Surah Al-Munafiqun (The Hypocrites) — سورة المنافقون - **Verse:** 8 / 11 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 554 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-munafiqun/verse-8 ## Arabic يَقُولُونَ لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَٓا اِلَى الْمَد۪ينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْاَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْاَذَلَّۜ وَلِلّٰهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِه۪ وَلِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ وَلٰكِنَّ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ۟ ## Transcription Yaqooloona la-in rajaAAna ilaalmadeenati layukhrijanna al-aAAazzu minha al-athallawalillahi alAAizzatu walirasoolihi walilmu/mineena walakinnaalmunafiqeena la yaAAlamoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They say, ‘If we return to Madina, the mightier will drive out the inferior. ’ But all might belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and the muminun. But the hypocrites do not know this. ### Progressive Muslims They Say: "When we go back to the city, the noble therein will evict the lowly. " But all nobility belongs to God and His messenger, and the believers. However, the hypocrites do not know. ### Shabbir Ahmed And they say (upon returning from Banu Mustaliq in 5 A. H.), "Indeed, when we return to ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation They say: “If we return to the city, the more honoured will drive therefrom the meaner.” But to God belong power and glory, and to His messenger, and to the believers; but the waverers know not. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation They say: "When we go back to the city, the noble therein will evict the lowly." However, the hypocrites do not know. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira They say: "If we now go back to Madina, the stronger will turn the weaker out. " But power belongs to God, His Apostle and the faithful, though the hypocrites do not know. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) They say, "If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel therefrom the more humble. " And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know. ### Muhammad Asad [And] they say, "Indeed, when we return to the City [we,] the ones most worthy of honour will surely drive out therefrom those most contemptible ones!" However, all honour belongs to God, and [thus] to His Apostle and those who believe [in God]: but of this the hypocrites are not aware. ### Marmaduke Pickthall They say: Surely, if we return to Al-Madinah the mightier will soon drive out the weaker; when might belongeth to Allah and to His messenger and to the believers; but the hypocrites know not. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They say: "When we return to Madinah, the honourable ones will drive out from it those that are abject."[1] In truth, all honour belongs to Allah, and to His Messenger, and to the believers.[2] But the hypocrites do not know. _Footnotes_ - [1] Zaid bin Arqam says: When I reported these words of Abdullah bin Ubayy to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and Abdullah bin Ubayy came and disowned them on oath, the elderly people of the Ansar, and even my own uncle, reproved me for this; so much so that I felt that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had also mistaken me for a liar and Abdullah bin Ubayy for a truthful person. This caused me great anguish and grief. Then, when these verses were revealed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) called me, and taking hold of my ear, said: The boy’s ear was truthful Allah has himself testified to what it had heard. (Ibn Jarir. In Tirmidhi also there is a tradition on the same subject). - [2] That is, all honor belongs to Allah in virtue of His essence, to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in virtue of his prophethood, and to the believers in virtue of their faith. As for the disbelievers, the wicked people and the hypocrites, they have no share whatsoever in the real true honor. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab They say: "If we should return to Madina, the one with nobility in his nature and nobility is native to him, shall displace and oust the base who is nobody". ### Bijan Moeinian The (among them Ibn Ubayy) say : "As soon as we return back to Medina, the “honorable" ones should evict the “weak” ones from the city. They do not realize that all honor belongs to God, his messenger and the believers. ### Al-Hilali & Khan They (hyprocrites) say: "If we return to Al-Madinah, indeed the more honourable (‘Abdullâh bin Ubai bin Salûl, the chief of hyprocrites at Al-Madinah) will expel therefrom the meaner (i.e. Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم)." But honour, power and glory belong to Allâh, and to His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali They say, "If we return to Medina, surely the more honourable (element) will expel therefrom the meaner." But honour belongs to Allah and His Messenger, and to the Believers; but the Hypocrites know not. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran They say, "If we return to Medina, the honourable will definitely expel the inferior." But all honour and power belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, yet the hypocrites do not know. ### Taqi Usmani They say, "If we return to Madīnah, the more honorable ones will drive out the meaner ones from there." And to Allah belongs the honour, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know. ### Abdul Haleem They say, ‘Once we return to Medina the powerful will drive out the weak,’ but power belongs to God, to His Messenger, and to the believers, though the hypocrites do not know this. ### Arthur John Arberry They say, 'If we return to the City, the mightier ones of it will expel the more abased'; yet glory belongs unto God, and unto His Messenger and the believers, but the hypocrites do not know it. ### E. Henry Palmer They say, 'If we return to el Medinah, the mightier will surely drive out the meaner therefrom;' but to God belongs the might, and to His Apostle and to the believers; but the hypocrites do not know! ### Hamid S. Aziz They say, "If we return to Medina, the mighty will surely drive out the weaker there from; but Might belongs to Allah, and to His Messenger and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not. ### Mahmoud Ghali They say, "Indeed in case we return to Al-Madînah, indeed the mightier ones will definitely drive the humbler ones out of it. " And might belongs to Allah, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know. ### George Sale They say, verily, if we return to Medina, the worthier shall expel thence the meaner. Whereas superior worth belongeth unto God, and his apostle, and the true believers: But the hypocrites know it not. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed They say: "If we return to Medinah, surely, the more honorable (element) will expel from there the weaker. " But honor belongs to Allah and to His Messenger, and to the believers; But the hypocrites do not know. ### Amatul Rahman Omar They say, `If we return to Madînah, the most honourable and mightier will drive out the most mean from there. ' But (true) power and honour belongs to Allâh and His Messenger and to the believers. Oysa izzet Allah'ındır, Rasulünündür ve iman edenlerindir. Ne var ki ikiyüzlüler bilemezler! ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı Derler ki, "Andolsun, Medine'ye bir dönecek olursak, gücü ve onuru çok olan, düşkün ve zayıf olanı elbette oradan sürüp çıkaracaktır." Oysa izzet (güç, onur ve üstünlük) Allah'ın, O'nun Resulü'nün ve mü'minlerindir. Ancak münafıklar bilmiyorlar. ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali Onlar, "Andolsun, eğer Medine'ye dönersek, üstün olan, zayıf olanı oradan mutlaka çıkaracaktır" diyorlardı. Halbuki, asıl üstünlük ancak Allah, Peygamber'i ve müminlerindir. Fakat münafıklar bunu bilmezler. ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Onlar, "Andolsun, eğer Medine'ye dönersek, üstün olan, zayıf olanı oradan mutlaka çıkaracaktır" diyorlardı. Halbuki asıl üstünlük, ancak Allah'ın, Peygamberinin ve mü'minlerindir. Fakat münafıklar (bunu) bilmezler. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Diyorlar ki: eğer Medineye dönersek herhalde eazz olan oradan ezell olanı çıkaracaktır, halbuki izzet, Allahın ve Resulünün ve mü'minlerindir ve lakin Münafıklar bilmezler. ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Diyorlar ki: "Eğer Medine'ye dönersek, herhalde en güçlü, en şerefli olan en zayıf olan alçağı oradan çıkaracaktır." Oysa güç, haysiyet Allah'ın, Resulünün ve müminlerindir, fakat münafıklar bilmezler. ### Gültekin Onan Derler ki: "Andolsun, Medine'ye bir dönecek olursak, gücü ve onuru çok olan, düşkün ve zayıf olanı elbette oradan sürüp çıkaracaktır. Oysa izzet (güç, onur ve üstünlük) Tanrı'nın, O'nun Resulü'nün ve inançlılarındır. Ancak münafıklar bilmiyorlar. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Onlar "Eğer Medineye dönersek, andolsun, en şerefli ve kuvvetli olan (ımız) oradan en hakıyr (ve zaif) olanı muhakkak çıkaracakdır" diyorlardı. Halbuki şeref, kuvvet ve gaalibiyyet Allahındır, peyğamberinindir, müminlerindir. Fakat münafıklar (bunu) bilmezler. ### İbni Kesir Onlar; şayet Medine'ye dönersen, andolsun ki; şerefli ve kuvvetli olanlar, zayıf olanları oradan muhakkak çıkaracaktır, diyorlardı. Oysa izzet Allah' ın, Peygamberinin ve mü'minlerindir. Fakat münafıklar, bunu bilmezler. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı (Ve) onlar: "Kente döndüğümüzde şan şeref sahibi olan (biz)ler, zavallı biçareleri oradan sürüp atacaktır!" derler. Ama asıl şeref, Allah'a, O'nun Elçisi'ne ve inananlara aittir ama ikiyüzlüler bunun farkında değiller. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı -Medine'ye dönersek, güçlü olan, zayıf olanı oradan çıkaracaktır, diyorlar. Oysa güç Allah'a, Resulü'ne ve müminlere aittir. Fakat münafıklar bilmezler. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Diyorlar ki: "Andolsun, eğer Medine'ye dönersek üstün olan, alçak olanı oradan mutlaka çıkaracaktır." Üstünlük, ancak Allah'a, Elçisine ve mü'minlere mahsustur. Fakat münafıklar bilmezler. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Şöyle derler: "Eğer Medine'ye dönersek, yemin olsun ki, itibarlı ve baskın olan, ezik ve zayıf olanı oradan çıkaracaktır!" Güç ve itibar Allah'a, onun resulüne ve iman sahiplerine özgüdür. Ama münafıklar bunu bilmezler. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an Onlar "Şehre döndüğümüzde şerefli olan (biz)ler şerefsiz olanları oradan elbet sürüp çıkaracaktır" diyorlar. Ama şeref Allah'a, O'nun Rasulüne ve mü'minlere aittir: gel gör ki, ikiyüzlüler (bunu bile) bilmiyorlar. ### Erhan Aktaş (Eski Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an "Eğer Medine'ye dönecek olursak, mutlaka daha güçlü olan, güçsüz olanı, oradan sürüp çıkarır." diyorlar. Oysa güç, üstünlük ve onur; Allah'ın, O'nun Rasul'ünün ve inananlarındır. Fakat münafıklar bu gerçeği bilmiyorlar. ### Ali Rıza Safa — Kur'an-ı Kerim Gerçek Onlar, "Kente döndüğümüzde, güçlü olanlar, güçsüz olanları oradan çıkaracak!" diyenlerdir.[516] Oysa onur ve güç, Allah'ın, O'nun elçisinin ve inananlarındır; fakat ikiyüzlüler bilmezler. _Footnotes_ - [516] Kent anlamına gelen Medine sözcüğü, kimi çevirilerde Medine kenti olarak yazılmıştır.
