Surah Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) — سورة الحج - **Verse:** 15 / 78 · **Juz:** 17 · **Mushaf page:** 332 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hajj/verse-15 ## Arabic مَنْ كَانَ يَظُنُّ اَنْ لَنْ يَنْصُرَهُ اللّٰهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ بِسَبَبٍ اِلَى السَّمَٓاءِ ثُمَّ لْيَقْطَعْ فَلْيَنْظُرْ هَلْ يُذْهِبَنَّ كَيْدُهُ مَا يَغ۪يظُ ## Transcription Man kana yathunnu anlan yansurahu Allahu fee addunya wal-akhiratifalyamdud bisababin ila assama-i thummaliyaqtaAA falyanthur hal yuthhibannakayduhu ma yagheeth ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Anyone who thinks that Allah will not help him in this world and the Next World should stretch a rope up to the ceiling and then hang himself. Let him see whether his stratagem gets rid of what enrages him! ### Progressive Muslims Whosoever thinks that God will not grant him victory in this world and the Hereafter, then let him extend his request to the heavens, then let him stop and see whether this action has removed his obstacles. ### Shabbir Ahmed If anyone thinks that Allah cannot help him in this world and in the life to come, let him reach out unto the heaven by any other means and thus try to make headway. Then let him see whether his strategy dispelleth that whereat he rageth!. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Anyone who fancies that Allah will not support him in this world and in the Hereafter, let him reach out to heaven through a rope, and then make a hole in the sky and see whether his device can avert that which enrages him.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] There is a great divergence of opinion about the exact meaning of this verse. Some of the interpretations are: ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab He who feels that Allah shall not afford His Prophet help here nor Hereafter, may attach a rope to the ceiling or stretch a rope heavenward to hang himself and cuts off his own breath or tries to stop the Prophet's help from heaven and sees whether such a plan or a scheme shall annul his rage! ### Bijan Moeinian The one who doubts that God is of no help to him neither in this world nor in the Hereafter, has only one choice: to throw a rope up to the sky, mount it, make a whole in the sky, and get angry [for not having found a written answer to his doubt even up there!] ### Al-Hilali & Khan Whoever thinks that Allâh will not help him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in this world and in the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself.
