Surah Al-Ma'idah (The Feast) — سورة المائدة - **Verse:** 13 / 120 · **Juz:** 6 · **Mushaf page:** 108 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-maidah/verse-13 ## Arabic فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِمْ م۪يثَاقَهُمْ لَعَنَّاهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا قُلُوبَهُمْ قَاسِيَةًۚ يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَنْ مَوَاضِعِه۪ۙ وَنَسُوا حَظاًّ مِمَّا ذُكِّرُوا بِه۪ۚ وَلَا تَزَالُ تَطَّلِعُ عَلٰى خَٓائِنَةٍ مِنْهُمْ اِلَّا قَل۪يلاً مِنْهُمْ فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاصْفَحْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِن۪ينَ ## Transcription Fabima naqdihim meethaqahumlaAAannahum wajaAAalna quloobahum qasiyatanyuharrifoona alkalima AAan mawadiAAihi wanasoo haththanmimma thukkiroo bihi wala tazalu tattaliAAuAAala kha-inatin minhum illa qaleelan minhumfaAAfu AAanhum wasfah inna Allahayuhibbu almuhsineen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley But because of their breaking of their covenant, We have cursed them and made their hearts hard. They distort the true meaning of words and have forgotten a good portion of what they were reminded of. You will never cease to come upon some act of treachery on their part, except for a few of them. Yet pardon them, and overlook. Allah loves good-doers. ### Progressive Muslims But because of them breaking their covenant, We have cursed them, and made their hearts become hardened; they take the words out of context; and they forgot much of what they were reminded of. And you will still discover betrayal in them except for a few; so pardon them and overlook; God loves the good doers. ### Shabbir Ahmed When they broke their Promise, We rejected them and Our Law caused their hearts to harden. So, now they change words from their context and ignore a good part of the Message, forgetting what they were told to bear in mind. Lo! Allah loveth the kindly. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Then, for their breach of the covenant We cast them away from Our mercy and caused their hearts to harden. (And now they are in such a state that) they pervert the words from their context and thus distort their meaning, and have forgotten a good portion of the teaching they were imparted, and regarding all except a few of them you continue to learn that they committed acts of treachery. Pardon them, then, and overlook their deeds. Surely Allah loves those who do good deeds. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Yet, set to their discredit was the crime of breaking the divine covenant which brought them within the measure of Allah’s wrath; We poured upon them maledictions and rendered them hard-hearted. They translocation the words of the Sacred Scriptures to alter Allah’s words and willfully neglect a part of what was imparted to them. And thus still you sense O Muhammad deception as the principal ingredient in their disposition with the excepting a few among them who lift to Allah their inward sight. Nonetheless, accord them forgiveness and do not entertain them with thoughts of ill-will; Allah likes those who turn their thoughts on moral excellence and benevolence. ### Bijan Moeinian Then they broke their covenant! Therefore, I put a curse on them and made their hearts insensitive to the truth. With a few exception, they are the ones who falsify the words of the Scriptures and disregard some of their commandments. You will be subject to their betrayal every now and then. Forgive them and disregard them as God loves graceful people. ### Al-Hilali & Khan So, because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their (right) places and have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them.[1] And you will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them.
