Surah Al-Hashr (The Exile) — سورة الحشر - **Verse:** 18 / 24 · **Juz:** 28 · **Mushaf page:** 547 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hashr/verse-18 ## Arabic يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَلْتَنْظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ خَب۪يرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ## Transcription Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooittaqoo Allaha waltanthur nafsun maqaddamat lighadin wattaqoo Allaha inna Allahakhabeerun bima taAAmaloon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley You who have iman! have taqwa of Allah and let each self look to what it has sent forward for Tomorrow. Have taqwa of Allah. Allah is aware of what you do. ### Progressive Muslims O you who believe, be aware of God, and let every soul examine what it has put forth for tomorrow. And be aware of God; God is fully aware of everything you do. ### Shabbir Ahmed O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Be mindful of Allah and watch everyday what you have invested for your 'Self' for tomorrow. Again, remain conscious of the Laws of Allah (today and every day). Remain conscious of God; and let every human being look to what he sends ahead for the morrow! And [once again]: Remain conscious of God, for God is fully aware of all that you do; ### Marmaduke Pickthall O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah. And let every soul look to that which it sendeth on before for the morrow. And observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Believers,[1] fear Allah and let every person look to what he sends forward for the morrow.[2] Fear Allah; Allah is well aware of all that you do. _Footnotes_ - [1] It is a rule of the Quran that whenever the hypocritical Muslims are taken to task for their hypocrisy, they are given admonition also so that whoever of them has some life left in his conscience, may feel remorse for his conduct and attitude and may make an effort, out of the fear of Allah, to come out of the pit into which his worship of the self has thrown him. This whole section (verses 18-24) consists of such admonition. - [2] For tomorrow: for the Hereafter. That is, this whole worldly life is "today", whose “tomorrow” is the Day of Resurrection, which is going to follow it. Adopting this style Allah has, in a wise manner, made man understand the truth that just as that person is highly foolish, who gambles away his all for the enjoyment of today and does not realize whether tomorrow he would be left with anything to eat and a place of shelter or not, so is also that person only working for his own doom, who is too absorbed in making his world to pay heed to the Hereafter, whereas the Hereafter is to follow this world just as today is to be followed by tomorrow, and there he would find nothing if he has sent nothing ahead for the morrow. Besides, the other wise point here is that every person has been appointed his own censor. Unless a person develops in himself the sense of what is good for him and what is evil, he cannot appreciate whether what he is doing will make his future in the Hereafter or mar it. And when this sense becomes active in himself, he will have to calculate and see for himself whether the way in which he is spending his time, his wealth, his energies and capabilities leads to Heaven or Hell. To do so is in his own interest; for if he does not do so he will ruin his own future itself. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab O you whose hearts reflect the Image of religious and spiritual virtues: entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah; every soul should call to memory and ponder what it has advanced of pious deeds toward future security, and regard Allah with breasts filled with reverential awe. Allah is well acquainted with all that you do ### Bijan Moeinian God hereby orders the believers to keep Him always in mind with the utmost respect. Be mindful that whatever (god or bad) that you plant today in this world, you will harvest tomorrow in Hereafter. ### Al-Hilali & Khan O you who believe! Fear Allâh and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what you do.[1] ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what (provision) He has sent forth for the morrow.
