_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

قَدْ اَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَۙ

Qad aflaha almu/minoon

Successful are the believers:

## Verse 2

اَلَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ ف۪ي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَۙ

Allatheena hum fee salatihimkhashiAAoon

Those who in their duty are humble,

## Verse 3

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَۙ

Wallatheena hum AAani allaghwimuAAridoon

And those who from vain speech turn away,

## Verse 4

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكٰوةِ فَاعِلُونَۙ

Wallatheena hum lizzakatifaAAiloon

And those who act upon the purity.

## Verse 5

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَۙ

Wallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon

And those who preserve their chastity

## Verse 6

اِلَّا عَلٰٓى اَزْوَاجِهِمْ اَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ اَيْمَانُهُمْ فَاِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُوم۪ينَۚ

Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen

Save with their wives or what their right hands possess, then are they not blameworthy;

## Verse 7

فَمَنِ ابْتَغٰى وَرَٓاءَ ذٰلِكَ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَۚ

Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon

— But whoso seeks beyond that: it is they who are the transgressors —

## Verse 8

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ لِاَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَۙ

Wallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon

And those who attend to their trusts and their covenant,

## Verse 9

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ عَلٰى صَلَوَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَۢ

Wallatheena hum AAala salawatihimyuhafithoon

And those who preserve their duties:

## Verse 10

اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَۙ

Ola-ika humu alwarithoon

It is they who are the heirs,

## Verse 11

اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَرِثُونَ الْفِرْدَوْسَۜ هُمْ ف۪يهَا خَالِدُونَ

Allatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa humfeeha khalidoon

Those who inherit Paradise; therein will they abide eternally.

## Verse 12

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ سُلَالَةٍ مِنْ ط۪ينٍۚ

Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsulalatin min teen

And We created man from an extract of clay;

## Verse 13

ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاهُ نُطْفَةً ف۪ي قَرَارٍ مَك۪ينٍۖ

Thumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan feeqararin makeen

Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a secure fixed lodging;

## Verse 14

ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَةَ عِظَاماً فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظَامَ لَحْماًۗ ثُمَّ اَنْشَأْنَاهُ خَلْقاً اٰخَرَۜ فَتَبَارَكَ اللّٰهُ اَحْسَنُ الْخَالِق۪ينَۜ

Thumma khalaqna annutfataAAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatanfakhalaqna almudghata AAithamanfakasawna alAAithama lahmanthumma ansha/nahu khalqan akhara fatabarakaAllahu ahsanu alkhaliqeen

Then We created the sperm-drop a clinging thing, and created the clinging thing a fleshy lump, and created the fleshy lump bones, and clothed the bones with flesh; then We produced it as another creation — and blessed be God, the best of creators!

## Verse 15

ثُمَّ اِنَّكُمْ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَۜ

Thumma innakum baAAda thalikalamayyitoon

Then after that will you die;

## Verse 16

ثُمَّ اِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ

Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamatitubAAathoon

Then on the Day of Resurrection will you be raised.

## Verse 17

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَٓائِقَۗ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ الْخَلْقِ غَافِل۪ينَ

Walaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa tara-iqawama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileen

And We have created above you seven paths, and We are not heedless of the creation.

## Verse 18

وَاَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مَٓاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَاَسْكَنَّاهُ فِي الْاَرْضِۗ وَاِنَّا عَلٰى ذَهَابٍ بِه۪ لَقَادِرُونَۚ

Waanzalna mina assama-imaan biqadarin faaskannahu fee al-ardiwa-inna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroon

And We sent down from the sky water in measure, and gave it lodging in the earth — and We are able to take it away —

## Verse 19

فَاَنْشَأْنَا لَكُمْ بِه۪ جَنَّاتٍ مِنْ نَخ۪يلٍ وَاَعْنَابٍۢ لَكُمْ ف۪يهَا فَوَاكِهُ۬ كَث۪يرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَۙ

Faansha/na lakum bihi jannatinmin nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihukatheeratun waminha ta/kuloon

And We produced for you therewith gardens of date-palms and grapevines — for you therein is much fruit, and thereof you eat —

## Verse 20

وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ طُورِ سَيْنَٓاءَ تَنْبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِلْاٰكِل۪ينَ

Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaatanbutu bidduhni wasibghin lilakileen

And a tree that comes forth from Mount Saynā’ yielding oil and a seasoning for the eaters.

## Verse 21

وَاِنَّ لَكُمْ فِي الْاَنْعَامِ لَعِبْرَةًۜ نُسْق۪يكُمْ مِمَّا ف۪ي بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ ف۪يهَا مَنَافِعُ كَث۪يرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَۙ

Wa-inna lakum fee al-anAAamilaAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butoonihawalakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminhata/kuloon

And for you in the cattle is a lesson: We give you drink of what is in their bellies, and for you therein are many benefits; and of them you eat,

## Verse 22

وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى الْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ۟

WaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloon

And upon them, and upon the ships, are you carried.

## Verse 23

وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا نُوحاً اِلٰى قَوْمِه۪ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۜ  اَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Walaqad arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoon

And We sent Noah to his people, and he said: “O my people: serve God; you have no god but He. Will you then not be in prudent fear!”

## Verse 24

فَقَالَ الْمَلَؤُا الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِه۪ مَا هٰذَٓا اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْۙ يُر۪يدُ اَنْ يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْۜ وَلَوْ شَٓاءَ اللّٰهُ لَاَنْزَلَ مَلٰٓئِكَةًۚ مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهٰذَا ف۪ٓي اٰبَٓائِنَا الْاَوَّل۪ينَۚ

Faqala almalao allatheenakafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharunmithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaaAllahu laanzala mala-ikatan ma samiAAnabihatha fee aba-ina al-awwaleen

Then said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people: “This is only a mortal like you, desiring to take precedence over you. And had God willed, He would have sent down angels. We heard not of this among our fathers of old.

## Verse 25

اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا رَجُلٌ بِه۪ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا بِه۪ حَتّٰى ح۪ينٍ

In huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatunfatarabbasoo bihi hatta heen

“He is only a man possessed; so wait for him for a time.”

## Verse 26

قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْن۪ي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ

Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon

He said: “My Lord: help Thou me because they have denied me.”

## Verse 27

فَاَوْحَيْنَٓا اِلَيْهِ اَنِ اصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِاَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَاِذَا جَٓاءَ اَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُۙ فَاسْلُكْ ف۪يهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَاَهْلَكَ اِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْۚ وَلَا تُخَاطِبْن۪ي فِي الَّذ۪ينَ ظَلَمُواۚ اِنَّهُمْ مُغْرَقُونَ

Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAialfulka bi-aAAyunina wawahyina fa-ithajaa amruna wafara attannooru faslukfeeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illaman sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibneefee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoon

And We instructed him: “Make thou the ship under Our eyes and Our instruction; then when Our command comes and the oven boils over, load thou therein of each kind two, and thy household save him against whom the word has gone forth among them. And address thou Me not on behalf of those who do wrong; they will be drowned.

## Verse 28

فَاِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ اَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذ۪ي نَجّٰينَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِم۪ينَ

Fa-itha istawayta anta waman maAAakaAAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allatheenajjana mina alqawmi aththalimeen

“And when thou art seated — thou and whoso is with thee — upon the ship, say thou: ‘Praise belongs to God who has delivered us from the wrongdoing people.’”

## Verse 29

وَقُلْ رَبِّ اَنْزِلْن۪ي مُنْزَلاً مُبَارَكاً وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِل۪ينَ

Waqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakanwaanta khayru almunzileen

“And say thou: ‘My Lord: set Thou me down at a blessed landing-place; and Thou art the best of those who set down.’”

## Verse 30

اِنَّ ف۪ي ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَاتٍ وَاِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَل۪ينَ

Inna fee thalika laayatinwa-in kunna lamubtaleen

In that are proofs; and We are testing.

## Verse 31

ثُمَّ اَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْناً اٰخَر۪ينَۚ

Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihim qarnan akhareen

Then We produced, after them, another generation.

## Verse 32

فَاَرْسَلْنَا ف۪يهِمْ رَسُولاً مِنْهُمْ اَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۜ  اَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ۟

Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum anioAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhuafala tattaqoon

And We sent among them a messenger from among them: “Serve God; you have no god but He. Will you then not be in prudent fear!”

## Verse 33

وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِلِقَٓاءِ الْاٰخِرَةِ وَاَتْرَفْنَاهُمْ فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۙ مَا هٰذَٓا اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْۙ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ

Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheenakafaroo wakaththaboo biliqa-i al-akhiratiwaatrafnahum fee alhayati addunyama hatha illa basharun mithlukum ya/kulumimma ta/kuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboon

And said the eminent ones of his people, those who ignored warning and denied the meeting of the Hereafter and to whom We had given opulence in the life of this world: “This is only a mortal like you: he eats of that whereof you eat, and drinks of that you drink.

## Verse 34

وَلَئِنْ اَطَعْتُمْ بَشَراً مِثْلَكُمْ اِنَّكُمْ اِذاً لَخَاسِرُونَ

Wala-in ataAAtum basharan mithlakuminnakum ithan lakhasiroon

“And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, you will then be the losers.

## Verse 35

اَيَعِدُكُمْ اَنَّكُمْ اِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنْتُمْ تُرَاباً وَعِظَاماً اَنَّكُمْ مُخْرَجُونَۖ

AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittumwakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakummukhrajoon

“Does he promise you that when you are dead, and are dust and bones, you will be brought forth?

## Verse 36

هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَۖ

Hayhata hayhata limatooAAadoon

“Far-fetched! Far-fetched is what you are promised!

## Verse 37

اِنْ هِيَ اِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوث۪ينَۖ

In hiya illa hayatunaaddunya namootu wanahya wamanahnu bimabAAootheen

“There is only our life of this world: we die, and we live; and we will not be raised up.

## Verse 38

اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا رَجُلٌۨ افْـتَرٰى عَلَى اللّٰهِ كَذِباً وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُ بِمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

In huwa illa rajulun iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnulahu bimu/mineen

“He is only a man who invented a lie about God, and we will not believe him.”

## Verse 39

قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْن۪ي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ

Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon

He said: “My Lord: help Thou me because they have denied me.”

## Verse 40

قَالَ عَمَّا قَل۪يلٍ لَيُصْبِحُنَّ نَادِم۪ينَۚ

Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunnanadimeen

Said He: “In a little while will they become remorseful.”

## Verse 41

فَاَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُـثَٓاءًۚ فَبُعْداً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِم۪ينَ

Faakhathat-humu assayhatubilhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaanfabuAAdan lilqawmi aththalimeen

Then the Blast seized them with justice, and We made them as decaying herbage: — “Then away with the wrongdoing people!”

## Verse 42

ثُمَّ اَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُوناً اٰخَر۪ينَۜ

Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihimquroonan akhareen

Then We produced, after them, other generations.

## Verse 43

مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ اُمَّةٍ اَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَۜ

Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon

No community outstrips its term, nor will they defer.

## Verse 44

ثُمَّ اَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَاۜ  كُلَّمَا جَٓاءَ اُمَّةً رَسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ فَاَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ بَعْضاً وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ اَحَاد۪يثَۚ فَبُعْداً لِقَوْمٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Thumma arsalna rusulana tatrakulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohufaatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahumahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yu/minoon

Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time its messenger came to a community, they denied him; and We caused some of them to follow others, and made them legends: — “Then away with a people who do not believe!”

## Verse 45

ثُمَّ اَرْسَلْنَا مُوسٰى وَاَخَاهُ هٰرُونَ بِاٰيَاتِنَا وَسُلْطَانٍ مُب۪ينٍۙ

Thumma arsalna moosa waakhahuharoona bi-ayatina wasultaninmubeen

Then sent We Moses and his brother Aaron with Our proofs and a clear authority

## Verse 46

اِلٰى فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَا۬ئِه۪ فَاسْتَكْـبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْماً عَال۪ينَۚ

Ila firAAawna wamala-ihi fastakbaroowakanoo qawman AAaleen

To Pharaoh and his eminent ones; but they had waxed proud, and they were a self-exalting people.

## Verse 47

فَقَالُٓوا اَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَابِدُونَۚ

Faqaloo anu/minu libasharayni mithlinawaqawmuhuma lana AAabidoon

And they said: “Shall we believe two mortals like ourselves, and whose people serve us?”

## Verse 48

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا مِنَ الْمُهْلَك۪ينَ

Fakaththaboohuma fakanoomina almuhlakeen

Then they denied them, and were among those destroyed.

## Verse 49

وَلَقَدْ اٰتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

Walaqad atayna moosaalkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoon

And We gave Moses the Writ, that they might be guided.

## Verse 50

وَجَعَلْنَا ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَاُمَّهُٓ اٰيَةً وَاٰوَيْنَاهُمَٓا اِلٰى رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَع۪ينٍ۟

WajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatanwaawaynahuma ila rabwatin thatiqararin wamaAAeen

And We made the son of Mary and his mother a proof, and We gave them shelter upon high ground: a fixed lodging and a running spring.

## Verse 51

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوا مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحاًۜ اِنّ۪ي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَل۪يمٌۜ

Ya ayyuha arrusulukuloo mina attayyibati waAAmaloo salihaninnee bima taAAmaloona AAaleem

“O you Messengers: eat of the good things, and work righteousness; I know what you do.”

## Verse 52

وَاِنَّ هٰذِه۪ٓ  اُمَّتُكُمْ اُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَاَنَا۬ رَبُّكُمْ فَاتَّقُونِ

Wa-inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatanwaana rabbukum fattaqoon

And this, your community, is one community, and I am your Lord; so be in prudent fear of Me.

## Verse 53

فَـتَقَطَّـعُٓوا اَمْرَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُراًۜ  كُلُّ حِزْبٍ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ

FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahumzuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoon

But they divided their command among them into writings, each party exulting at what it has,

## Verse 54

فَذَرْهُمْ ف۪ي غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتّٰى ح۪ينٍ

Fatharhum fee ghamratihim hattaheen

So leave thou them in their flood of ignorance for a time.

## Verse 55

اَيَحْسَبُونَ اَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُمْ بِه۪ مِنْ مَالٍ وَبَن۪ينَۙ

Ayahsaboona annama numidduhumbihi min malin wabaneen

Think they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We supply them

## Verse 56

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِۜ بَلْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

We hasten for them good things? The truth is, they perceive not.

## Verse 57

اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَۙ

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ بِاٰيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَۙ

And those who believe in the proofs of their Lord,

## Verse 59

وَالَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَۙ

Wallatheena hum birabbihim layushrikoon

And those who ascribe not a partnership to their Lord,

## Verse 60

وَالَّذ۪ينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَٓا اٰتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ اَنَّهُمْ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَۙ

Wallatheena yu/toona maataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoon

And those who give what they give with their hearts in dread that they are returning to their Lord:

## Verse 61

اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَابِقُونَ

Ola-ika yusariAAoona feealkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoon

Those compete in good deeds, and they are forerunners therein.

## Verse 62

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْساً اِلَّا وُسْعَهَا وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَابٌ يَنْطِقُ بِالْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

Wala nukallifu nafsan illawusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bilhaqqiwahum la yuthlamoon

And We burden not any soul save to its capacity; and with Us is a writ which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.)

## Verse 63

بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ ف۪ي غَمْرَةٍ مِنْ هٰذَا وَلَهُمْ اَعْمَالٌ مِنْ دُونِ ذٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَامِلُونَ

Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hathawalahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum lahaAAamiloon

The truth is, their hearts are in a flood of ignorance about this. And they have works besides that which they are doing.

## Verse 64

حَتّٰٓى اِذَٓا اَخَذْنَا مُتْرَف۪يهِمْ بِالْعَذَابِ اِذَا هُمْ يَجْـَٔرُونَۜ

Hatta itha akhathnamutrafeehim bilAAathabi itha hum yaj-aroon

When We have seized their opulent ones with punishment, then will they cry out.

## Verse 65

لَا تَجْـَٔرُوا الْيَوْمَ اِنَّكُمْ مِنَّا لَا تُنْصَرُونَ

La taj-aroo alyawma innakum minnala tunsaroon

“Cry not out this day! You will not be helped by Us!

## Verse 66

قَدْ كَانَتْ اٰيَات۪ي تُتْلٰى عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ عَلٰٓى اَعْقَابِكُمْ تَنْكِصُونَۙ

Qad kanat ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoon

“My proofs were recited to you, and you turned back therefrom on your heels,

## Verse 67

مُسْتَكْبِر۪ينَ بِه۪ۗ سَامِراً تَهْجُرُونَ

Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroon

“Waxing proud thereat, talking to no purpose into the night.”

## Verse 68

اَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا الْقَوْلَ اَمْ جَٓاءَهُمْ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِ اٰبَٓاءَهُمُ الْاَوَّل۪ينَۘ

Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahumma lam ya/ti abaahumu al-awwaleen

Have they then not considered the word with care? If there has come to them what came not to their fathers of old,

اَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُ مُنْكِرُونَۘ

Am lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahumunkiroon

Or if they did not know their messenger, and so do not recognise him,

## Verse 70

اَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِه۪ جِنَّةٌۜ  بَلْ جَٓاءَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَاَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَارِهُونَ

Am yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahumbilhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoon

Or if they say: “He is possessed,” — the truth is, he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse to the truth.

## Verse 71

وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمٰوَاتُ وَالْاَرْضُ وَمَنْ ف۪يهِنَّۜ بَلْ اَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَۜ

Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahumlafasadati assamawatu wal-arduwaman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAanthikrihim muAAridoon

And had the truth followed their vain desires, the heavens and the earth and whoso is therein would have been corrupted; the truth is, We brought them their remembrance, and they from their remembrance are turning away.

## Verse 72

اَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ خَرْجاً فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌۗ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِق۪ينَ

Am tas-aluhum kharjan fakharajurabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru arraziqeen

If thou askest of them payment: then is the reward of thy Lord better; and He is the best of providers.

## Verse 73

وَاِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ اِلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَق۪يمٍ

Wa-innaka latadAAoohum ila siratinmustaqeem

And thou invitest them to a straight path;

وَاِنَّ  الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ عَنِ الصِّرَاطِ لَنَاكِبُونَ

Wa-inna allatheena layu/minoona bil-akhirati AAani assiratilanakiboon

And those who believe not in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.

## Verse 75

وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَاهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِمْ مِنْ ضُرٍّ لَلَجُّوا ف۪ي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

Walaw rahimnahum wakashafnama bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihimyaAAmahoon

And were We to have mercy on them, and to remove what is upon them of distress, they would persist in wandering blindly in their inordinacy.

## Verse 76

وَلَقَدْ اَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

Walaqad akhathnahum bilAAathabifama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoon

(And We seized them with the punishment[...], but they yielded not to their Lord, nor humbled themselves.

حَتّٰٓى اِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَاباً ذَا عَذَابٍ شَد۪يدٍ اِذَا هُمْ ف۪يهِ مُبْلِسُونَ۟

Hatta itha fatahnaAAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin ithahum feehi mublisoon

When We have opened against them a gate of severe punishment, then are they therein in despair.)

## Verse 78

وَهُوَ الَّـذ۪ٓي اَنْشَاَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْاَبْصَارَ وَالْاَفْـِٔدَةَۜ قَل۪يلاً مَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu assamAAawal-absara wal-af-idata qaleelan matashkuroon

And He it is that produced for you hearing and sight and hearts; little are you grateful.

## Verse 79

وَهُوَ الَّذ۪ي ذَرَاَكُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَاِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

Wahuwa allathee tharaakum feeal-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon

And He it is that created you in the earth; and to Him will you be gathered.

## Verse 80

وَهُوَ الَّذ۪ي يُحْـي۪ وَيُم۪يتُ وَلَهُ اخْتِلَافُ الَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِۜ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Wahuwa allathee yuhyeewayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli wannahariafala taAAqiloon

And He it is that gives life, and gives death; and His is the alternation of night and day. Will you then not use reason!

## Verse 81

بَلْ قَالُوا مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ الْاَوَّلُونَ

Bal qaloo mithla ma qalaal-awwaloon

The truth is, they say the like of what the former peoples said;

قَالُٓوا ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباً وَعِظَاماً ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

Qaloo a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon

They say: “When we are dead and are dust and bones, will we be raised?

## Verse 83

لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَاٰبَٓاؤُ۬نَا هٰذَا مِنْ قَبْلُ اِنْ هٰذَٓا اِلَّٓا اَسَاط۪يرُ الْاَوَّل۪ينَ

Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaonahatha min qablu in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen

“We have been promised this, we and our fathers, before; these are only legends of the former peoples.”

## Verse 84

قُلْ لِمَنِ الْاَرْضُ وَمَنْ ف۪يهَٓا اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Qul limani al-ardu waman feehain kuntum taAAlamoon

Say thou: “To whom belong the earth and whoso is therein, if you know?”

## Verse 85

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلّٰهِۜ قُلْ اَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatathakkaroon

They will say: “To God.” Say thou: “Will you then not take heed!”

## Verse 86

قُلْ مَنْ رَبُّ السَّمٰوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظ۪يمِ

Qul man rabbu assamawatiassabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheem

Say thou: “Who is Lord of the Seven Heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?”

## Verse 87

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلّٰهِۜ قُلْ اَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatattaqoon

They will say: “God.” Say thou: “Will you then not be in prudent fear!”

## Verse 88

قُلْ مَنْ بِيَدِه۪ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ يُج۪يرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Qul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shay-inwahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntumtaAAlamoon

Say thou: “In whose hand is dominion of all things — and He grants protection, and against whom there is no protection, if you know?”

## Verse 89

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلّٰهِۜ قُلْ فَاَنّٰى تُسْحَرُونَ

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faannatusharoon

They will say: “In God’s.” Say thou: “How then are you taken by sorcery?”

## Verse 90

بَلْ اَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَاِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ

Bal ataynahum bilhaqqiwa-innahum lakathiboon

The truth is, We brought them the truth, and they are liars.

## Verse 91

مَا اتَّخَذَ اللّٰهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ اِلٰهٍ اِذاً لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ اِلٰهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰى بَعْضٍۜ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَۙ

Ma ittakhatha Allahumin waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithanlathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAalabaAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana AllahiAAamma yasifoon

God has not taken any son. And there is not with Him any god; then would each god have taken what he created, and some of them would have overcome others. Glory be to God above what they describe —

## Verse 92

عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَتَعَالٰى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ۟

AAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifataAAala AAamma yushrikoon

The Knower of the Unseen and the Seen — and exalted above that to which they ascribe a partnership!

قُلْ رَبِّ اِمَّا تُرِيَنّ۪ي مَا يُوعَدُونَۙ

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee mayooAAadoon

Say thou: “My Lord: if Thou show me what they are promised,

## Verse 94

رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْن۪ي فِي الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِم۪ينَ

Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi aththalimeen

“My Lord: then place Thou me not among the wrongdoing people.”

## Verse 95

وَاِنَّا عَلٰٓى اَنْ نُرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَادِرُونَ

Wa-inna AAala an nuriyaka manaAAiduhum laqadiroon

And We are able to show thee what We promise them.

## Verse 96

اِدْفَعْ بِالَّت۪ي هِيَ اَحْسَنُ السَّيِّئَةَۜ نَحْنُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ

IdfaAA billatee hiya ahsanu assayyi-atanahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoon

Repel thou the evil with what is better — We best know what they describe —

## Verse 97

وَقُلْ رَبِّ اَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاط۪ينِۙ

Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazatiashshayateen

And say thou: “My Lord: I seek refuge in Thee from the goading of the satans,

## Verse 98

وَاَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ اَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahduroon

“And I seek refuge in Thee my Lord lest they be present with me.”

## Verse 99

حَتّٰٓى اِذَا جَٓاءَ اَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِۙ

Hatta itha jaa ahadahumualmawtu qala rabbi irjiAAoon

When death has come to one of them, he says: “My Lord: send Thou me back,

## Verse 100

لَعَلّ۪ٓي اَعْمَلُ صَالِحاً ف۪يمَا تَرَكْتُ كَلَّاۜ اِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَٓائِلُهَاۜ وَمِنْ وَرَٓائِهِمْ بَرْزَخٌ اِلٰى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

LaAAallee aAAmalu salihanfeema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluhawamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoon

“That I might work righteousness in what I left behind.” No, indeed! It is but a word that he says; and behind them is a barrier until the day they are raised.

## Verse 101

فَاِذَا نُفِـخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَلَٓا اَنْسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَٓاءَلُونَ

Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorifala ansaba baynahum yawma-ithin walayatasaaloon

And when the Trumpet is blown, then no ties of kinship are between them that day nor will they ask one of another.

## Verse 102

فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

Faman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faola-ikahumu almuflihoon

Then whose balances are heavy, it is they who are the successful.

## Verse 103

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ خَسِرُٓوا اَنْفُسَهُمْ ف۪ي جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدُونَۚ

Waman khaffat mawazeenuhu faola-ikaallatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoon

And whose balances are light, those are they who have lost their souls, in Gehenna abiding eternally,

## Verse 104

تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ النَّارُ وَهُمْ ف۪يهَا كَالِحُونَ

Talfahu wujoohahumu annaruwahum feeha kalihoon

The Fire scorching their faces, and they scowling therein:

## Verse 105

اَلَمْ تَكُنْ اٰيَات۪ي تُتْلٰى عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ

Alam takun ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboon

“Were not My proofs recited to you, and you denied them?”

## Verse 106

قَالُوا رَبَّـنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْماً ضَٓالّ۪ينَ

Qaloo rabbana ghalabatAAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleen

They will say: “Our Lord: our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.

## Verse 107

رَبَّـنَٓا اَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَاِنْ عُدْنَا فَاِنَّا ظَالِمُونَ

Rabbana akhrijna minhafa-in AAudna fa-inna thalimoon

“Our Lord: turn Thou us out therefrom; if we return, then are we wrongdoers.”

## Verse 108

قَالَ اخْسَؤُ۫ا ف۪يهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ

Qala ikhsaoo feeha walatukallimoon

He will say: “Be despised therein; and speak not to Me.

## Verse 109

اِنَّهُ  كَانَ فَر۪يقٌ مِنْ عِبَاد۪ي يَقُولُونَ رَبَّـنَٓا اٰمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِم۪ينَۚ

Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadeeyaqooloona rabbana amanna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru arrahimeen

“A faction among My servants said: ‘Our Lord: we believe, then forgive Thou us, and have mercy on us; and Thou art the best of those who have mercy.’

## Verse 110

فَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِياًّ حَتّٰٓى اَنْسَوْكُمْ ذِكْر۪ي وَكُنْتُمْ مِنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ

Fattakhathtumoohumsikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntumminhum tadhakoon

“Then you took them in derision until they made you forget My remembrance, and you laughed at them.

## Verse 111

اِنّ۪ي جَزَيْتُهُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُٓواۙ اَنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْفَٓائِزُونَ

Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabarooannahum humu alfa-izoon

“I have rewarded them this day for their patience; they are the attainers of success.”

قَالَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِن۪ينَ

Qala kam labithtum fee al-ardiAAadada sineen

He will say: “How long tarried you in the earth, by number of years?”

## Verse 113

قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْماً اَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَسْـَٔلِ الْعَٓادّ۪ينَ

Qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAdayawmin fas-ali alAAaddeen

They will say: “We tarried a day, or part of a day; ask Thou those who keep count.”

## Verse 114

قَالَ اِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ اِلَّا قَل۪يلاً لَوْ اَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Qala in labithtum illaqaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoon

He will say: “You tarried only a little; had you but known[...].

## Verse 115

اَفَحَسِبْتُمْ اَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثاً وَاَنَّكُمْ اِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ

Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakumAAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoon

“Thought you that We only created you for amusement, and that to Us you would not be returned?”

## Verse 116

فَتَعَالَى اللّٰهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّۚ   لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَۚ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَر۪يمِ

FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwarabbu alAAarshi alkareem

Then exalted be God, the True King! There is no god save He: the Lord of the Noble Throne.

## Verse 117

وَمَنْ يَدْعُ مَعَ اللّٰهِ اِلٰهاً اٰخَرَۙ   لَا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِه۪ۙ فَاِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِنْدَ رَبِّه۪ۜ اِنَّهُ لَا يُفْلِحُ الْكَافِرُونَ

Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara la burhana lahu bihi fa-innamahisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihualkafiroon

And whoso calls, with God, to another god, whereof he has no evidence, then is his reckoning but with his Lord; the false claimers of guidance will not be successful.

## Verse 118

وَقُلْ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِم۪ينَ

Waqul rabbi ighfir warhamwaanta khayru arrahimeen

And say thou: “My Lord: forgive Thou, and have Thou mercy; and Thou art the best of those who have mercy.”
