Surah Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) — سورة الحج - **Verse:** 24 / 78 · **Juz:** 17 · **Mushaf page:** 334 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hajj/verse-24 ## Arabic وَهُدُٓوا اِلَى الطَّيِّبِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِۗ وَهُدُٓوا اِلٰى صِرَاطِ الْحَم۪يدِ ## Transcription Wahudoo ila attayyibimina alqawli wahudoo ila sirati alhameed ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They have been guided to speak good words and guided to the praiseworthy path. ### Progressive Muslims And they are guided to the good sayings, and guided to the path of the Praiseworthy. ### Shabbir Ahmed For they were willing to be guided towards the best concepts and the best ways of expression. Thus they were guided onto the path that leads to the Praised One. (QAUL includes concept and expression). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And they were guided to the good of speech, and were guided to the path of the Praiseworthy. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Andthey are guided to the good sayings, and guided to the path of the Praiseworthy. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament They have been guided to the good words; they have been guided in the path of the Most Praised. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira They will be guided with gentle words, and guided to the commended path. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And they had been guided [in worldly life] to good speech, and they were guided to the path of the Praiseworthy. ### Muhammad Asad for they were [willing to be] guided towards the best of all tenets, and so they were guided onto the way that leads to the One unto whom all praise is due. ### Marmaduke Pickthall They are guided unto gentle speech; they are guided unto the path of the Glorious One. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They were guided (to accept) the pure word;[1] they were guided to the Way of the Praiseworthy (Lord).[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] "Purest of the speeches": though it may imply every pure thing, here it refers to the basic articles of the faith. - [2] As already stated in the introduction, the portion of the Surah, which was revealed at Makkah, comes to an end here. Though its style is clearly that of the Makki Surahs and there is nothing to indicate that any part (or the whole) of it was revealed at Al-Madinah, yet the words, "these are the two parties", have given rise to the misunderstanding that this verse was revealed at Al-Madinah. Some commentators are of the opinion that the two parties referred to were the parties who met in the Battle of Badr, but there is nothing in the context to support this opinion. On the other hand, from the context in which these words occur, it becomes obvious that the two parties referred to were the believers and the disbelievers. For the conflict between belief and disbelief has always been going on ever since the creation of man and will go on upto the Day of Resurrection. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab They were instinctively guided to use gracious words in their discourse and they were graced with Allah's guidance to His path, the path of AL-Aziz (the Almighty) to whom are extolled the glorious attributes. ### Bijan Moeinian They have been indeed guided by the purest speech (Lord’s Revelations) to the path of the Most Praised One. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And they are guided (in this world) unto goodly speech (i.e. Lâ ilâha illallâh, Alhamdu lillâh, recitation of the Qur’ân, etc.) and they are guided to the Path of Him (i.e. Allâh’s religion of Islâmic Monotheism), Who is Worthy of all praises. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali For they have been guided (in this life) to the purest of speeches; they have been guided to the Path of Him Who is Worthy of (all) Praise. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran for they have been guided to the best of speech, and they have been guided to the Commendable Path.[1] ### Taqi Usmani Guided they were to the good word (of faith) and guided they were to the path of (Allah,) the Praised One. ### Abdul Haleem They were guided to good speech and to the path of the One Worthy of all Praise. ### Arthur John Arberry and they; shall be guided unto goodly speech, and they shall be guided unto the path of the All-laudable. ### E.
