Surah Al-Hijr (The Rock) — سورة الحجر - **Verse:** 39 / 99 · **Juz:** 14 · **Mushaf page:** 263 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hijr/verse-39 ## Arabic قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَٓا اَغْوَيْتَن۪ي لَاُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَلَاُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ اَجْمَع۪ينَۙ ## Transcription Qala rabbi bima aghwaytaneelaozayyinanna lahum fee al-ardi walaoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He said, ‘My Lord, because You misled me, I will make things on the earth seem good to them and I will mislead them all, every one of them, ### Progressive Muslims He said: "My Lord, for that which I have been misled by, I will make the Earth appear beautiful for them, and I will mislead them all. " ### Shabbir Ahmed Now Iblis said, "O My Lord! Since You let me go astray, I verily shall make attractive the path of error for them in the earth. In the manner You led me to error, I will make things on earth seem attractive to them[1] and lead all of them to error, _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, thou hast beguiled me by commanding me to bow down before a creature who is inferior to me: for it is obvious that I could not obey such an order. Therefore, I will now beguile them and disobey Thee. In other words, Iblis meant to say: I will make the worldly life, its enjoyments and its transitory benefits so alluring for man that he will forget the responsibilities of the vicegerent of Allah, and that he shall have to render his account in the Hereafter. They will also forget Thee and will disobey Thee, even though they would profess to remember Thee. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab "Now, O Allah", Iblis said, that You have destined me and I have erred, I will entangle them with the bird-lime of fleshy passions, mundane vanity and temporalities and I will entice them all to do evil and I will incite idle men to tempt me to tempt them, ### Bijan Moeinian He said: "My Lord, as you have excluded me from salvation, I will enchant them with their earthly life so much that they are misled into the wrong path.
