# 88. Surah Al-Ghashiyah

_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

هَلْ اَتٰيكَ حَد۪يثُ الْغَاشِيَةِۜ

Hal ataka hadeethu alghashiyat

Has there come to thee the narrative of the Enveloping?

## Verse 2

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌۙ

Wujoohun yawma-ithin khashiAAa

Faces, that day, will be humbled:

## Verse 3

عَامِلَةٌ نَاصِبَةٌۙ

AAamilatun nasiba

Toiling, exhausted,

## Verse 4

تَصْلٰى نَاراً حَامِيَةًۙ

Tasla naran hamiya

Burning in a scorching Fire,

## Verse 5

تُسْقٰى مِنْ عَيْنٍ اٰنِيَةٍۜ

Tusqa min AAaynin aniya

Watered from a boiling spring.

## Verse 6

لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ اِلَّا مِنْ ضَر۪يعٍۙ

Laysa lahum taAAamun illamin dareeAA

They have no food save of poisonous thorns:

## Verse 7

لَا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْن۪ي مِنْ جُوعٍۜ

La yusminu wala yughnee minjooAA

Neither sustaining, nor availing against hunger.

## Verse 8

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاعِمَةٌۙ

Wujoohun yawma-ithin naAAima

Faces, that day, will be joyous:

## Verse 9

لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۙ

LisaAAyiha radiya

With their striving well-pleased,

## Verse 10

ف۪ي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۙ

Fee jannatin AAaliya

In a high garden.

## Verse 11

لَا تَسْمَعُ ف۪يهَا لَاغِيَةًۜ

La tasmaAAu feeha laghiya

They hear therein no vain speech;

## Verse 12

ف۪يهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌۢ

Feeha AAaynun jariya

Therein — a flowing spring;

## Verse 13

ف۪يهَا سُرُرٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌۙ

Feeha sururun marfooAAa

Therein — couches raised,

## Verse 14

وَاَكْوَابٌ مَوْضُوعَةٌۙ

Waakwabun mawdooAAa

And cups set,

## Verse 15

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۙ

Wanamariqu masfoofa

And cushions arrayed,

## Verse 16

وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌۜ

Wazarabiyyu mabthootha

And carpets outspread.

## Verse 17

اَفَلَا يَنْظُرُونَ اِلَى الْاِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ۠

Afala yanthuroona ilaal-ibili kayfa khuliqat

Will they then not look at the camels — how they were created!

## Verse 18

وَاِلَى السَّمَٓاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ۠

Wa-ila assama-i kayfarufiAAat

And at the sky — how it was raised!

## Verse 19

وَاِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ۠

Wa-ila aljibali kayfa nusibat

And at the mountains — how they were erected!

## Verse 20

وَاِلَى الْاَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ۠

Wa-ila al-ardi kayfa sutihat

And at the earth — how it was spread out!

## Verse 21

فَذَكِّرْ اِنَّـمَٓا اَنْتَ مُذَكِّرٌۜ

Fathakkir innama anta muthakkir

So remind thou; thou art but one reminding,

## Verse 22

لَسْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمُصَيْطِرٍۙ

Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytir

Thou art not over them an overseer.

## Verse 23

اِلَّا مَنْ تَوَلّٰى وَكَفَرَۙ

Illa man tawalla wakafar

But whoso turns away and denies,

## Verse 24

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللّٰهُ الْعَذَابَ الْاَكْبَرَۜ

FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathabaal-akbar

God will punish him with the greatest punishment.

## Verse 25

اِنَّ اِلَيْنَٓا اِيَابَهُمْۙ

Inna ilayna iyabahum

To Us is their return;

## Verse 26

ثُمَّ اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ

Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum

Then upon Us is their reckoning.
