Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave) — سورة الكهف - **Verse:** 102 / 110 · **Juz:** 16 · **Mushaf page:** 303 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-kahf/verse-102 ## Arabic اَفَحَسِبَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اَنْ يَتَّخِذُوا عِبَاد۪ي مِنْ دُون۪ٓي اَوْلِيَٓاءَۜ اِنَّٓا اَعْتَدْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَافِر۪ينَ نُزُلاً ## Transcription Afahasiba allatheena kafarooan yattakhithoo AAibadee min doonee awliyaainna aAAtadna jahannama lilkafireena nuzula ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Do those who are kafir imagine that they can take My slaves as protectors instead of Me? We have prepared Hell as hospitality for the kuffar! ### Progressive Muslims Did those who reject think that they can take My servants as allies besides Me We have prepared Hell for the rejecters as a dwelling place. ### Shabbir Ahmed Do the disbelievers in My Reminder think that they can choose my servants as allies besides Me? Verily, We have readied hell as a welcome for the disbelievers. Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging. ### Muhammad Asad Do they who are bent on denying the truth think, perchance, that they could take [any of] My creatures for protectors against Me? Verily, We have readied hell to welcome all who [thus] deny the truth! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Do the disbelievers reckon that they can choose My bondmen as protecting friends beside Me? Lo! We have prepared hell as a welcome for the disbelievers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Do the unbelievers,[1] then, believe that they can take any of My creatures as their guardians beside Me?[2] Verily We have prepared Hell to welcome the unbelievers. _Footnotes_ - [1] This is the conclusion of the whole Surah and is not connected with the story of Zul-Qarnain only but with the subject matter of this Surah as a whole. That theme was enunciated at the beginning of the (Surah Ayats 1-8): The Prophet (peace be upon him) invited his people. (1) To give up shirk and adopt the doctrine of Tauhid instead. (2) To give up the worship of the world and to believe in the life of the Hereafter. But the chiefs of his people, who were puffed up with their wealth and grandeur, not only rejected his invitation but also persecuted and insulted those righteous people who had accepted his invitation. The discourse deals with the same themes and utilizes in an excellent manner the three stories which were related in answer to the questions put by the opponents of Islam as a test of his Prophethood. - [2] That is, do they still stick to their presumption even after hearing all this and believe that their attitude will be profitable for them? ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Do they -the infidels- think they do better by taking My servants as their tutelary guardians besides Me! Indeed We have prepared Hell and made it ready for the abode of the infidels whom it asserts as its own. ### Bijan Moeinian Do the disbelievers really believe that they can get away with worshipping My servants (the king, the boss, the woman, etc) instead of Me? I have prepared Hell to welcome them. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Do then those who disbelieved think that they can take My slaves [i.e., the angels, Allâh’s Messengers, ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)] as Auliyâ’ (lords, gods, protectors) besides Me? Verily, We have prepared Hell as an entertainment for the disbelievers (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism)[1]. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Do the Unbelievers think that they can take My servants as protectors besides Me? Verily We have prepared Hell for the Unbelievers for (their) entertainment. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Do the disbelievers think they can ˹simply˺ take My servants[1] as lords instead of Me? We have surely prepared Hell as an accommodation for the disbelievers. ### Taqi Usmani Do, then, the disbelievers deem (it fit) that they take My servants as patrons beside Me?
