Surah Al-Isra (The Night Journey) — سورة الإسراء - **Verse:** 6 / 111 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 281 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-isra/verse-6 ## Arabic ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ الْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاَمْدَدْنَاكُمْ بِاَمْوَالٍ وَبَن۪ينَ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ اَكْثَرَ نَف۪يراً ## Transcription Thumma radadna lakumu alkarrataAAalayhim waamdadnakum bi-amwalin wabaneenawajaAAalnakum akthara nafeera ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Then once again We gave you the upper hand over them and supplied you with more wealth and children and made you the most numerous group. ### Progressive Muslims Then We gave back to you your independence from them, and We supplied you with wealth and children, and We made you more influential. ### Shabbir Ahmed Then, We granted you victory over them (when King Cyrus of Persia defeated the Babylonians and brought you back to your country in 520 B. C.). And We reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpower ### Muhammad Asad And after a time We allowed you to prevail against them once again, and aided you with wealth and offspring, and made you more numerous [than ever]. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Then we gave you once again your turn against them, and We aided you with wealth and children and made you more in soldiery. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Then We granted you an upper hand against them, and strengthened you with wealth and children, and multiplied your numbers.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This refers to the lease of time that the Israelites (That is the people of Judah) got after their release from the captivity of Babylon. As for the people of Israel and Samaria, they did not rise again after their moral and spiritual degeneration. But among the people of Judah there still were some people who practiced the truth and invited others also to follow it. They carried on their work of invitation to the truth among the remaining Israelites in Judah and also exhorted those who had been driven out into Babylon and other lands to repent and follow the truth. At last the mercy of Allah came to their help. The downfall of Babylon started. The Persian king, Cyrus, took Babylon in 539 B.C. and in the following year issued a decree allowing the Israelites to return to and resettle in their homeland. The Israelites began to return home in caravan after caravan, and this continued for a long time. Cyrus also allowed the Israelites to rebuild the Temple of Solomon but the neighboring communities who had settled in this land resisted it. At last Darfius appointed Zerubbabel, a grandson of the last king of Judah as the governor of Judah in 522 B.C., who got the Temple rebuilt under the care of Prophet Haggai, Prophet Zechariah and Joshua. In 458 B.C. Ezra arrived in Judah along with an exiled group and the Persian king Artaxerxes made the following decree: ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab When the conquerors abounded in self - conceit and you humbled yourselves to Allah We gave you mastery over them and We made you abound more in numerosity ### Bijan Moeinian Afterwards, I gave you the victory over them and showered you with wealth and children and increased the population of your nation. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Then We gave you a return of victory over them. And We helped you with wealth and children and made you more numerous in man-power. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Then did We grant you the Return as against them: We gave you increase in resources and sons, and made you the more numerous in man-power. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Then ˹after your repentance˺ We would give you the upper hand over them and aid you with wealth and offspring, causing you to outnumber them. ### Taqi Usmani Then We gave you your turn to overpower them, and increased your strength with wealth and sons, and made you greater in number, ### Abdul Haleem but then We allowed you to prevail against your enemy.
