Surah Al-Mujadila > سورة المجادلة — The Pleading Woman · 22 verses · Mushaf page: 542 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila - **Translation:** Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation _In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._ بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ ## Verse 1 قَدْ سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ قَوْلَ الَّت۪ي تُجَادِلُكَ ف۪ي زَوْجِهَا وَتَشْتَك۪ٓي اِلَى اللّٰهِۗ وَاللّٰهُ يَسْمَعُ تَحَاوُرَكُمَاۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَم۪يعٌ بَص۪يرٌ Qad samiAAa Allahu qawla allatee tujadilukafee zawjiha watashtakee ila Allahi wallahuyasmaAAu tahawurakuma inna Allaha sameeAAunbaseer God has heard the word of her that disputes with thee concerning her husband, and makes complaint to God. And God hears you two conversing together; God is hearing and seeing. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-1.md_ ## Verse 2 اَلَّذ۪ينَ يُظَاهِرُونَ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ نِسَٓائِهِمْ مَا هُنَّ اُمَّهَاتِهِمْۜ اِنْ اُمَّهَاتُهُمْ اِلَّا الّٰٓئ۪ وَلَدْنَهُمْۜ وَاِنَّهُمْ لَيَقُولُونَ مُنْكَراً مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَزُوراًۜ وَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَعَفُوٌّ غَفُورٌ Allatheena yuthahiroonaminkum min nisa-ihim ma hunna ommahatihim inommahatuhum illa alla-ee waladnahumwa-innahum layaqooloona munkaran mina alqawli wazooran wa-innaAllaha laAAafuwwun ghafoor Those among you who assist among their wives: — they are not their mothers; their mothers are only those who gave them birth. And they say what is perverse of speech, and a falsehood; but God is forgiving and merciful. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-2.md_ ## Verse 3 وَالَّذ۪ينَ يُظَاهِرُونَ مِنْ نِسَٓائِهِمْ ثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ لِمَا قَالُوا فَـتَحْر۪يرُ رَقَـبَةٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يَتَمَٓاسَّاۜ ذٰلِكُمْ تُوعَظُونَ بِه۪ۜ وَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَب۪يرٌ Wallatheena yuthahiroonamin nisa-ihim thumma yaAAoodoona lima qaloofatahreeru raqabatin min qabli an yatamassa thalikumtooAAathoona bihi wallahu bimataAAmaloona khabeer And those who assist among their wives, then go back on what they have said: — the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. By that are you admonished; and God is aware of what you do. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-3.md_ ## Verse 4 فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يَتَمَٓاسَّاۚ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَاِطْعَامُ سِتّ۪ينَ مِسْك۪يناًۜ ذٰلِكَ لِتُؤْمِنُوا بِاللّٰهِ وَرَسُولِه۪ۜ وَتِلْكَ حُدُودُ اللّٰهِۜ وَلِلْكَافِر۪ينَ عَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ Faman lam yajid fasiyamushahrayni mutatabiAAayni min qabli an yatamassafaman lam yastatiAA fa-itAAamu sitteenamiskeenan thalika litu/minoo billahiwarasoolihi watilka hudoodu Allahi walilkafireenaAAathabun aleem And whoso has not the means: — a fast of two months consecutively before they touch one another. And whoso is not able: — the feeding of sixty needy persons. That is that you might believe in God and His messenger. And those are the limits of God; and for the false claimers of guidance is a painful punishment. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-4.md_ ## Verse 5 اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ يُحَٓادُّونَ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ كُبِتُوا كَمَا كُبِتَ الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ وَقَدْ اَنْزَلْـنَٓا اٰيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍۜ وَلِلْكَافِر۪ينَ عَذَابٌ مُه۪ينٌۚ Inna allatheena yuhaddoona Allahawarasoolahu kubitoo kama kubita allatheena minqablihim waqad anzalna ayatin bayyinatinwalilkafireena AAathabun muheen Those who oppose God and His messenger will be abased even as those before them were abased. And We have sent down clear proofs; and for the false claimers of guidance is a humiliating punishment. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-5.md_ ## Verse 6 يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اللّٰهُ جَم۪يعاً فَيُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا عَمِلُواۜ اَحْصٰيهُ اللّٰهُ وَنَسُوهُۜ وَاللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَه۪يدٌ۟ Yawma yabAAathuhumu Allahu jameeAAanfayunabbi-ohum bima AAamiloo ahsahu Allahuwanasoohu wallahu AAala kulli shay-inshaheed The day God raises them all together, then will He inform them of what they did. God counted it while they forgot it; and God is over all things witness. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-6.md_ ## Verse 7 اَلَمْ تَرَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْاَرْضِۜ مَا يَكُونُ مِنْ نَجْوٰى ثَلٰثَةٍ اِلَّا هُوَ رَابِعُهُمْ وَلَا خَمْسَةٍ اِلَّا هُوَ سَادِسُهُمْ وَلَٓا اَدْنٰى مِنْ ذٰلِكَ وَلَٓا اَكْثَرَ اِلَّا هُوَ مَعَهُمْ اَيْنَ مَا كَانُواۚ ثُمَّ يُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا عَمِلُوا يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَل۪يمٌ Alam tara anna Allaha yaAAlamu mafee assamawati wama fee al-ardima yakoonu min najwa thalathatin illahuwa rabiAAuhum wala khamsatin illa huwa sadisuhumwala adna min thalika wala aktharailla huwa maAAahum ayna ma kanoo thummayunabbi-ohum bima AAamiloo yawma alqiyamati innaAllaha bikulli shay-in AAaleem Dost thou not see that God knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth? There is no private conversation of three save He is their fourth, nor of five save He is their sixth — nor of less than that, nor of greater, save He is with them wherever they may be; then will He inform them of what they did on the Day of Resurrection. God knows all things. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-7.md_ ## Verse 8 اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ نُهُوا عَنِ النَّجْوٰى ثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ لِمَا نُهُوا عَنْهُ وَيَتَنَاجَوْنَ بِالْاِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَمَعْصِيَتِ الرَّسُولِۘ وَاِذَا جَٓاؤُ۫كَ حَيَّوْكَ بِمَا لَمْ يُحَيِّكَ بِهِ اللّٰهُۙ وَيَقُولُونَ ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْ لَوْلَا يُعَذِّبُنَا اللّٰهُ بِمَا نَقُولُۜ حَسْبُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُۚ يَصْلَوْنَهَاۚ فَبِئْسَ الْمَص۪يرُ Alam tara ila allatheena nuhooAAani annajwa thumma yaAAoodoona lima nuhooAAanhu wayatanajawna bil-ithmi walAAudwaniwamaAAsiyati arrasooli wa-itha jaookahayyawka bima lam yuhayyika bihi Allahuwayaqooloona fee anfusihim lawla yuAAaththibunaAllahu bima naqoolu hasbuhum jahannamu yaslawnahafabi/sa almaseer Hast thou not considered those who were forbidden private conversation then return to what they were forbidden and converse confidentially in sin and enmity and disobedience to the Messenger? And when they come to thee, they greet thee with a greeting wherewith God never greeted thee; and they say within themselves: “Oh, that God but punished us for what we say!” Sufficient for them is Gehenna: they will burn therein; and evil is the journey’s end! _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-8.md_ ## Verse 9 يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اِذَا تَنَاجَيْتُمْ فَلَا تَتَنَاجَوْا بِالْاِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَمَعْصِيَتِ الرَّسُولِ وَتَنَاجَوْا بِالْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوٰىۜ وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ الَّـذ۪ٓي اِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha tanajaytum fala tatanajaw bil-ithmiwalAAudwani wamaAAsiyati arrasooliwatanajaw bilbirri wattaqwa wattaqooAllaha allathee ilayhi tuhsharoon O you who heed warning: when you converse confidentially, converse not confidentially in sin and enmity, and disobedience to the Messenger, but converse confidentially in virtue and prudent fear. And be in prudent fear of God to whom you will be gathered. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-9.md_ ## Verse 10 اِنَّمَا النَّجْوٰى مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ لِيَحْزُنَ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا وَلَيْسَ بِضَٓارِّهِمْ شَيْـٔاً اِلَّا بِـاِذْنِ اللّٰهِۜ وَعَلَى اللّٰهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ Innama annajwa mina ashshaytaniliyahzuna allatheena amanoo walaysa bidarrihimshay-an illa bi-ithni Allahi waAAalaAllahi falyatawakkali almu/minoon Private conversation is but of the satan, that he might grieve those who heed warning; but he will not harm them at all save by the leave of God. And in God let the believers place their trust. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-10.md_ ## Verse 11 يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اِذَا ق۪يلَ لَكُمْ تَفَسَّحُوا فِي الْمَجَالِسِ فَافْسَحُوا يَفْسَحِ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْۚ وَاِذَا ق۪يلَ انْشُزُوا فَانْشُزُوا يَرْفَعِ اللّٰهُ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا مِنْكُمْۙ وَالَّذ۪ينَ اُو۫تُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍۜ وَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَب۪يرٌ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha qeela lakum tafassahoo fee almajalisifafsahoo yafsahi Allahu lakum wa-ithaqeela onshuzoo fanshuzoo yarfaAAi Allahu allatheenaamanoo minkum wallatheena ootoo alAAilmadarajatin wallahu bima taAAmaloonakhabeer O you who heed warning: when it is said to you: “Make room in the assemblies,” then make room; God will make room for you. And when it is said: “Arise,” then arise. God will raise those who heed warning and those given knowledge among you in degree. And God is aware of what you do. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-11.md_ ## Verse 12 يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اِذَا نَاجَيْتُمُ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوٰيكُمْ صَدَقَةًۜ ذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ لَـكُمْ وَاَطْهَرُۜ فَاِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ رَح۪يمٌ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha najaytumu arrasoola faqaddimoo baynayaday najwakum sadaqatan thalika khayrunlakum waatharu fa-in lam tajidoo fa-inna Allahaghafoorun raheem O you who heed warning: when you converse confidentially with the Messenger, send ahead charity before your private conversation. That is better for you, and purer. But if you find not the means — God is forgiving and merciful. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-12.md_ ## Verse 13 ءَاَشْفَقْتُمْ اَنْ تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوٰيكُمْ صَدَقَاتٍۜ فَاِذْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا وَتَابَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاَق۪يمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَاَط۪يعُوا اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُۜ وَاللّٰهُ خَب۪يرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ۟ Aashfaqtum an tuqaddimoo bayna yaday najwakumsadaqatin fa-ith lam tafAAaloo watabaAllahu AAalaykum faaqeemoo assalatawaatoo azzakata waateeAAoo Allahawarasoolahu wallahu khabeerun bimataAAmaloon Fear you to send ahead charity before your private conversation? Then when you do not — and God has turned towards you — then uphold the duty and render the purity, and obey God and His messenger. And God is aware of what you do. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-13.md_ ## Verse 14 اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ تَوَلَّوْا قَوْماً غَضِبَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِمْۜ مَا هُمْ مِنْكُمْ وَلَا مِنْهُمْۙ وَيَحْلِفُونَ عَلَى الْـكَذِبِ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ Alam tara ila allatheenatawallaw qawman ghadiba Allahu AAalayhim mahum minkum wala minhum wayahlifoona AAalaalkathibi wahum yaAAlamoon Hast thou not considered those who take as allies a people with whom God is wroth? They are neither of you nor of them; and they swear to lies, and they know. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-14.md_ ## Verse 15 اَعَدَّ اللّٰهُ لَهُمْ عَذَاباً شَد۪يداًۜ اِنَّهُمْ سَٓاءَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ aAAadda Allahu lahum AAathabanshadeedan innahum saa ma kanoo yaAAmaloon God has prepared for them a severe punishment; evil is what they did. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-15.md_ ## Verse 16 اِتَّخَذُٓوا اَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُه۪ينٌ Ittakhathoo aymanahum junnatanfasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi falahum AAathabunmuheen They took their oaths as a cover, and turned away from the path of God; so for them is a humiliating punishment. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-16.md_ ## Verse 17 لَنْ تُغْنِيَ عَنْهُمْ اَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَٓا اَوْلَادُهُمْ مِنَ اللّٰهِ شَيْـٔاًۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ اَصْحَابُ النَّارِۚ هُمْ ف۪يهَا خَالِدُونَ Lan tughniya AAanhum amwaluhum walaawladuhum mina Allahi shay-an ola-ika as-habuannari hum feeha khalidoon Their wealth and their children will avail them nothing against God; those: they are the companions of the Fire, therein they abide eternally. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-17.md_ ## Verse 18 يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اللّٰهُ جَم۪يعاً فَيَحْلِفُونَ لَهُ كَمَا يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ وَيَحْسَبُونَ اَنَّهُمْ عَلٰى شَيْءٍۜ اَلَٓا اِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ Yawma yabAAathuhumu Allahu jameeAAanfayahlifoona lahu kama yahlifoona lakum wayahsaboonaannahum AAala shay-in ala innahum humu alkathiboon The day God raises them all together, they will swear to Him as they swear to you and think that they stand upon something. In truth, it is they who are the liars. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-18.md_ ## Verse 19 اِسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَاَنْسٰيهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللّٰهِۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِۜ اَلَٓا اِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ Istahwatha AAalayhimu ashshaytanufaansahum thikra Allahi ola-ika hizbuashshaytani ala inna hizba ashshaytanihumu alkhasiroon The satan overcame them, and made them forget the remembrance of God. Those are the party of the satan. In truth, the party of the satan, they are the losers. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-19.md_ ## Verse 20 اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ يُحَٓادُّونَ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُٓ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ فِي الْاَذَلّ۪ينَ Inna allatheena yuhaddoona Allahawarasoolahu ola-ika fee al-athalleen Those who oppose God and His messenger, those will be among the most abject. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-20.md_ ## Verse 21 كَتَبَ اللّٰهُ لَاَغْلِبَنَّ اَنَا۬ وَرُسُل۪يۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ قَوِيٌّ عَز۪يزٌ Kataba Allahu laaghlibanna anawarusulee inna Allaha qawiyyun AAazeez God has written: “I will conquer — I and My messengers!” God is strong and exalted in might. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-21.md_ ## Verse 22 لَا تَجِدُ قَوْماً يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ يُوَٓادُّونَ مَنْ حَٓادَّ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَوْ كَانُٓوا اٰبَٓاءَهُمْ اَوْ اَبْنَٓاءَهُمْ اَوْ اِخْوَانَهُمْ اَوْ عَش۪يرَتَهُمْۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ كَتَبَ ف۪ي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْا۪يمَانَ وَاَيَّدَهُمْ بِرُوحٍ مِنْهُۜ وَيُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْر۪ي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهَارُ خَالِد۪ينَ ف۪يهَاۜ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ حِزْبُ اللّٰهِۜ اَلَٓا اِنَّ حِزْبَ اللّٰهِ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ La tajidu qawman yu/minoona billahiwalyawmi al-akhiri yuwaddoona man haddaAllaha warasoolahu walaw kanoo abaahumaw abnaahum aw ikhwanahum aw AAasheeratahum ola-ikakataba fee quloobihimu al-eemana waayyadahum biroohinminhu wayudkhiluhum jannatin tajree min tahtihaal-anharu khalideena feeha radiya AllahuAAanhum waradoo AAanhu ola-ika hizbu Allahiala inna hizba Allahi humu almuflihoon Thou wilt not find people who believe in God and the Last Day loving those who oppose God and His messenger, though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. Those:–– — He has written faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a Spirit from Himself, and will make them enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abiding eternally therein, God pleased with them, and they pleased with Him — those are the party of God.
