Surah Al-Jathiyah (Crouching) — سورة الجاثية - **Verse:** 18 / 37 · **Juz:** 25 · **Mushaf page:** 499 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-jathiyah/verse-18 ## Arabic ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاكَ عَلٰى شَر۪يعَةٍ مِنَ الْاَمْرِ فَاتَّبِعْهَا وَلَا تَتَّبِـعْ اَهْوَٓاءَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ## Transcription Thumma jaAAalnaka AAalashareeAAatin mina al-amri fattabiAAha walatattabiAA ahwaa allatheena la yaAAlamoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Then We placed you on the right road of Our Command, so follow it. Do not follow the whims and desires of those who do not know. ### Progressive Muslims Then We have established you on the correct path; so follow it and do not follow the desires of those who do not know. ### Shabbir Ahmed And now We have appointed you (O Messenger) on the Right Way. So follow it, and yield not to the whims of the ignorant. (42:13). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Then set We thee upon a way of the command; follow thou it, and follow thou not the vain desires of those who know not; ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Then We have established you on the path of things; so follow it and do not follow the desires of those who do not know. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament We then appointed you to establish the correct laws; you shall follow this, and do not follow the wishes of those who do not know. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira We have put you on the right way in the matter (of divine law). So follow it, and do not follow the wishes of those who are ignorant. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Then We put you, [O Muúammad], on an ordained way concerning the matter [of religion]; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know. ### Muhammad Asad And, finally, [O Muhammad,] We have set thee on a way by which the purpose [of faith] may be fulfilled: so follow thou this [way], and follow not the likes and dislikes of those who do not know [the truth]. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And now have We set thee (O Muhammad) on a clear road of (Our) commandment; so follow it, and follow not the whims of those who know not. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And then We set you, (O Prophet), on a clear high road in religious matters.[1] So follow that and do not follow the desires of those who do not know. _Footnotes_ - [1] It means: The mission that had been entrusted to the children of Israel before you has now been entrusted to you. They, in spite of receiving knowledge, created such differences in religion out of selfish motives and stirred up such divisions among themselves that they became disqualified to call the people to God’s way. Now you have been set upon the clear pathway of religion so that you may perform the service which the children of Israel have failed to perform and became disqualified to perform it. (For further explanation, see (Ash-Shura, Ayats 13-15 and E.Ns 20 to 26). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Then We determined for you O Muhammad the statute, the perfect exemplar of excellence, the statute which We ordained for the Messengers before you. So, act upon it and in accordance with it and do not gratify those who knowingly deviate from the path of righteousness, nor act upon their desires. ### Bijan Moeinian Now I am passing the law to you. Follow it and do not follow the laws of the others who [in spite of all their claims] do not have [God’s] knowledge. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Then We have put you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) on a (plain) way of (Our) commandment [like the one which We commanded Our Messengers before you (i.e. legal ways and laws of the Islâmic Monotheism)]. So follow you that (Islâmic Monotheism and its laws), and follow not the desires of those who know not. (Tafsir At-Tabarî). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Then We put thee on the (right) Way of Religion: so follow thou that (Way), and follow not the desires of those who know not. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Now We have set you ˹O Prophet˺ on the ˹clear˺ Way of faith.
