_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

اِقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

Iqtarabati assaAAatu wanshaqqaalqamar

“Drawn nigh has the Hour, and the moon is split asunder!”

## Verse 2

وَاِنْ يَرَوْا اٰيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ

Wa-in yaraw ayatan yuAAridoowayaqooloo sihrun mustamirr

But if they see a proof, they will turn away and say: “Enduring sorcery.”

## Verse 3

وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُٓوا اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ وَكُلُّ اَمْرٍ مُسْتَقِرٌّ

Wakaththaboo wattabaAAoo ahwaahumwakullu amrin mustaqirr

And they denied, and followed their vain desires; but every matter is settled.

## Verse 4

وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَهُمْ مِنَ الْاَنْـبَٓاءِ مَا ف۪يهِ مُزْدَجَرٌۙ

Walaqad jaahum mina al-anba-i mafeehi muzdajar

And there has come to them of reports that wherein is deterrence:

## Verse 5

حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُۙ

Hikmatun balighatun famatughnee annuthur

Far-reaching wisdom; but the warnings avail not.

## Verse 6

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْۢ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ اِلٰى شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍۙ

Fatawalla AAanhum yawma yadAAu addaAAiila shay-in nukur

So turn thou from them. The day the Caller calls to a thing beyond experience: —

## Verse 7

خُشَّعاً اَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْاَجْدَاثِ كَاَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌۙ

KhushshaAAan absaruhum yakhrujoonamina al-ajdathi kaannahum jaradun muntashir

Their eyes humbled, they will come forth from the graves like locusts spreading,

## Verse 8

مُهْطِع۪ينَ اِلَى الدَّاعِۜ يَقُولُ الْـكَافِرُونَ هٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ

MuhtiAAeena ila addaAAiyaqoolu alkafiroona hatha yawmun AAasir

Straining towards the Caller; the false claimers of guidance will say: “This is a difficult day.”

## Verse 9

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَـكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinfakaththaboo AAabdana waqaloo majnoonun wazdujir

The people of Noah denied before them; they denied Our servant, and said: “One possessed”; and he was repelled.

## Verse 10

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُٓ  اَنّ۪ي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ

FadaAAa rabbahu annee maghloobun fantasir

So he called to his Lord: “I am defeated, so help Thou.”

## Verse 11

فَفَتَحْنَٓا اَبْوَابَ السَّمَٓاءِ بِمَٓاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍۘ

Fafatahna abwaba assama-ibima-in munhamir

Then opened We the gates of heaven with water pouring,

## Verse 12

وَفَجَّرْنَا الْاَرْضَ عُيُوناً فَالْتَقَى الْمَٓاءُ عَلٰٓى اَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَۚ

Wafajjarna al-arda AAuyoonanfaltaqa almao AAala amrin qad qudir

And caused the earth to gush forth with springs; and the waters met for a predetermined purpose.

## Verse 13

وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلٰى ذَاتِ اَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍۙ

Wahamalnahu AAala thatialwahin wadusur

And We bore him upon that of planks and nails,

## Verse 14

تَجْر۪ي بِاَعْيُنِنَاۚ جَزَٓاءً لِمَنْ كَانَ كُفِرَ

Tajree bi-aAAyunina jazaanliman kana kufir

Sailing before Our eyes as reward for one denied.

## Verse 15

وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَاهَٓا اٰيَةً فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

Walaqad taraknaha ayatanfahal min muddakir

And We left it as a proof; so is there any who will remember?

## Verse 16

فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthur

Then how were My punishment and My warnings?

## Verse 17

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

And We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance; so is there any who will remember?

## Verse 18

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

Kaththabat AAadun fakayfa kanaAAathabee wanuthur

ʿĀd denied. Then how were My punishment and My warnings?

## Verse 19

اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ ر۪يحاً صَرْصَراً ف۪ي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّۙ

Inna arsalna AAalayhim reehansarsaran fee yawmi nahsin mustamirr

We sent against them a howling wind in a day of enduring calamity,

## Verse 20

تَنْزِ عُ النَّاسَۙ كَاَنَّهُمْ اَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُنْقَعِرٍ

TanziAAu annasa kaannahumaAAjazu nakhlin munqaAAir

Removing men as if they were stumps of uprooted date-palms.

## Verse 21

فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthur

Then how were My punishment and My warnings?

## Verse 22

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ۟

Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

And We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance; so is there any who will remember?

## Verse 23

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ

Kaththabat thamoodu binnuthur

Thamūd denied the warnings.

## Verse 24

فَقَالُٓوا اَبَشَراً مِنَّا وَاحِداً نَتَّبِعُهُٓۙ  اِنَّٓا اِذاً لَف۪ي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ

Faqaloo abasharan minna wahidannattabiAAuhu inna ithan lafee dalalinwasuAAur

And they said: “Is it a single mortal among us we are to follow? Then should we be in error and insanity.

## Verse 25

ءَاُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ اَشِرٌ

Aolqiya aththikru AAalayhimin baynina bal huwa kaththabun ashir

“Has the remembrance been cast upon him from among us? The truth is, he is an insolent liar.”

## Verse 26

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَداً مَنِ الْـكَذَّابُ الْاَشِرُ

SayaAAlamoona ghadan mani alkaththabual-ashir

“They will come to know on the morrow who is the insolent liar!

## Verse 27

اِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْۘ

Inna mursiloo annaqatifitnatan lahum fartaqibhum wastabir

“We are sending the she-camel as a means of denial for them; so watch thou them and be thou steadfast.

## Verse 28

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ اَنَّ الْمَٓاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْۚ  كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُحْتَضَرٌ

Wanabbi/hum anna almaa qismatunbaynahum kullu shirbin muhtadar

“And inform thou them that the water is to be divided between them — each drink attended.”

## Verse 29

فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطٰى فَعَقَرَ

Fanadaw sahibahum fataAAatafaAAaqar

Then they called their companion, and he betook himself and did hamstring.

## Verse 30

فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthur

Then how were My punishment and My warnings?

## Verse 31

اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَـكَانُوا كَـهَش۪يمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ

Inna arsalna AAalayhim sayhatanwahidatan fakanoo kahasheemi almuhtathir

We sent upon them one Blast, and they were like the dry stalks of the fence-maker.

## Verse 32

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

And We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance; so is there any who will remember?

## Verse 33

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ

Kaththabat qawmu lootin binnuthur

The people of Lot denied the warnings.

## Verse 34

اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِباً اِلَّٓا اٰلَ لُوطٍۜ  نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍۙ

Inna arsalna AAalayhim hasibanilla ala lootin najjaynahum bisahar

We sent upon them a storm of stones save the family of Lot — We delivered them at dawn

## Verse 35

نِعْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَاۜ   كَذٰلِكَ نَجْز۪ي مَنْ شَكَرَ

NiAAmatan min AAindina kathalikanajzee man shakar

As favour from Us; thus do We reward him who is grateful.

## Verse 36

وَلَقَدْ اَنْذَرَهُمْ بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ

Walaqad antharahum batshatanafatamaraw binnuthur

And he had warned them of Our seizing, but they disputed the warnings.

## Verse 37

وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَنْ ضَيْفِه۪ فَطَمَسْنَٓا اَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

Walaqad rawadoohu AAan dayfihifatamasna aAAyunahum fathooqoo AAathabeewanuthur

And they demanded of him his guests, so We put out their eyes: “Then taste My punishment and My warnings!”

## Verse 38

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُمْ بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُسْتَقِرٌّۚ

Walaqad sabbahahum bukratanAAathabun mustaqirr

And in the early morning there came upon them an abiding punishment:

## Verse 39

فَذُوقُوا عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

Fathooqoo AAathabee wanuthur

“Then taste My punishment and My warnings!”

## Verse 40

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ۟

Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

And We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance; so is there any who will remember?

## Verse 41

وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَ اٰلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُۚ

Walaqad jaa ala firAAawna annuthur

And the warnings came to the house of Pharaoh.

## Verse 42

كَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَاَخَذْنَاهُمْ اَخْذَ عَز۪يزٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

Kaththaboo bi-ayatinakulliha faakhathnahum akhthaAAazeezin muqtadir

They denied Our proofs, all of them, then We seized them with the seizing of One exalted in might and omnipotent.

## Verse 43

اَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ اُو۬لٰٓئِكُمْ اَمْ لَـكُمْ بَرَٓاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِۚ

Akuffarukum khayrun min ola-ikumam lakum baraatun fee azzubur

Are your atheists better than those? If you have immunity in the writings:

## Verse 44

اَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَم۪يعٌ مُنْتَصِرٌ

Am yaqooloona nahnu jameeAAun muntasir

Or if they say: “We are an assembly to be victorious:

## Verse 45

سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ

Sayuhzamu aljamAAu wayuwalloona addubur

“The host will be defeated, and turn the backs,” —

## Verse 46

بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ اَدْهٰى وَاَمَرُّ

Bali assaAAatu mawAAiduhum wassaAAatuadha waamar

The truth is, the Hour is their appointment; and the Hour is more calamitous and more bitter.

## Verse 47

اِنَّ الْمُجْرِم۪ينَ ف۪ي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍۢ

Inna almujrimeena fee dalalinwasuAAur

The lawbreakers are in error and insanity!

## Verse 48

يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلٰى وُجُوهِهِمْۜ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ

Yawma yushaboona fee annariAAala wujoohihim thooqoo massa saqar

The day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces: “Taste the touch of Saqar!”

اِنَّا  كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ

Inna kulla shay-in khalaqnahubiqadar

We created everything in measure

## Verse 50

وَمَٓا اَمْرُنَٓا اِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ  كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ

Wama amruna illa wahidatunkalamhin bilbasar

And Our command is but one — as the twinkling of an eye[...].

## Verse 51

وَلَقَدْ اَهْلَكْنَٓا اَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

Walaqad ahlakna ashyaAAakumfahal min muddakir

And We have destroyed your sects before, so is there any who will remember?

## Verse 52

وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِي الزُّبُرِ

Wakullu shay-in faAAaloohu fee azzubur

And everything they did is in the writings.

## Verse 53

وَكُلُّ صَغ۪يرٍ وَكَب۪يرٍ مُسْتَطَرٌ

Wakullu sagheerin wakabeerin mustatar

And everything, small and great, is inscribed.

## Verse 54

اِنَّ الْمُتَّق۪ينَ ف۪ي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍۙ

Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanahar

Those of prudent fear will be among gardens and a river,

## Verse 55

ف۪ي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَ مَل۪يكٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

Fee maqAAadi sidqin AAinda maleekinmuqtadir

In a seat of honour, in the presence of an Omnipotent Sovereign.
