Surah Al-Jathiyah (Crouching) — سورة الجاثية - **Verse:** 9 / 37 · **Juz:** 25 · **Mushaf page:** 498 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-jathiyah/verse-9 ## Arabic وَاِذَا عَلِمَ مِنْ اٰيَاتِنَا شَيْـٔاًۨ اتَّخَذَهَا هُزُواًۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُه۪ينٌۜ ## Transcription Wa-itha AAalima min ayatinashay-an ittakhathaha huzuwan ola-ika lahumAAathabun muheen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When he does learn something of Our Signs, he makes a mockery of them. Such people will have a humiliating punishment. ### Progressive Muslims And if he learns anything from Our revelations, he makes fun of them. For these will be a humiliating retribution. ### Shabbir Ahmed For when he learns anything of Our Verses, he belittles them. For such there is a shameful doom. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Whenever he comes to know anything of Our Signs, he makes them an object of jest.[1] For such there awaits a humiliating chastisement. _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, he does not rest content with mocking any one particular revelation, but mocks all the revelations. For example, when he hears that a particular thing has been mentioned in the Quran, he does not take it in its straightforward meaning, but first puts a crooked meaning on it in order to make it a subject of ridicule and mockery, then after making fun of it, says: These are strange things: one daily hears one or the other funny thing from them. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And when he -this wicked- commits to memory any of our revelations or hears of any of our signs demonstrating Omnipotence and Authority, he turns them into ridicule, and his vanity blows malicious mockery. Such persons are incensed with multiple wrongs; they shall suffer multiple humiliations and a mortifying punishment. ### Bijan Moeinian Those people who listen to God’s word and then make a mockery will be severely punished. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And when he learns something of Our Verses (this Qur’ân), he makes them a jest.
