Surah Al-Isra (The Night Journey) — سورة الإسراء - **Verse:** 64 / 111 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 287 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-isra/verse-64 ## Arabic وَاسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُمْ بِصَوْتِكَ وَاَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِمْ بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجِلِكَ وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِي الْاَمْوَالِ وَالْاَوْلَادِ وَعِدْهُمْۜ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ اِلَّا غُرُوراً ## Transcription Wastafziz mani istataAAtaminhum bisawtika waajlib AAalayhim bikhaylika warajlikawasharik-hum fee al-amwali wal-awladiwaAAidhum wama yaAAiduhumu ashshaytanu illaghuroora ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Stir up any of them you can with your voice and rally against them your cavalry and your infantry and share with them in their children and their wealth and make them promises! The promise of Shaytan is nothing but delusion. ### Progressive Muslims "And entice whoever you can of them with your voice, and mobilize all your forces and men against them, and you may share with them in their money and children, and promise them. Satan promiseth them only to deceive. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Tempt with your call all whom you wish.[1] Muster against them all your forces - your cavalry and your foot soldiers;[2] share with them riches and offspring,[3] and seduce them with rosy promises - and Satan's promise is nothing but a deception[4] - _Footnotes_ - [1] The literal meaning of the Arabic text is: You may sweep away those whom you find superficial and weak minded. - [2] Here, Satan has been likened to that robber who assaults a habitation with cavalry and infantry and orders them to rob. The cavalry and the infantry of Satan are those jinns and human beings who are engaged in numerous forms and positions in carrying out his mission. - [3] This is a very meaningful sentence which depicts a true and perfect picture of the relationship between Satan and his followers. On the one hand, Satan becomes a partner with the one who follows him in the earning and spending of his money without putting in any labor in it. On the other hand, he does not become a partner in bearing the consequences of his error, crime and sin. But his foolish dupe follows his instructions as if he were a partner, nay, a stronger party. Again in regard to the children of such a man, the father himself bears the whole burden of bringing them up, but under the misguidance of Satan he trains them in wrong and unmoral ways as if he alone was not their father but Satan as well was a partner in it. - [4] Satan entices them with false promises of success and entangles them in the snare of false expectations. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab "Entice those of them whom you can allure to brighter worlds with your whispering voice and assault them by any manner of means, be it cavalry or infantry or any other means, and go shares with them in their ill-gotten gains and in their illegitimate children, and give them fair words and large promises to fair the foul and to arouse in them vain desires. In effect what AL-Shaytan promises them is only what is vain, deceptive and deluding". ### Bijan Moeinian "You have my permission to entice them with your voice, mobilize your military forces against them (read the history and see how many evil military forces have made the man’s life miserable), become a partner with them in their wealth and children and (above all) make all kind of promises to them.
