Surah Al-Mumtahanah (She that is to be examined) — سورة الممتحنة - **Verse:** 13 / 13 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 550 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-mumtahanah/verse-13 ## Arabic يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا لَا تَتَوَلَّوْا قَوْماً غَضِبَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ يَـئِسُوا مِنَ الْاٰخِرَةِ كَمَا يَـئِسَ الْكُفَّارُ مِنْ اَصْحَابِ الْقُبُورِ ## Transcription Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tatawallaw qawman ghadiba AllahuAAalayhim qad ya-isoo mina al-akhirati kama ya-isaalkuffaru min as-habi alquboor ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You who have iman! do not make friends of people with whom Allah is angry, who have despaired of the Next World as the kafirun have despaired of the inhabitants of the graves. ### Progressive Muslims O you who believe, do not ally a people with whom God is angry; for they have given-up regarding the Hereafter, just like the rejecters have given-up on the people who are already in the graves. ### Shabbir Ahmed O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Do not befriend a people whom Allah has condemned. They have despaired of [reward in] the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have despaired of [meeting] the inhabitants of the graves. ### Muhammad Asad O YOU who have attained to faith! Be not friends with people whom God has condemned! They [who would befriend them] are indeed bereft of all hope of a life to come - just as those deniers of the truth are bereft of all hope of [ever again seeing] those who are [now] in their graves. ### Marmaduke Pickthall O ye who believe! Be not friendly with a folk with whom Allah is wroth, (a folk) who have despaired of the Hereafter as the disbelievers despair of those who are in the graves. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Believers, do not make friends with those against whom Allah is wrathful and who are despaired of the Hereafter, as despaired as are the unbelievers lying in their graves.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] The words in the original can have two meanings: ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab O you whose hearts - reflect - the image of religious and spiritual virtues: do not make friendly intimacy with people who have come within the measure of Allah's wrath. They have given up hope of sharing the beatitude of the Hereafter, just as they have lost hope of their dead returning back from their graves, and just as their dead had already despaired of forgiveness. ### Bijan Moeinian God hereby orders the believers not to take as friend those with whom God is angry as they are hopelessly stuck in their disbelief. Their case is as hopeless as the case of those disbelievers who are already lying in their graves. ### Al-Hilali & Khan O you who believe! Take not as friends the people who incurred the Wrath of Allâh (i.e. the Jews). Surely, they have despaired of (receiving any good in) the Hereafter, just as the disbelievers have despaired of those (buried) in graves (that they will not be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali O ye who believe! Turn not (for friendship) to people on whom is the Wrath of Allah, of the Hereafter they are already in despair, just as the Unbelievers are in despair about those (buried) in graves. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran O believers! Do not ally yourselves with a people Allah is displeased with. They already have no hope for the Hereafter, just like the disbelievers lying in ˹their˺ graves. ### Taqi Usmani O you who believe, do not have friendship with a people with whom Allah is angry. They have despaired from the Hereafter as the infidels have despaired from those (buried) in the graves. ### Abdul Haleem You who believe, do not take as allies those with whom God is angry: they despair of the life to come as the disbelievers despair of those buried in their graves. ### Arthur John Arberry O believers, take not for friends a people against whom God is wrathful, and who have despaired of the world to come, even as the unbelievers have despaired of the inhabitants of the tombs. ### E. About the Hereafter they are already in pain and suffering, just as the unbelievers are in pain and suffering, about those (buried) in graves. ### Amatul Rahman Omar O you who believe! do not make friends with a people who have incurred the displeasure of Allâh. They are indeed despaired of the Hereafter (since they have no faith in it), just as the disbelievers are despaired of those who are in the graves (as they do not believe that the dead will ever come to life again). ### Ali Quli Qarai O you who have faith! Do not befriend a people at whom Allah is wrathful: they have despaired of the Hereafter, just as the faithless have despaired of the occupants of the graves. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Ey iman edenler!
