No indeed, but they have no awareness! ### Progressive Muslims We are quick to give them the good things. But they do not perceive. ### Shabbir Ahmed We are being swift to them with good things? Nay, but they perceive not. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation We hasten for them good things? The truth is, they perceive not. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation We are quick to give them the good things. But they do not perceive. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament we must be showering them with blessings? Indeed, they have no idea. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira We are hastening to reward them for good deeds? No. They do not comprehend. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive. ### Muhammad Asad We [but want to] make them vie with one another in doing [what they consider] good works? Nay, but they do not perceive [their error]! ### Marmaduke Pickthall We hasten unto them with good things? Nay, but they perceive not. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary We are busy lavishing on them all kinds of good? Nay, they do not perceive the reality of the matter.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This question has been posed as a proof of the main theme of the Surah. It is meant to remove their misconception of success, welfare and prosperity, which the disbelievers had formed to delude themselves. According to them, the one, who enjoyed the good things of life and wielded power and influence in the society, had attained success. On the other hand, the he who was deprived of these things was a failure. This misconception had involved them in another serious misunderstanding. They thought that the one who had attained success was in the right, and the beloved of Allah. Otherwise, how could he have attained all the successes? On the contrary, the one who was apparently deprived of these things was surely wrong in his creed and erroneous in his deeds, and was under the wrath of God (or gods). As this misconception is one of the greatest deviations of the materialists, the Quran has stated it and refuted it in different ways at different places and made the reality plain. In order to remove the above mentioned misconceptions one should keep in view the following. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We are pleased with their perverted adoration and by consequence hasten on to make all Our grace deservedly abound in them! To the contrary We give them enough rope to allow them free scope of action to commit themselves, but they do not have enough insight to look beneath the surface nor do they apprehend such matters with their senses. ### Bijan Moeinian that they will also be showered with goodies in the Hereafter? Not at all; they do not get it. ### Al-Hilali & Khan We hasten unto them with good things. Nay, [it is a Fitnah (trial) in this worldly life so that they will have no share of good things in the Hereafter] but they perceive not. [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran that We hasten to ˹honour˺ them ˹with˺ all kinds of good? No! They are not aware. ### Taqi Usmani We are accelerating the (real) good things to them? The fact, however, is that they do not understand (the reality). ### Abdul Haleem We race to give them good things? They really have no idea! ### Arthur John Arberry We vie in good works for them?
