Surah Al-Mulk (The Sovereignty) — سورة الملك - **Verse:** 19 / 30 · **Juz:** 29 · **Mushaf page:** 562 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-mulk/verse-19 ## Arabic اَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا اِلَى الطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَٓافَّاتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَۜ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ اِلَّا الرَّحْمٰنُۜ اِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ بَص۪يرٌ ## Transcription Awa lam yaraw ila attayrifawqahum saffatin wayaqbidna mayumsikuhunna illa arrahmanu innahubikulli shay-in baseer ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Have they not looked at the birds above them, with wings outspread and folded back? Nothing holds them up but the All-Merciful. He sees all things. ### Progressive Muslims Have they not looked to the birds lined-up together above them, and they launch The Almighty is the One who holds them in the air. He is Seer of all things. ### Shabbir Ahmed Have they, then, never seen the birds above them spreading their wings and drawing them in? He is Seer of all things. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Have they not seen birds above them spreading and closing their wings, with none holding them except the Merciful One?[1] He oversees everything.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, each bird that flies in the air, does so in the protection of the All-Merciful God. He it is Who has given to each bird the form and structure by which it became able to fly. He it is Who has taught each bird the method to fly. He it is Who has made the air obey the laws by which it became possible for the heavier than air bodies to fly in it, and He it is Who upholds every bird in the air, otherwise the moment Allah withdraws His protection from it, it drops to the ground. - [2] That is, this is not confined only to birds, but whatever exists in the world, exists because of Allah’s keeping and guardianship. He alone provides the means necessary for the existence of everything, and He alone keeps watch that everything created by Him is provided with the necessities of life. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Do they not see the birds above them soaring with extended wings, and at times darting with them folded in? No one can maintain them at that level in the atmosphere but AL-Rahman who made the terrestial air subservient to them. He is indeed Bassirun (Omnipresent), He. sees all that you do and all in all. ### Bijan Moeinian Do the disbelievers not see the birds above them who spread their wings and close the? Non but your Merciful Lord is upholding them in the sky.
