Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave) — سورة الكهف - **Verse:** 42 / 110 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 297 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-kahf/verse-42 ## Arabic وَاُح۪يطَ بِثَمَرِه۪ فَاَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلٰى مَٓا اَنْفَقَ ف۪يهَا وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلٰى عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَن۪ي لَمْ اُشْرِكْ بِرَبّ۪ٓي اَحَداً ## Transcription Waoheeta bithamarihi faasbahayuqallibu kaffayhi AAala ma anfaqa feehawahiya khawiyatun AAala AAurooshihawayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oshrik birabbee ahada ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley The fruits of his labour were completely destroyed and he woke up wringing his hands in grief, rueing everything that he had spent on it. It was a ruin with all its trellises fallen in. He said, ‘Oh, if only I had not associated anyone with my Lord!’ ### Progressive Muslims So his fruits were ruined, and he began turning his hands at that which he has spent on it while it remained destroyed upon its foundations. And he said: "I wish I did not make any partner with my Lord!" ### Shabbir Ahmed And thus it happened. One day, the arrogant man's fruitful gardens were indeed wiped out. And there he was, twisting and turning his hands in sorrow. He lost his property which was now tumbled to pieces in complete ruin. And he could only say, "Oh, I wish I never worshiped anyone (even my property) instead of my Lord!" ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And encompassed were his fruits; and he began to wring his hands for all that he had spent therein, but it was desolate and in ruins. And he said: "I wish I had not set up any partner with my Lord!" ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Indeed, his crops were wiped out, and he ended up sorrowful, lamenting what he had spent on it in vain, as his property lay barren. He finally said, "I wish I never set up my property as a god beside my Lord." ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira And his vines were overtaken (with disaster), and he began to wring his hands (at the loss) of what he had spent on them, for the vines had fallen upon their trellises; and he said: "Would to God that I had not associated any one with my Lord. " ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And his fruits were encompassed [by ruin], so he began to turn his hands about [in dismay] over what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and said, "Oh, I wish I had not associated with my Lord anyone. " ### Muhammad Asad And [thus it happened:] his fruitful gardens were encompassed [by ruin], and there he was, wringing his hands over all that he had spent on that which now lay waste, with its trellises caved in; and he could but say, "Oh, would that I had not attributed divine powers to any but my Sustainer!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And his fruit was beset (with destruction). Then began he to wring his hands for all that he had spent upon it, when (now) it was all ruined on its trellises, and to say: Would that I had ascribed no partner to my Lord! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Eventually all his produce was destroyed and he began to wring his hands in sorrow at the loss of what he had spent on it, and on seeing it fallen down upon its trellises, saying: "Would I had not associated anyone with my Lord in His Divinity." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Suddenly were his fruits not reaped but suffered to rot, rotting to nothing. There, he kept striking the palms of his hands reciprocally in token of violent grief caused by the loss of what he spent on it; there stood the orchard so desolate empty but of dilapidated trellises over hills of ruin. There and then he said: "I wish I had not incorporated with Allah, my Creator, other deities". ### Bijan Moeinian Eventually, when he saw the result of his efforts being turned into a useless land, he was overwhelmed with sadness and sorrow and said: "I wish I had never worshipped another god (referring to himself) beside the Lord. " ### Al-Hilali & Khan So his fruits were encircled (with ruin). And he remained clapping his hands (with sorrow) over what he had spent upon it, while it was all destroyed on its trellises, and he could only say: "Would that I had ascribed no partners to my Lord!" Would I had never ascribed partners to my Lord and Cherisher!" ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And so all his produce was ˹totally˺ ruined, so he started to wring his hands for all he had spent on it, while it had collapsed on its trellises. He cried, "Alas! I wish I had never associated anyone with my Lord ˹in worship˺!" ### Taqi Usmani And its produce was overwhelmed by calamities and he stood wringing his hands (in anguish) over what he had invested in it, while it was fallen down on its trellises and he was saying, "I wish I had not ascribed any partner to my Lord!" ### Abdul Haleem And so it was: his fruit was completely destroyed, and there he was, wringing his hands over what he had invested in it, as it drooped on its trellises, and saying, ‘I wish I had not set up any partner to my Lord.’ ### Arthur John Arberry And his fruit was all encompassed, and in the morning he was wringing his hands for that he had expended upon it, and it was fallen down upon its trellises, and he was saying, 'Would I had not associated with my Lord any one!' ### E. Bunun üzerine bağına yaptığı masraflara karşı ellerini oğuşturmaya başladı. Bağ, çardakları üzerine çökmüş kalmıştı; "Ah! Keşke Rabbime hiçbir ortak koşmamış olsaydım!" diyordu. ### Gültekin Onan (Derken) Onun ürünleri (afetlerle) kuşatılıverdi. Artık o, uğrunda harcadıklarına karşı avuçlarını (esefle) oğuşturuyordu (yukallibu). O (bağın) çardakları yıkılmış durumdaydı, kendisi de şöyle diyordu: "Keşke rabbime hiç kimseyi ortak koşmasaydım." ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim (Nihayet) onun bütün serveti istilaya uğratıldı, (bağı) uğrunda harcadıklarına karşı avuçlarını uğuşdurakaldı! (o bağın) çardakları yere çökmüşdü. Diyordu ki: "Nolaydım, Rabbime hiçbir (şey'i) ortak tutmayaydım"! ### İbni Kesir Nitekim ürünleri yok edildi. Sarfettiği emeğe içi yanarak avuçlarını oğuşturuyordu. Çardakları hep yere düşmüştü. Ve diyordu ki: Ne olaydım, Rabbıma hiç kimseyi ortak koşmasaydım. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Ve (gerçekten de böyle oldu:) ürünlerle dolup taşan bahçeleri çepeçevre tarümar edildi; ve o (bahçenin) tarümar olmuş çitleri, çardakları karşısında, boşa giden emeğine yanarak ellerini oğuştura oğuştura: "Ah, n'olurdu, Rabbimden başkasına tanrısal nitelikler yakıştırmamış olsaydım!" demekten başka söyleyecek bir şey bulamadı. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Bir sabah kalktığında ürünleri yok edilmiş, çardakları ise çökmüştü: -Keşke Rabbime kimseyi ortak koşmasaydım, diyerek; ona sarfettiği emeğe avuçlarını ovuşturuyordu. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Derken (o inkarcı kişinin) ürünü yok edildi, çardakları üzerine yıkılmış durumda olan(bağ)ın karşısında ona harcadıklarına acıyarak ellerini uğuşturmağa başladı: "Ah nolaydı, ben Rabbime kimseyi ortak koşmamış olaydım!" diyordu. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Derken bütün ürününe el kondu. Bağ sahibi, çardakları üzerine çökmüş bulunan bağ için harcadıklarına vahlanarak avuçlarını ovuşturuyor ve şöyle diyordu: "Ne olurdu, Rabbime hiç kimseyi ortak koşmasaydım!" ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an Nihayet, berikinin bütün serveti mahvedildi; kökü göğe gelip tarumar olmuş o bağın karşısında durmuş, heba olan emeğine yanıp ellerini ovuşturarak diyordu ki: "Ah n'olaydım, keşke Rabbime hiç kimseyi ortak koşmamış olaydım!" ### Erhan Aktaş (Eski Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an Onun ürünleri kuşatılıp bitirildi. Yaptığı harcamaya karşılık ellerini ovuşturup şöyle demeye başladı: "Keşke Rabbime hiç kimseyi ortak saymasaydım." ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir (O şımarık kişinin) serveti kuşatılmıştı (yok edilmişti). Böylece, çardakları üzerine yıkılmış hâlde (bahçesiyle ilgili) yaptığı harcamalar yüzünden ellerini ovuşturarak şöyle diyordu: "Ah, eyvah, keşke Rabbime kimseyi ortak koşmamış olsaydım!" ### Erhan Aktaş (10.
