Surah Al-Isra (The Night Journey) — سورة الإسراء - **Verse:** 70 / 111 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 288 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-isra/verse-70 ## Arabic وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَن۪ٓي اٰدَمَ وَحَمَلْنَاهُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْ عَلٰى كَث۪يرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْض۪يلاً۟ ## Transcription Walaqad karramna banee adamawahamalnahum fee albarri walbahriwarazaqnahum mina attayyibati wafaddalnahumAAala katheerin mimman khalaqna tafdeela ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We have honoured the sons of Adam and conveyed them on land and sea and provided them with good things and favoured them greatly over many We have created. ### Progressive Muslims And We have honoured the Children of Adam and carried them in the land and the sea, and We have provided for them of the good things, and We have preferred them over many of those We created in a marked preference. ### Shabbir Ahmed Now indeed, We have conferred dignity on the children of Adam (as a birth right, regardless of where the child is born). And provided them with transport on land and sea and given them decent things of life. We carry them on the land and the sea, and have made provision of good things for them, and have preferred them above many of those whom We created with a marked preferment. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Indeed, We honoured the progeny of Adam, and bore them across land and sea and provided them with good things for their sustenance, and exalted them above many of Our creatures.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, it is an obvious fact that the superiority man enjoys over all other beings on the earth and all that is in it, has not been bestowed upon him by a jinn or an angel or a prophet. Most surely that is Allah’s blessing and favor. Is it not then the height of folly and ignorance that after having achieved such a high rank, man should bow down before any creature of Allah instead of Him? ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We have honoured the Adamites and We provided them with means of transportation to carry them on land and at sea and We provisioned them with the good wholesome victuals and We placed them in a class distinctly above many of Our creatures and We ascribed to them distinguished attributes.
