# 92. Surah Al-Layl

_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰىۙ

Wallayli itha yaghsha

By the night when it covers!

## Verse 2

وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا تَجَلّٰىۙ

Wannahari itha tajalla

And by the day when it shines forth!

## Verse 3

وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْاُنْثٰىۙ

Wama khalaqa aththakarawal-ontha

And by Him that created the male and the female!

## Verse 4

اِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتّٰىۜ

Inna saAAyakum lashatta

Your efforts are diverse.

## Verse 5

فَاَمَّا مَنْ اَعْطٰى وَاتَّقٰىۙ

Faamma man aAAta wattaqa

And as for him who gives and is in prudent fear,

## Verse 6

وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنٰىۙ

Wasaddaqa bilhusna

And confirms the best:

## Verse 7

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرٰىۜ

Fasanuyassiruhu lilyusra

We will ease him towards ease.

## Verse 8

وَاَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنٰىۙ

Waamma man bakhila wastaghna

And as for him who is miserly, and self-sufficient,

## Verse 9

وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنٰىۙ

Wakaththaba bilhusna

And denies the best:

## Verse 10

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرٰىۜ

Fasanuyassiruhu lilAAusra

We will ease him towards hardship,

## Verse 11

وَمَا يُغْن۪ي عَنْهُ مَالُـهُٓ اِذَا تَرَدّٰىۜ

Wama yughnee AAanhu maluhu ithataradda

And his wealth will not avail him when he falls.

## Verse 12

اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدٰىۘ

Inna AAalayna lalhuda

Upon Us is the guidance,

## Verse 13

وَاِنَّ لَنَا لَلْاٰخِرَةَ وَالْاُو۫لٰى

Wa-inna lana lal-akhirata wal-oola

And to Us belong the latter and the former.

## Verse 14

فَاَنْذَرْتُكُمْ نَاراً تَلَظّٰىۚ

Faanthartukum naran talaththa

So I have warned you of a raging Fire

## Verse 15

لَا يَصْلٰيهَٓا اِلَّا الْاَشْقٰىۙ

La yaslaha illaal-ashqa

In which burns only the most wretched:

## Verse 16

اَلَّذ۪ي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىۜ

Allathee kaththaba watawalla

Who denied and turned away.

## Verse 17

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْاَتْقٰىۙ

Wasayujannabuha al-atqa

And the most prudent in fear will be kept from it:

## Verse 18

اَلَّذ۪ي يُؤْت۪ي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكّٰىۚ

Allathee yu/tee malahuyatazakka

Who gives his wealth to purify himself,

## Verse 19

وَمَا لِاَحَدٍ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ تُجْزٰىۙ

Wama li-ahadin AAindahu minniAAmatin tujza

And not that any have a favour to be rewarded,

## Verse 20

اِلَّا ابْتِغَٓاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْاَعْلٰىۚ

Illa ibtighaa wajhi rabbihial-aAAla

Only seeking the face of his Lord, the Most High;

## Verse 21

وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضٰى

Walasawfa yarda

And he will be satisfied.
