Surah Al-Ma'idah (The Feast) — سورة المائدة - **Verse:** 57 / 120 · **Juz:** 6 · **Mushaf page:** 116 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-maidah/verse-57 ## Arabic يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الَّذ۪ينَ اتَّخَذُوا د۪ينَكُمْ هُزُواً وَلَعِباً مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ اُو۫تُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَالْكُفَّارَ اَوْلِيَٓاءَۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِن۪ينَ ## Transcription Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tattakhithoo allatheena ittakhathoodeenakum huzuwan walaAAiban mina allatheena ootoo alkitabamin qablikum walkuffara awliyaa wattaqooAllaha in kuntum mu/mineen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You who have iman! do not take as friends any of those given the Book before you or the kuffar who make a mockery and a game out of your deen. Have taqwa of Allah if you are muminun. ### Progressive Muslims O you who believe, do not take as allies those who have taken your system as fun and games from among those who have been given the Scripture before you and the rejecters. And be aware of God if you are believers. ### Shabbir Ahmed O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Do not take for allies, some of the people who were given the Scripture before you, and the rejecters who mock and ridicule your Religion. Be mindful of Allah's Commands if you are indeed believers. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation O you who heed warning: take not those who take your doctrine in mockery and fun among those given the Writ before you and the atheists as allies; and be in prudent fear of God if you be believers. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation O you who believe, do not take as allies those who have taken your system for mockery and play from among those who have been given the Book before you and the rejecters. And fear Allah, if you should [truly] be believers. ### Muhammad Asad O you who have attained to faith! Do not take for your friends such as mock at your, faith and make a jest of it-be they from among those who have been vouchsafed revelation before your time, or [from among] those who deny the truth [of revelation as such] -but remain conscious of God, if you are [truly] believers: ### Marmaduke Pickthall O Ye who believe! Choose not for guardians such of those who received the Scripture before you, and of the disbelievers, as make a jest and sport of your religion. But keep your duty to Allah if ye are true believers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Believers! Do not take for your allies those who make a mockery and sport of your faith, be they those given the Book before you or other unbelievers. Fear Allah if you indeed believe. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab O You who have conformed to Islam: Do not take defenders, supporters, or intimate friends from among those given the Book before you, nor from the infidels who are at enmity with your faith. It is incumbent on you to deny their tutelage. They mock your religion and amuse themselves with its principles. You just entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah if indeed your hearts have been impressed with the image of religious and spiritual virtues. ### Bijan Moeinian O’ you who believe, do not choose your (intimate) friends among those who take your religion lightly and make fun of it as well as the disbelievers and those of the previous Scriptures. Keep the Lord with the utmost respect in mind, if you are true Believers. ### Al-Hilali & Khan O you who believe! Take not as Auliyâ’ (protectors and helpers) those who take your religion as a mockery and fun from among those who received the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before you, and nor from among the disbelievers; and fear Allâh if you indeed are true believers. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but fear ye Allah, if ye have faith (indeed). ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran O believers! Do not seek the guardianship of those given the Scripture before you and the disbelievers who have made your faith a mockery and amusement. And be mindful of Allah if you are ˹truly˺ believers. ### Taqi Usmani O you who believe, do not take those who have taken your Faith in jest and fun for friends from those who have been given the Book prior to you, and the disbelievers.
