much provision as he may please and live the few years at his disposal as comfortably as he can, it will in any case come to an end, and man will depart from the world empty handed. No sensible person will like to make the bad bargain of suffering the everlasting distress and affliction in the Hereafter in exchange for the pleasures and comforts of his brief sojourn in the world. As against this, he would rather prefer to face a few years of hardships here and earn the goodness that may earn him everlasting bliss and comfort in the eternal life of the next world. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab You people just think and think but this: Does he whom We promised Our efficacious grace and who found that it has effected the end for which it was given compare with him whom We graced with the material advantages of life here and then he finds himself among those indicted Hereafter! ### Bijan Moeinian Is the person to whom I have promised (and there is no doubt that God delivers) good rewards in Hereafter equal to the one who has been given everything in this world but will be presented on the Day of Resurrection for punishment? ### Al-Hilali & Khan Is he whom We have promised an excellent promise (Paradise) - which he will find true - like him whom We have made to enjoy the luxuries of the life of (this) world, then on the Day of Resurrection, he will be among those brought up (to be punished in the Hell-fire)? ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Are (these two) alike?- one to whom We have made a goodly promise, and who is going to reach its (fulfilment), and one to whom We have given the good things of this life, but who, on the Day of Judgment, is to be among those brought up (for punishment)? ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Can those to whom We have made a fine promise—which they will see fulfilled—be like those who We have allowed to enjoy the pleasures of this worldly life, but on the Day of Judgment will be brought ˹for punishment˺? ### Taqi Usmani Is then the one, to whom We have made a good promise which he is going to meet, like the one whom We have given the benefit of enjoying the worldly life, then on the Day of Judgment he will be among those arraigned? ### Abdul Haleem Can the person who will see the fulfilment of the good promise We gave him be compared to someone We have given some enjoyments for this worldly life but who, on the Day of Resurrection, will be summoned? ### Arthur John Arberry Will you not understand? What, is he to whom We have promised a fair promise, and he receives it, like him to whom We have given the enjoyment of the present life, then he on the Resurrection Day shall be of those that are arraigned? ### E.
