Surah Al-Hijr (The Rock) — سورة الحجر - **Verse:** 85 / 99 · **Juz:** 14 · **Mushaf page:** 265 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hijr/verse-85 ## Arabic وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَٓا اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّۜ وَاِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَاٰتِيَةٌ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَم۪يلَ ## Transcription Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma illabilhaqqi wa-inna assaAAata laatiyatunfasfahi assafhaaljameel ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We did not create the heavens and earth and everything between them, except with truth. The Hour is certainly coming, so turn away graciously. ### Progressive Muslims And We have not created the heavens and the Earth and what is in between except with the truth. And the Hour is coming, so overlook their faults gracefully. ### Shabbir Ahmed Remember, We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, without Purpose. (Nations that do not fit themselves in the Divine Plan get wiped out. So shall happen to your people, (O Prophet), if they do not mend their ways). Behold, the Hour is surely coming (when you shall be victorious). So overlook their faults, and forgive them graciously. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness. ### Muhammad Asad AND [remember:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth; but, behold, the Hour [when this will become clear to all] is indeed yet to come. Hence, forgive [men's failings] with fair forbearance: ### Marmaduke Pickthall We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with truth, and lo! the Hour is surely coming. So forgive, (O Muhammad), with a gracious forgiveness. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is in between them except with Truth.[1] Surely the Hour will come. So, (O Muhammad), do graciously overlook them (despite their misdeeds). _Footnotes_ - [1] This was to reassure the Prophet (peace be upon him) that ultimately he would come out successful because he was propagating the truth, and the entire universe was based on truth. Such an assurance was urgently needed because at that time falsehood appeared to be triumphant over the truth. This implies: O Prophet, do not worry at all at the apparent success of falsehood for this is temporary. Likewise the difficulties, the obstacles and the troubles in the way of truth are not permanent. Take courage, and have confidence in the cause of the truth and you will triumph over falsehood because the whole system of the universe is akin to truth and averse to falsehood. Therefore, truth is permanent and falsehood is perishable. Refer to (E.Ns 25-26, 35-39 of Surah Ibrahim). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Nor did We create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them but in accordance with reason and truth and for just ends. And the Final predetermined Hour is inevitably coming, therefore, forgive O Muhammad your opponent's human instability with gracious intent. ### Bijan Moeinian I have created the heavens, the earth, and whatever is between not for fun. Know that the end of the world will come. Therefore, graciously forgive their ignorance (and continue spreading the word.) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except with truth, and the Hour is surely coming, so overlook (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) their faults with gracious forgiveness. [This was before the ordainment of Jihâd - holy fighting in Allâh’s cause]. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We have not created the heavens and the earth and everything in between except for a purpose.
