Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave) — سورة الكهف - **Verse:** 98 / 110 · **Juz:** 16 · **Mushaf page:** 303 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-kahf/verse-98 ## Arabic قَالَ هٰذَا رَحْمَةٌ مِنْ رَبّ۪يۚ فَاِذَا جَٓاءَ وَعْدُ رَبّ۪ي جَعَلَهُ دَكَّٓاءَۚ وَكَانَ وَعْدُ رَبّ۪ي حَقاًّۜ ## Transcription Qala hatha rahmatun minrabbee fa-itha jaa waAAdu rabbee jaAAalahu dakkaawakana waAAdu rabbee haqqa ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He said, ‘This is a mercy from my Lord. But when my Lord’s promise comes about, He will crush it flat. The promise of my Lord is surely true.’ ### Progressive Muslims He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it rubble. And the promise of my Lord is truth." ### Shabbir Ahmed Said the King, "This is a mercy from my Lord. Yet when the time appointed by my Lord shall come, He will make this barrier level with the ground. And my Lord's Promise always comes true. Yet when the time appointed by my Sustainer shall come, He will make this [rampart] level with the ground: and my Sustainer's promise always comes true!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground.[1] My Lord's promise always comes true."[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, though I have built a very strong iron wall, as far as it was possible for me, it is not ever lasting, for it will last only as long as Allah wills, and will fall down to pieces when the time of my Lord’s promise shall come. Then no power in the world shall be able to keep it safe and secure. - [2] As regards to the time of Allah’s promise, it has two meanings. (1) It may mean the time of the destruction of the wall. (2) It may also mean the time of the death and destruction of everything destined by Allah at the end of the world i.e. the Hour of Resurrection. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab "At the end", Zul-Qarnain said thankfully: "This is a mercy graciously vouchsafed by Allah, my Creator, and when Allah's predetermined point of time comes to pass, He shall turn it to dust.
