Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave) — سورة الكهف - **Verse:** 37 / 110 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 297 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-kahf/verse-37 ## Arabic قَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُٓ اَكَفَرْتَ بِالَّذ۪ي خَلَقَكَ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ سَوّٰيكَ رَجُلاًۜ ## Transcription Qala lahu sahibuhu wahuwa yuhawiruhuakafarta billathee khalaqaka min turabinthumma min nutfatin thumma sawwaka rajula ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley His companion, with whom he was debating, said to him, ‘Do you then disbelieve in Him who created you from dust, then from a drop of sperm, and then formed you as a man? ### Progressive Muslims His friend said to him while discussing with him: "Have you disbelieved in the One who created you from dirt, then from a seed, then He evolved you into a man" ### Shabbir Ahmed His friend differed with him, "Do you disbelieve in the One Who created you from dust, and then from gametes, and then shaped you into the current human form?" ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation His companion said to him while conversing with him: “Deniest thou Him who created thee from dust; then from a sperm-drop; then fashioned thee a man? ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation His friend said to him while discussing with him: "Have you disbelieved in the One who has created you from dust, then from a seed, then He evolved you into a man?" ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament His friend said to him, as he debated with him, "Have you disbelieved in the One who created you from dust, then from a tiny drop, then perfected you into a man? ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Disputing with him, his companion said: "Do you disbelieve in Him who created you from dust, then a drop of semen, then formed you into a man? ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man? ### Muhammad Asad And his friend answered him in the course of their argument: "Wilt thou blaspheme against Him who has created thee out of dust, and then out of a drop of sperm, and in the end has fashioned thee into a [complete] man? ### Marmaduke Pickthall His comrade, when he (thus) spake with him, exclaimed: Disbelievest thou in Him Who created thee of dust, then of a drop (of seed), and then fashioned thee a man? ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary While conversing with him his neighbour exclaimed: "Do you deny Him Who created you out of dust, then out of a drop of sperm, and then fashioned you into a complete man?[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This shows that unbelief in Allah is not confined to the denial of the existence of God in so many words, but arrogance, pride, vanity and the denial of the Hereafter are also kufr. Although that person did not deny the existence of Allah, he professed it as is apparent from his words (And if I am brought back to my Lord), yet in spite of his profession, his neighbor charged him with unbelief in Allah. This is because the person, who considers his wealth and his grandeur etc. to be the fruits of his own power and capability and not the favors of Allah, and who thinks that they are everlasting and none can take than away from him and that he is not accountable to anyone, is guilty of unbelief in Allah, even though he might profess belief in Him, for he acknowledges Allah as a Being and not as his Master, Owner and Sovereign. In fact, belief in Allah demands not merely the profession of His existence but also the acknowledgment of His Sovereignty, Mastery, Rule and the like. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Discoursing him on this point, his fellow the poor man said to him: "Do you not think you have presumed upon Providence and transgressed His authority" "He created you from dust then from a constituent part of fluid emitted, then He fashioned you and imparted to you the shape of a man!" ### Bijan Moeinian His friend replied: "Shame on you; Do you disbelieve in Him Who originally created you from the earth, then raised you from a tiny embryo into a grown up man?" ### Al-Hilali & Khan His companion said to him during the talk with him: "Do you disbelieve in Him Who created you out of dust (i.e. your father Adam), then out of Nutfah (mixed semen drops of male and female discharge), then fashioned you into a man? ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali His companion said to him, in the course of the argument with him: "Dost thou deny Him Who created thee out of dust, then out of a sperm-drop, then fashioned thee into a man? ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran His ˹believing˺ companion replied, while conversing with him, "Do you disbelieve in the One Who created you from dust,[1] then ˹developed you˺ from a sperm-drop, then formed you into a man? ### Taqi Usmani Said his companion, as he was conversing with him, "Do you deny Him who created you from dust, then from a drop (of semen), then He made you a perfect man? ### Abdul Haleem His companion retorted, ‘Have you no faith in Him who created you from dust, from a small drop of fluid, then shaped you into a man? ### Arthur John Arberry Said his fellow, as he was conversing with him, 'What, disbelievest thou in Him who created thee of dust, then of a sperm-drop, then shaped thee as a man? ### E.
