Surah Al-Mu'minun (The Believers) — سورة المؤمنون - **Verse:** 7 / 118 · **Juz:** 18 · **Mushaf page:** 341 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-muminun/verse-7 ## Arabic فَمَنِ ابْتَغٰى وَرَٓاءَ ذٰلِكَ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَۚ ## Transcription Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley but those who desire anything more than that are people who have gone beyond the limits – ### Progressive Muslims But whosoever seeks anything beyond this, then these are the transgressors. ### Shabbir Ahmed Those who cross these limits, are transgressors. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation — But whoso seeks beyond that: it is they who are the transgressors — ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation But whoever seeks anything beyond this, then these are the transgressors. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Those who transgress these limits are the transgressors. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira But those who covet more than this will be transgressors; ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors - ### Muhammad Asad whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; ### Marmaduke Pickthall But whoso craveth beyond that, such are transgressors - ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary As for those who seek beyond that, they are transgressors"[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This is a parenthesis which is meant to remove the common misunderstanding that sex desire is an evil thing in itself and satisfying it even in lawful ways is not desirable, particularly for the righteous and godly people. This misunderstanding would have been strengthened, had it been only said that the believers guard their private parts scrupulously, because it would have implied that they live unmarried lives, away from the world, like monks and hermits. Therefore a parenthesis has been added to say that there is nothing wrong in satisfying the sex desire in lawful ways. What is evil is that one should transgress the prescribed limits for satisfying the sex desire. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And those who do not confine their sexual activity within these limitations will have violated and disregarded the set limits instituted by Allah. ### Bijan Moeinian Indeed those who do not observe divine laws governing sexual behaviors are the sinners. ### Al-Hilali & Khan But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors; ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;- ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran but whoever seeks beyond that are the transgressors; ### Taqi Usmani However, those who seek (sexual pleasure) beyond that are the transgressors ### Abdul Haleem but anyone who seeks more than this is exceeding the limits–– ### Arthur John Arberry (but whosoever seeks after more than that, those are the transgressors) ### E.
