# 76. Surah Al-Insan

_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

هَلْ اَتٰى عَلَى الْاِنْسَانِ ح۪ينٌ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْـٔاً مَذْكُوراً

Hal ata AAala al-insani heenunmina addahri lam yakun shay-an mathkoora

Has there come upon man a period of time he was not a thing remembered?

## Verse 2

اِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ  اَمْشَاجٍۗ  نَبْتَل۪يهِ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ سَم۪يعاً بَص۪يراً

Inna khalaqna al-insanamin nutfatin amshajin nabtaleehi fajaAAalnahusameeAAan baseera

We created man from a sperm-drop — a mingling — that We might test him; and We made him hearing and seeing.

## Verse 3

اِنَّا هَدَيْنَاهُ السَّب۪يلَ اِمَّا شَا‌كِراً وَاِمَّا كَفُوراً

Inna hadaynahu assabeelaimma shakiran wa-imma kafoora

We guided him on the path, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.

## Verse 4

اِنَّٓا اَعْتَدْنَا لِلْـكَافِر۪ينَ سَلَاسِلَا۬ وَاَغْلَالاً وَسَع۪يراً

Inna aAAtadna lilkafireenasalasila waaghlalan wasaAAeera

We have prepared for the false claimers of guidance chains and yokes and an inferno.

## Verse 5

اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِنْ كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُوراًۚ

Inna al-abrara yashraboona min ka/sinkana mizajuha kafoora

The virtuous will drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of camphor,

## Verse 6

عَيْناً يَشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ اللّٰهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفْج۪يراً

AAaynan yashrabu biha AAibaduAllahi yufajjiroonaha tafjeera

A spring whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth abundantly:

## Verse 7

يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْماً كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَط۪يراً

Yoofoona binnathri wayakhafoonayawman kana sharruhu mustateera

They fulfil the vow, and fear a day the evil of which will be widespread,

## Verse 8

وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلٰى حُبِّه۪ مِسْك۪يناً وَيَت۪يماً وَاَس۪يراً

WayutAAimona attaAAamaAAala hubbihi miskeenan wayateeman waaseera

And give food for love of Him to the needy, and the fatherless, and the prisoner,

## Verse 9

اِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللّٰهِ لَا نُر۪يدُ مِنْكُمْ جَزَٓاءً وَلَا شُكُوراً

Innama nutAAimukum liwajhi Allahila nureedu minkum jazaan wala shukoora

(“We feed you only for the face of God; we desire from you no reward or gratitude;

## Verse 10

اِنَّا نَخَافُ مِنْ رَبِّنَا يَوْماً عَبُوساً قَمْطَر۪يراً

Inna nakhafu min rabbinayawman AAaboosan qamtareera

“We fear from our Lord a stern and calamitous day.”)

## Verse 11

فَوَقٰيهُمُ اللّٰهُ شَرَّ ذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَلَقّٰيهُمْ نَضْرَةً وَسُرُوراًۚ

Fawaqahumu Allahu sharra thalikaalyawmi walaqqahum nadratan wasuroora

So God protected them from the evil of that day, and granted them radiance and happiness,

## Verse 12

وَجَزٰيهُمْ بِمَا صَبَرُوا جَنَّةً وَحَر۪يراًۙ

Wajazahum bima sabaroojannatan wahareera

And rewarded them for their patience with a Garden and silk;

## Verse 13

مُتَّكِـ۪ٔينَ ف۪يهَا عَلَى الْاَرَٓائِكِۚ لَا يَرَوْنَ ف۪يهَا شَمْساً وَلَا زَمْهَر۪يراًۚ

Muttaki-eena feeha AAala al-ara-ikila yarawna feeha shamsan wala zamhareera

Reclining therein upon couches; they will see therein neither sun nor biting cold;

## Verse 14

وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيْهِمْ ظِلَالُهَا وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُهَا تَذْل۪يلاً

Wadaniyatan AAalayhim thilaluhawathullilat qutoofuha tathleela

And near above them will be the shade thereof, and the fruits thereof lowered in meekness.

## Verse 15

وَيُطَافُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِاٰنِيَةٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَاَكْوَابٍ كَانَتْ قَوَار۪يرَاۙ

Wayutafu AAalayhim bi-aniyatinmin fiddatin waakwabin kanat qawareera

Circulated among them will be vessels of silver, and cups as of crystal!

## Verse 16

قَوَار۪يرَ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقْد۪يراً

Qawareera min fiddatinqaddarooha taqdeera

Crystal of silver, that they determined exactly.

## Verse 17

وَيُسْقَوْنَ ف۪يهَا كَأْساً كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنْجَب۪يلاًۚ

Wayusqawna feeha ka/san kanamizajuha zanjabeela

And they will be given to drink therein a cup whereof the mixture is of ginger,

## Verse 18

عَيْناً ف۪يهَا تُسَمّٰى سَلْسَب۪يلاً

AAaynan feeha tusammasalsabeela

From a spring therein named Salsabīl.

## Verse 19

وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَۚ اِذَا رَاَيْتَهُمْ حَسِبْتَهُمْ لُؤْلُؤ۬اً مَنْثُوراً

Wayatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoona itha raaytahum hasibtahum lu/lu-anmanthoora

And there will circulate among them youths made eternal; when thou seest them, thou thinkest them scattered pearls.

## Verse 20

وَاِذَا رَاَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَاَيْتَ نَع۪يماً وَمُلْـكاً كَب۪يراً

Wa-itha raayta thamma raaytanaAAeeman wamulkan kabeera

And when thou seest there, thou seest bliss and great dominion: —

## Verse 21

عَالِيَهُمْ ثِيَابُ سُنْدُسٍ خُضْرٌ وَاِسْتَبْرَقٌۘ وَحُلُّٓوا اَسَاوِرَ مِنْ فِضَّةٍۚ وَسَقٰيهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ شَرَاباً طَهُوراً

AAaliyahum thiyabu sundusinkhudrun wa-istabraqun wahulloo asawira minfiddatin wasaqahum rabbuhum sharaban tahoora

Upon them garments of fine green silk and brocade, and they adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord giving them to drink a purifying draught:

## Verse 22

اِنَّ هٰذَا كَانَ لَـكُمْ جَزَٓاءً وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُمْ مَشْكُوراً۟

Inna hatha kana lakum jazaanwakana saAAyukum mashkoora

“This is for you a reward, and your effort is appreciated.”

## Verse 23

اِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْاٰنَ تَنْز۪يلاًۚ

Inna nahnu nazzalnaAAalayka alqur-ana tanzeela

We have sent down upon thee the Qur’an in a successive revelation,

## Verse 24

فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعْ مِنْهُمْ اٰثِماً اَوْ كَفُوراًۚ

Fasbir lihukmi rabbikawala tutiAA minhum athiman aw kafoora

So be thou patient for the judgment of thy Lord, and obey thou not among them a sinner or an ingrate;

## Verse 25

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ بُكْرَةً وَاَص۪يلاًۚ

Wathkuri isma rabbikabukratan waaseela

And remember thou the name of thy Lord morning and evening.

## Verse 26

وَمِنَ الَّيْلِ فَاسْجُدْ لَهُ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلاً طَو۪يلاً

Wamina allayli fasjud lahu wasabbihhulaylan taweela

And part of the night, submit thou to Him — and glorify thou Him the long night.

## Verse 27

اِنَّ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ يُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَٓاءَهُمْ يَوْماً ثَق۪يلاً

Inna haola-i yuhibboonaalAAajilata wayatharoona waraahum yawmanthaqeela

These love the immediate, and leave behind them a burdensome day.

## Verse 28

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَٓا اَسْرَهُمْۚ وَاِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْـنَٓا اَمْثَالَهُمْ تَبْد۪يلاً

Nahnu khalaqnahum washadadnaasrahum wa-itha shi/na baddalna amthalahumtabdeela

We created them, and strengthened their form and, when We will, We will change their likenesses completely.

## Verse 29

اِنَّ هٰذِه۪ تَذْكِرَةٌۚ فَمَنْ شَٓاءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰى رَبِّه۪ سَب۪يلاً

Inna hathihi tathkiratun famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeela

This is a reminder, so whoso wills may take to his Lord a path.

## Verse 30

وَمَا تَشَٓاؤُ۫نَ اِلَّٓا اَنْ يَشَٓاءَ اللّٰهُۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ  كَانَ عَل۪يماً حَك۪يماًۗ

Wama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu inna Allaha kanaAAaleeman hakeema

And you will not save that God wills; God is knowing and wise.

## Verse 31

يُدْخِلُ مَنْ يَشَٓاءُ ف۪ي رَحْمَتِه۪ۜ وَالظَّالِم۪ينَ اَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَاباً اَل۪يماً

Yudkhilu man yashao fee rahmatihiwaththalimeena aAAadda lahum AAathabanaleema

He makes enter whom He wills into His mercy; and for the wrongdoers has He prepared a painful punishment.
