Surah Al-Mu'minun (The Believers) — سورة المؤمنون - **Verse:** 60 / 118 · **Juz:** 18 · **Mushaf page:** 345 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-muminun/verse-60 ## Arabic وَالَّذ۪ينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَٓا اٰتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ اَنَّهُمْ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَۙ ## Transcription Wallatheena yu/toona maataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley those who give what they have given, their hearts fearful of their return to their Lord, ### Progressive Muslims And they give of what they were given, and their hearts are full of reverence that they will return to their Lord. ### Shabbir Ahmed And those who give (in the Cause of Allah of their wealth and person) whatever they can, and are still afraid (that they have not done enough and) because they have to return to their Lord, ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And those who give what they give with their hearts in dread that they are returning to their Lord: ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Andthey give of what they were given, and their hearts are full of reverence that they will return to their Lord. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament As they give their charities, their hearts are fully reverent. For they recognize that they will be summoned before their Lord, ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Who give whatsoever they give (in His way), and their hearts tremble with fear that they have to go back to their Lord, ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord - ### Muhammad Asad and who give whatever they [have to] give with their hearts trembling at the thought that unto their Sustainer they must return: ### Marmaduke Pickthall And those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord, ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord;[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This verse (60) may be elaborated like this: They serve their Lord and try their best to obey Him and do righteous deeds, but all along they remain humble in their hearts and are not puffed up with the pride of their piety. Nay, in spite of all their good deeds, their hearts are always filled with awe that they shall have to render an account to their Lord, and they are not sure whether they will come out successful in the judgment of their Lord or not. A concrete interpretation of this verse is afforded by Umar. Although he served his Allah in a way that was exemplary, yet he was so afraid of accountability to Him that he is reported to have said before death: I shall consider it a favor, if I am neither rewarded nor punished in the Hereafter. Hasan Basri has expressed the same thing in a beautiful manner: A believer obeys Allah and is yet fearful of Him, and a hypocrite disobeys Allah and is yet fearless of Him. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab d) Who give in benevolence, no matter what, lifting to Allah their inward sight and laying to their hearts their fate in Day of Judgement, an event they realize however unseen and approximate however remote, ### Bijan Moeinian those who devote a part of their God given income to charity and they are looking forward to return to their Lord; ### Al-Hilali & Khan And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities have been accepted or not),[1] because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran and who do whatever ˹good˺ they do with their hearts fearful, ˹knowing˺ that they will return to their Lord[1]— ### Taqi Usmani And those who give whatever they give, with their hearts full of fear that to their Lord they are to return ### Abdul Haleem who always give with hearts that tremble at the thought that they must return to Him, ### Arthur John Arberry and those who give what they give, their hearts quaking that they are returning to their Lord -- ### E.
