Surah Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) — سورة الحج - **Verse:** 71 / 78 · **Juz:** 17 · **Mushaf page:** 339 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hajj/verse-71 ## Arabic وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِه۪ سُلْطَاناً وَمَا لَيْسَ لَهُمْ بِه۪ عِلْمٌۜ وَمَا لِلظَّالِم۪ينَ مِنْ نَص۪يرٍ ## Transcription WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi malam yunazzil bihi sultanan wama laysa lahum bihiAAilmun wama liththalimeenamin naseer ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They worship besides Allah something for which no authority has come down, something about which they have no knowledge. There is no helper for the wrongdoers. ### Progressive Muslims And they serve besides God what He did not send any authority upon, and what they have no knowledge of. And the wicked will not have any helper. ### Shabbir Ahmed And yet, they (who, seeing His Dominion of the Universe, claim to believe in Him, often) idolize instead of Allah that wherein He has placed no power, and they know nothing about them. (They blindly follow their ancestors' ways (10:39). And there will not be for the wrongdoers any helper. ### Muhammad Asad And yet they [who claim to believe in Him often] worship [other beings or forces] beside God - something for which He has never bestoweed any warrant from on high, and [of the reality] whereof they cannot have any knowledge: and such evildoers shall have none to succour them [on Judgment Day]. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And they worship instead of Allah that for which He hath sent down no warrant, and that whereof they have no knowledge. For evil-doers there is no helper. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Instead of Allah they worship those concerning whom He has revealed no sanction and concerning whom they have no true knowledge.[1] None shall be able to help such evil-doers.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, neither there is any mention of their deities in any revealed Book nor do they have any other source of knowledge about them nor any authority to worship them. Therefore, it is sheer ignorance that they have associated their self invented deities with Allah and worship them, make vows and offer sacrifices to them and supplicate them for their needs etc. - [2] This is to warn the foolish people that they are absolutely wrong in expecting that their deities would help them in this world and in the Hereafter because they have no power to help them. Thus, they will find no helper, for Allah alone could help them and they have already displeased Him by their rebellious behavior. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Yet they worship besides Allah objects He has never authorized and of which they have empty knowledge. And the wrongful of actions shall have no one to afford them help at the moment when they need it most. ### Bijan Moeinian Yet they worship others beside God who do not have the least awareness of being worshipped as God has not given them such capacity. Such unjust people will have no helpers (neither God nor what they are worshipping.) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And they worship besides Allâh others for which He has sent down no authority, and of which they have no knowledge; and for the Zâlimûn (wrong-doers, polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) there is no helper. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Yet they worship, besides Allah, things for which no authority has been sent down to them, and of which they have (really) no knowledge: for those that do wrong there is no helper. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Yet they worship besides Allah that for which He has sent down no authority, and of which they have no knowledge.
