Surah Al-Hadid (The Iron) — سورة الحديد - **Verse:** 24 / 29 · **Juz:** 27 · **Mushaf page:** 539 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-hadid/verse-24 ## Arabic اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبُخْلِۜ وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَم۪يدُ ## Transcription Allatheena yabkhaloona waya/muroona annasabilbukhli waman yatawalla fa-inna Allaha huwaalghaniyyu alhameed ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley those who are tight-fisted and tell others to be tight-fisted. If anyone turns away, Allah is the Rich Beyond Need, the Praiseworthy. ### Progressive Muslims They are stingy, and order the people to be stingy. And for anyone who turns away, then know that God is the Rich, the Praiseworthy. ### Shabbir Ahmed - Who withhold wealth and enjoin upon people to hold back resources. And whosoever turneth away, still Allah is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary those who are niggardly and bid others to be niggardly.[1] And he who turns away, (should know that) Allah is Self-Sufficient, Immensely Praiseworthy.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] The allusion is to the trait of character that everyone could experience among the hypocrites in the Muslim society itself. As regards to the outward affirmation of the faith, they could not be distinguished from the true Muslims. But owing to lack of sincerity they were not receiving the sort of training that was being given to the sincere Muslims. Therefore, the little prosperity and leadership that they were enjoying in an ordinary town of Arabia, was causing them to be swollen with pride. As for their stinginess, not only were they themselves unwilling to give away anything in the cause of God Whom they professed to believe in and the Messenger (peace be upon him) whom they professed to follow and the faith which they professed to have accepted, but also tried to prevent others from making any contribution, for, they thought, it was a useless cause. Obviously, if there had been no trials and tribulations, these worthless people, who were of no use to Allah, could not be separated from the sincere and worthy believers, and without weeding them out a mixed crowd of sincere and insincere Muslims could not be entrusted with the high office of leadership of the world, the great blessings of which the world subsequently witnessed in the rightly-guided Caliphate. - [2] That is, even if after hearing these words of admonition a person does not adopt the way of sincerity, faithfulness and sacrifice for the sake of Allah and His religion, and wishes to persist in his stubbornness, which Allah disapproves, then Allah has no use for him, for Allah is All- Sufficient and Independent of His creatures. He does not stand in need of their help in any way. And He is All- Praiseworthy. People of only good qualities are acceptable to Him. People of evil character cannot be entitled to receive any favor from Him. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Those who are miserly, unwilling to give in benevolence or spend in divine service, and induce others to be mean and parsimonious, have in effect permitted the forbidden and commended it to others. And he who counsels deaf to the ordinances of Allah must realize that Allah is AL-Ghaniy (independent, Absolute) and AL-Hamid (Worthy of all praise). ### Bijan Moeinian The latter are stingy and prevent the others to be generous in their charitable contribution. No matter you spend money for the sake of God or not, God is the wealthiest indeed and is the Only One worthy of praise. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Those who are misers and enjoin upon people miserliness - (Allâh is not in need of their charity). And whosoever turns away (from Faith - Allâh’s Monotheism), then Allâh is Rich (Free of all needs), Worthy of all praise. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Such persons as are covetous and commend covetousness to men. And if any turn back (from Allah's Way), verily Allah is Free of all Needs, Worthy of all Praise. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran those who are stingy and promote stinginess among people. And whoever turns away, then Allah is the All-Independent, the Ever-Praised. ### Abdul Haleem those who are miserly, and who tell other people to be miserly.
