And they shall commemorate Allah's Name collectively during the specified days of Hajj; and over the livestock He has bestowed upon them. Then host one another with the livestock (to make the Congregation self-sufficient in the food resource). Eat and feed the distressed poor (regardless of whether they are in the congregation or elsewhere).

_Footnotes_
- [1] "The benefits" include both religious and worldly benefits. It was due mainly to the Kabah that during the period of 2500 years between the times of Prophet Abraham and the Prophet (peace be upon them), the Arabs, in spite of their tribal life, remained attached to one central place and continued to visit it from all parts of Arabia for performing Hajj year after year. This in turn preserved their language, their culture and their Arab identity. Then during the course of the year they were afforded at least four months of perfect peace when anybody and everybody could safely travel alone or in trade caravans; thus the ritual of Hajj was directly beneficial to economic life of the country as well. For details see(Surah Aal-Imran, Ayat 97 and E.Ns 80, 81) thereof, and (Surah Al-Maidah, Ayat 97 and E.N. 113 )thereof.
- [2] "The cattle" here imply the camel, cow, sheep and goat as has been clearly mentioned in (Surah Al-Anaam, Ayats 142-144), “they should mention the name of Allah over the cattle”, implies that they should slaughter the cattle for Allah’s sake and in His name, as is clear from the subsequent sentences. Allah’s name should be recited at the time the cattle are slaughtered to show that the Muslims are to slaughter and sacrifice animals in Allah’s name alone so as to distinguish them from the disbelievers who slaughtered animals without mentioning Allah’s name or by mentioning other names than that of Allah.
- [3] As regards to "the appointed days", there is a difference of opinion as to their exact identity. Some of the opinions as to what the appointed days mean are.

### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab

"They shall be eager to respond to your call to observe facts and events considered a source of knowledge, and to participate in the intercourse of life and envisage the spiritual and the deeply moving sacred events and associations dating back as the most ancient times. " "And they will extoll and proclaim the glorious attributes of Allah throughout the predetermined days in appreciation of Allah's blessings, and be impelled to the feeling of gratitude and gratefulness for what He provided for them of cattle for sacrifice, and to fulfill what He has enjoined" Thus: "Eat there from if you may and feed the indigent and the needy who are in need of Zakat (alms), " for zakat is but the vehicle of prayer.

### Bijan Moeinian

"Thus, they may go through the experiences that will benefit them (such as standing next to each other in inexpensive uniforms in the middle of the desert which will remind them of standing in front of the Creator in the Day of Judgment. ) They will mention the name of God, while sacrificing an animal that I have provided for them at first place. They may eat from it and feeds the poor who are going through hard time."

### Al-Hilali & Khan

That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allâh on appointed days (i.e. 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah), over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice), [at the time of their slaughtering by saying: (Bismillah, Wallâhu-Akbar, Allâhumma Minka wa Ilaik).] Then eat thereof and feed therewith the poor having a hard time.

### Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"That they may witness the benefits (provided) for them, and celebrate the name of Allah, through the Days appointed, over the cattle which He has provided for them (for sacrifice): then eat ye thereof and feed the distressed ones in want.

### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran

so they may obtain the benefits ˹in store˺ for them,[1] and pronounce the Name of Allah on appointed days over the sacrificial animals He has provided for them. So eat from their meat and feed the desperately poor.

### Taqi Usmani

so that they witness benefits for them, and recite Allah’s name in specified days, over the provision He gave them from the cattle. "So, eat thereof and feed the distressed, the poor."

### Abdul Haleem

to attain benefits and celebrate God’s name, on specified days, over the livestock He has provided for them- feed yourselves and the poor and unfortunate-

### Arthur John Arberry

that they may witness things profitable to them and mention God's Name on days well-known over such beasts of the flocks as He has provided them: "So eat thereof, and feed the wretched poor. "

### E. Henry Palmer

that they may witness advantages for them, and may mention the name of God for the stated days over what God has provided them with of brute beasts, then eat thereof and feed the badly off, the poor.

### Hamid S. Aziz

"And proclaim amongst men the Pilgrimage; they will come to you on foot and on every kind of camel, lean from journeys through distant mountain and deep ravines,

### Mahmoud Ghali

That they may witness (things) profitable to them and mention the Name of Allah on days well-known over such brute cattle as He has provided them. So eat thereof, and feed the miserable poor."

### George Sale

that they may be witnesses of the advantages which accrew to them from the visiting this holy place, and may commemorate the name of God on the appointed days, in gratitude for the brute cattle which He hath bestowed on them. Wherefore eat thereof, and feed the needy, and the poor.

### Syed Vickar Ahamed

"That they may see the rewards for themselves, and celebrate the Name of Allah, through the appointed Days over the (sacrifice of the) cattle which He has provided for them: Then (you) eat from there and feed the poor in need.

### Amatul Rahman Omar

So that they (- the Pilgrims) may witness benefits (that lay therein) for them, and that (at the time of making a sacrifice) on days prescribed they may mention the name of Allâh over the beasts of the family of cattle He has given them. (When you have sacrificed the animal) then eat from this, (flesh of the animal thus sacrificed), yourselves and (also) feed the poor distressed one and the needy (on that).

### Ali Quli Qarai

that they may witness the benefits for them, and mention Allah’s Name during the known days over the livestock He has provided them. So eat thereof, and feed the destitute.
