Surah Al-Jathiyah (Crouching) — سورة الجاثية - **Verse:** 35 / 37 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 501 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-jathiyah/verse-35 ## Arabic ذٰلِكُمْ بِاَنَّكُمُ اتَّخَذْتُمْ اٰيَاتِ اللّٰهِ هُزُواً وَغَرَّتْكُمُ الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَاۚ فَالْيَوْمَ لَا يُخْرَجُونَ مِنْهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ ## Transcription Thalikum bi-annakumu ittakhathtumayati Allahi huzuwan wagharratkumu alhayatuaddunya falyawma la yukhrajoonaminha wala hum yustaAAtaboon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley That is because you made a mockery of Allah’s Signs and the life of the dunya deluded you. ’ Therefore, today they will not get out of it. They will not be able to appease Allah. ### Progressive Muslims "This is because you took God's revelations in mockery, and you were deceived by the worldly life. " So from this Day, they will never exit therefrom, nor will they be excused. ### Shabbir Ahmed This, because you ridiculed Allah's Messages, having allowed the life of the world to deceive you. " This Day, therefore, they will not be taken out, nor can they make amends. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation “That is because you took the proofs of God in mockery, and the life of this world deluded you.” So, that day, they will not be brought forth therefrom, nor will they be allowed to make amends. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation "This is because you took the revelations of God in mockery, and you were deceived by the worldly life." So from this Day, they will never exit therefrom, nor will they be excused. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament "This is because you took GOD's revelations in vain, and were preoccupied with the first life." Consequently, they will never exit therefrom, nor will they be excused. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira This because you laughed at God's revelations and were taken in by the life of the world. " So they will neither be taken out of it, nor will be asked to seek God's favour on that day. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) That is because you took the verses of Allah in ridicule, and worldly life deluded you. " So that Day they will not be removed from it, nor will they be asked to appease [ Allah ]. ### Muhammad Asad this, because you made God’s messages the target of your mockery, having allowed the life of this world to beguile you!" On that Day, therefore, they will not be brought out of the fire, nor will they be allowed to make amends. ### Marmaduke Pickthall This, forasmuch as ye made the revelations of Allah a jest, and the life of the world beguiled you. Therefor this day they come not forth from thence, nor can they make amends. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary You reached this end because you made Allah's Signs an object of jest and the life of the world deluded you." So they shall not be taken out of the Fire nor shall they be asked to make amends (and thus please their Lord).[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This last sentence depicts the manner of a master who after rebuking some of his servants turns to others and says: Well, these wretched people now deserve such and such punishment! ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab "A penalty imposed on you people in the train of blowing malicious mockery at Allah's revelations and signs which demonstrated Omnipotence and Authority, and you were also deceived by the sensuous enjoyment you regarded as the chief object of life". Therefore, now such persons will not be delivered out of it nor will they be reproached. ### Bijan Moeinian "This is because you took the word of God lightly and were too involved with the worldly affairs. " They will never get out of the Hell and their excuses will not heard. ### Al-Hilali & Khan This, because you took the revelations of Allâh (this Qur’ân) in mockery, and the life of the world deceived you. So this Day, they shall not be taken out from there (Hell),[1] nor shall they be returned to the worldly life, (so that they repent to Allâh, and beg His Pardon for their sins). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali "This, because ye used to take the Signs of Allah in jest, and the life of the world deceived you:" (From) that Day, therefore, they shall not be taken out thence, nor shall they be received into Grace. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran This is because you made a mockery of Allah’s revelations, and were deluded by ˹your˺ worldly life." So ˹from˺ that Day ˹on˺ they will not be taken out of the Fire, nor will they be allowed to appease ˹their Lord˺. ### Taqi Usmani That is because you took Allah’s verses as a laughing stock, and the worldly life deceived you." So today they will neither be brought out of it, nor will they be asked to repent. ### Abdul Haleem because you received God’s revelations with ridicule and were deceived by worldly life.’ They will not be brought out of the Fire on that Day, nor will they be given the chance to make amends. ### Arthur John Arberry That is for that you took God's signs in mockery, and the present life deluded you. ' So today they shall not be brought forth from it, nor will they be suffered to make amends. ### E. Henry Palmer That is because ye took the signs of God for a jest and the life of this world deceived you; wherefore today ye shall not be brought forth therefrom, neither shall ye be taken back into favour. " So on that Day they shall not be brought forth from it, nor shall they be granted Grace. ### Mahmoud Ghali That (Literally: Those (conseguences) is for that you took to yourselves the signs of Allah in mockery, and the present life (Literally: the lowly life, i. e., the life of this world) deluded you." So today they will not be brought out of it, nor will they be allowed to make amends. ### George Sale This shall ye suffer, because ye turned the signs of God to ridicule; and the life of the world deceived you.
