Surah Al-Isra (The Night Journey) — سورة الإسراء - **Verse:** 82 / 111 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 289 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-isra/verse-82 ## Arabic وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْاٰنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَٓاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۙ وَلَا يَز۪يدُ الظَّالِم۪ينَ اِلَّا خَسَاراً ## Transcription Wanunazzilu mina alqur-ani mahuwa shifaon warahmatun lilmu/mineena walayazeedu aththalimeena illakhasara ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We send down in the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to the muminun, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss. ### Progressive Muslims And We send down from the Quran what is a healing and mercy to the believers. And it only increases the wicked in their loss. ### Shabbir Ahmed Thus, step by step, We have sent down in the Qur'an the cure of all ills of humanity. It is a Mercy for those who accept it. At the same time, it only increases the wickedness of the transgressors. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira What We have sent down of the Qur'an is a healing and a grace for the faithful, and adds only loss for the sinners. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. ### Muhammad Asad THUS, step by step, We bestow from on high through this Qur'an all that gives health [to the spirit] and is a grace unto those who believe [in Us], the while it only adds to the ruin of evildoers: ### Marmaduke Pickthall And We reveal of the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy for believers though it increase the evil-doers in naught save ruin. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary What We are sending down in the course of revealing the Qur'an is a healing and a grace for those who have faith; but it adds only to the ruin of the wrong-doers.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, those people who make the Quran their guide and their book of law, are favored with the blessing of Allah and are cured of all their mental, psychological, moral and cultural diseases. On the other hand, those wicked people who reject this and turn their back on its guidance, in fact, are unjust to themselves. Therefore, the Quran does not allow them to remain even in that bad condition in which they were before its revelation or its knowledge but involves them in a greater loss than before. This is because before the revelation of the Quran or their acquaintance with it, they suffered from ignorance alone but when the Quran came before them and made distinct the difference between truth and falsehood, no excuse was left with them to remain in their previous condition of ignorance. After this, if they reject its guidance and persist in their deviation, it is a clear proof that they are not ignorant but workers of iniquity and worshipers of falsehood, which are averse to the truth. For then their position is of the one who, when presented both poison and elixir, makes a choice of poison. Therefore, they themselves are in that cast fully responsible for their deviation and whatever crimes they commit after that, shall incur their full punishment. It is obvious that the consequent loss of wickedness must be far greater than the loss of ignorance. The Prophet (peace be upon him) has summed this up in this concise and comprehensive sentence: The Quran is either an argument in your favor or against you. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And We have send down, from the realm of heaven, of the Quran what serves as a remedy and a mercy to those whose hearts reflect the image of religious and spiritual virtues whereas it adds to the detriment of the wrongful of actions. ### Bijan Moeinian Send this Qur’an as a mercy and a mean of healing (mental, psychological, moral and cultural diseases) for the believers. As for the disbelievers, it brings their worse out (as they confront the truth.) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And We send down of the Qur’ân that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) nothing but loss. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss. ### Taqi Usmani We reveal the Qur’ān, which is cure and mercy for the believers; and it adds nothing to the unjust but loss. ### Abdul Haleem We send down the Quran as healing and mercy to those who believe; as for those who disbelieve, it only increases their loss. ### Arthur John Arberry And We send down, of the Koran, that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers; and the unbelievers it increases not, except in loss. ### E.
