Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave) — سورة الكهف - **Verse:** 5 / 110 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 293 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-kahf/verse-5 ## Arabic مَا لَهُمْ بِه۪ مِنْ عِلْمٍ وَلَا لِاٰبَٓائِهِمْۜ كَبُرَتْ كَلِمَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ اَفْوَاهِهِمْۜ اِنْ يَقُولُونَ اِلَّا كَذِباً ## Transcription Ma lahum bihi min AAilmin walali-aba-ihim kaburat kalimatan takhruju min afwahihimin yaqooloona illa kathiba ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They have no knowledge of this, neither they nor their fathers. It is a monstrous utterance which has issued from their mouths. What they say is nothing but a lie. ### Progressive Muslims They have no knowledge of this, nor do their fathers. Tremendous indeed is the word coming out of their mouths. They are but saying a lie! ### Shabbir Ahmed No knowledge whatsoever have they of Him, and neither did their forefathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak not except a lie. ### Muhammad Asad No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful -is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! ### Marmaduke Pickthall (A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary a thing about which they have no knowledge,[1] neither they nor their ancestors. Dreadful is the word that comes out of their mouths. What they utter is merely a lie. _Footnotes_ - [1] "Dreadful is the word" That one is the son of God, or Allah has adopted that one as a son. This has been declared to be dreadful because it was not based o any knowledge that Allah has a son or has adopted a son. They had merely exaggerated their love for someone and invented such a relationship. And they do not realize that it is a dreadful blasphemy, impudence and fabrication that they are uttering in regards to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Neither they nor did their fathers have the true knowledge that is consistent with fact and reality nor do they have the knowledge implying firm belief of what is true on sufficient ground. How enormous, monstrous and atrocious is the word they project and to which they give a speaking tongue! Indeed, what they utter is nothing but falsehood, the product of morbid and deluded minds. ### Bijan Moeinian Those who believe that God has begotten a son, nor they fathers who taught them such a none sense, do not know what they are talking about. They are simply putting a few words together to make a sentence.
