" ### Shabbir Ahmed Say, "If there were any other deities side by side with Him, as they claim, even those would have to find a way unto the Lord of the Throne of Almightiness. " ### Muhammad Asad Say: "If there were-as some people assert [other] deities side by side with Him, surely [even] they would have to strive to find a way unto Him who is enthroned on His almightiness?" ### Marmaduke Pickthall Say (O Muhammad, to the disbelievers): If there were other gods along with Him, as they say, then had they sought a way against the Lord of the Throne. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Say, (O Muhammad): "Had there been other gods with Him, as they claim, they would surely have attempted to find a way to the Lord of the Throne.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, they would have themselves tried their best to become masters of the Throne. This is because if there had been more than one partners in Godhead, it would produce one of the two results: (1) If they were all independent gods, it was not conceivable that they would agree and cooperate with one another in the management of the boundless universe and there could never have been unanimity, uniformity and balanced proportion in its functioning. There would have been conflict at every step and everyone would have tried to dominate others in order to become its sole master. or (2) if one of them had been the supreme god and the others his obedient servants whom he had delegated some of his powers, then, according to the maxim "power corrupts", they would never have been content with remaining obedient servants of the supreme god and would have conspired to become the supreme god themselves. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Say to them: If indeed He had, as they say, associate deities who share His divine nature, His Omnipotence and His Authority, then they would have certainly sought out a way to expropriate Him of His throne, His rights and His Exclusive Authority. ### Bijan Moeinian Say: "If there were any other gods beside Him (as they claim), those gods would have tried [long time ago] to overthrow the Lord of the Throne. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم to these polytheists, pagans): "If there had been other âlihah (gods) along with Him as they assert, then they would certainly have sought out a way to the Lord of the Throne (seeking His Pleasures and to be near to Him). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Say: If there had been (other) gods with Him, as they say,- behold, they would certainly have sought out a way to the Lord of the Throne! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ "Had there been other gods besides Him—as they claim—then they would have certainly sought a way to ˹challenge˺ the Lord of the Throne." ### Taqi Usmani Say, "Had there been other gods along with Him", as they say, “then they would have found out a way to the Lord of the Throne”. ### Abdul Haleem Say, ‘If there were other gods along with Him, as they say there are, then they would have tried to find a way to the Lord of the Throne.’ ### Arthur John Arberry Say: 'If there had been other gods with Him, as they say, in that case assuredly they would have sought a way unto the Lord of the Throne.
