Surah Al-Mujadila (The Pleading Woman) — سورة المجادلة - **Verse:** 14 / 22 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 543 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-14 ## Arabic اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ تَوَلَّوْا قَوْماً غَضِبَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِمْۜ مَا هُمْ مِنْكُمْ وَلَا مِنْهُمْۙ وَيَحْلِفُونَ عَلَى الْـكَذِبِ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ ## Transcription Alam tara ila allatheenatawallaw qawman ghadiba Allahu AAalayhim mahum minkum wala minhum wayahlifoona AAalaalkathibi wahum yaAAlamoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Do you not see those who have turned to people with whom Allah is angry? They belong neither to you nor to them. And they swear to falsehood and do so knowingly. ### Progressive Muslims Have you noted those who befriended people with whom God is angry They are now neither from you nor from them. And they deliberately swear to lies while they know! ### Shabbir Ahmed Have you not seen those who befriend a people whom Allah disapproves? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear a false oath knowingly. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Do you not see those who took for friends a people whom Allah is wroth with?[1] They neither belong to you nor you to them.[2] They swear to a falsehood, and they do so knowingly.[3] _Footnotes_ - [1] The allusion is to the Jews of Al-Madinah whom the hypocrites had taken for friends. - [2] That is, they are neither sincere in their connections with the believers, nor with the Jews: their relations with both are based on selfish interests. - [3] A false oath: that they have believed in and have accepted Muhammad (peace be upon him) as their guide and leader and are faithful to Islam and the Muslims. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Do you see how these hypocrites made a friendly intimacy with a people who incurred the righteous indignation of Allah. They neither really belong to you nor to them and they take an oath profanely and they know they are lying. ### Bijan Moeinian Have you noticed those who befriended people with whom God is angry? They have ended up belonging not to their camp not to yours.
