Surah Al-Isra (The Night Journey) — سورة الإسراء - **Verse:** 53 / 111 · **Juz:** 15 · **Mushaf page:** 286 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-isra/verse-53 ## Arabic وَقُلْ لِعِبَاد۪ي يَقُولُوا الَّت۪ي هِيَ اَحْسَنُۜ اِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنْزَغُ بَيْنَهُمْۜ اِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ كَانَ لِلْاِنْسَانِ عَدُواًّ مُب۪يناً ## Transcription Waqul liAAibadee yaqooloo allateehiya ahsanu inna ashshaytana yanzaghubaynahum inna ashshaytana kana lil-insaniAAaduwwan mubeena ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Say to My slaves that they should only say the best. Shaytan wants to stir up trouble between them. Shaytan is an outright enemy to man. ### Progressive Muslims And say to My servants to speak that which is best. The devil plants animosity between them. Lo! the devil is for man an open foe. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Tell My servants,[1] (O Muhammad), to say always that which is best.[2] Verily it is Satan who sows discord among people. Satan indeed is an open enemy to mankind.[3] _Footnotes_ - [1] The believers. - [2] The believers have been enjoined to say only the best things even in their discussion with the disbelievers and other opponents of their faith. They should neither use harsh words nor make exaggerated statements. They should be cool in their conversation and say only what is true and dignified in spite of the provoking behavior of the opponents. - [3] The believers have been forewarned to guard against the provocations of Satan, as if to say: While answering your opponents, if you feel that you are being aroused to anger, you should at once understand that it is Satan who is exciting you in order to do harm to your dispute, in which he wants to engage human beings for sowing discord between them. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Tell My servants O Muhammad who declare or state in words a specified fact, thought, opinion or intention, an event or a remark or the like to say what is friendly, favourable and laudatory and to keep a civil tongue in their heads, for AL-Shaytan is on the alert for an occasion to divide mankind and set them at variance and to stir up enmity among them. Indeed AL-Shaytan has always been to man an avowed enemy. ### Bijan Moeinian Tell My servants (the believers) to exchange the kindest words among themselves as Satan is waiting to create disagreement among them. Never forget that Satan is the man’s worse enemy. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islâmic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are the best. (Because) Shaitân (Satan) verily, sows a state of conflict and disagreements among them.
