Surah Al-Furqan (The Criterion) — سورة الفرقان - **Verse:** 32 / 77 · **Juz:** 19 · **Mushaf page:** 361 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-furqan/verse-32 ## Arabic وَقَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الْقُرْاٰنُ جُمْلَةً وَاحِدَةًۚ كَذٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِه۪ فُؤٰادَكَ وَرَتَّلْنَاهُ تَرْت۪يلاً ## Transcription Waqala allatheena kafaroo lawlanuzzila AAalayhi alqur-anu jumlatan wahidatan kathalikalinuthabbita bihi fu-adaka warattalnahu tarteela ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those who are kafir say, ‘Why was the Qur’an not sent down to him all in one go?’ It is so that We can fortify your heart by it. We have recited it distinctly, little by little. ### Progressive Muslims And those who rejected said: "If only the Quran was sent down to him in one go!" It was done as such so We could strengthen your heart with it, and We arranged it accordingly. ### Shabbir Ahmed Now they who are bent on denying the Truth ask, "Why has not the Qur'an been revealed to him all at once?" So it has been! (It has all been revealed upon the Prophet's heart in the Night of Ruling (97:1)). For, in order to strengthen your heart We have already arranged it in the Right Order. And We have caused you to convey it to people in stages, step by step. (73:4). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And those who ignore warning say: “Oh, that the Qur’an were but sent down upon him all at once!” Thus — that We might strengthen thy heart thereby; and We have recited it distinctly. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Andthose who rejected said: "If only the Qur'an was sent down to him in one go!" It was done as such so We could strengthen your heart with it, and We arranged it accordingly. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Those who disbelieved said, "Why did not the Quran come through him all at once?" We have released it to you gradually, in order to fix it in your memory. We have recited it in a specific sequence. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira The unbelievers say: "Why was the whole Qur'an not sent down all at once to him?" It was sent thus that We may keep your heart resolute. So We enunciated it by steps and distinctly. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?" Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly. ### Muhammad Asad Now they who are bent on denying the truth are wont to ask. "Why has not the Qur’an been bestowed on him from on high in one single re­velation?" [it has been revealed] in this manner so that We might strengthen thy heart thereby - for We have so arranged its component parts that they form one consistent whole - ### Marmaduke Pickthall And those who disbelieve say: Why is the Qur'an not revealed unto him all at once? (It is revealed) thus that We may strengthen thy heart therewith; and We have arranged it in right order. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Those who disbelieve say: "Why was the Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?"[1] It was revealed thus that We may fully impress it on your mind;[2] (and for the same end) We have revealed it gradually (according to a scheme) in fragments. _Footnotes_ - [1] As the disbelievers of Makkah considered this objection to be very strong, they repeated it over and over again. The Quran also has cited it with its answer at several places. For instance, see (E.Ns 101-106 of Surah An-Naml) and(E.N. 119 of Surah Bani Israil). Their question implied: Had the Quran been really the Word of Allah, it would have been sent as a complete book all at once; for Allah has the knowledge of everything and every human affair. Thus it is obvious that nothing is being sent down from above; but this man himself fabricates all its themes or gets these from other people or other books. - [2] So that by it We may strengthen your heart and imbue it with courage. The words are comprehensive. This concise sentence contains the following explanation why the Quran was revealed piecemeal by degrees: ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Again the infidels say: "If only the Quran were revealed to him all at once!" But We reveal it in this manner -gradual growth- to lay it to your heart and establish it firmly so that it prevails upon you O Muhammad and you be confirmed in opinion, action and purpose and We peruse it slowly and We take Our time. ### Bijan Moeinian The disbelievers say: "How come the Qur’an is not being revealed to him all at once? It is being revealed gradually in order to strengthen you in belief (so that there will always be a Divine intervention in the process of the establishment of the first Islamic state. ) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And those who disbelieve say: "Why is not the Qur’ân revealed to him all at once?" Thus (it is sent down in parts), that We may strengthen your heart thereby. And We have revealed it to you gradually, in stages. (It was revealed to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in 23 years.). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Those who reject Faith say: "Why is not the Qur'an revealed to him all at once? Thus (is it revealed), that We may strengthen thy heart thereby, and We have rehearsed it to thee in slow, well-arranged stages, gradually. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran The disbelievers say, "If only the Quran had been sent down to him all at once!" ˹We have sent it˺ as such ˹in stages˺ so We may reassure your heart with it. And We have revealed it at a deliberate pace. ### Taqi Usmani Said those who disbelieved, "Why has the Qur’ān not been revealed to him all at once?" (It has been sent down) in this way (i.e. in parts) so that We make your heart firm, and We revealed it little by little. ### Abdul Haleem The disbelievers also say, ‘Why was the Quran not sent down to him all at once?’ We sent it in this way to strengthen your heart [Prophet]; We gave it to you in gradual revelation. ### Arthur John Arberry The unbelievers say, 'Why has the Koran not been sent down upon him all at once?' Even so, that We may strengthen thy heart thereby, and We have chanted it very distinctly. ### E. Henry Palmer Those who misbelieve said, 'Unless the Qur'an be sent down to him all at once. ..!' - thus - that we may stablish thy heart therewith, did we reveal it piecemeal. ### Hamid S. Aziz Thus have We made for every prophet an opponent from among the guilty; but your Lord is sufficient as good guide and helper. ### Mahmoud Ghali And the ones who have disbelieved have said, "If only the Qur'an had been sent down upon him as one complete whole. " Thus, that We may make firm your heart-sight thereby, and We have recited it in a (distinct) recitation. ### George Sale The unbelievers say, unless the Koran be sent down unto him entire at once, we will not believe. But in this manner have We revealed it, that We might confirm thy heart thereby, and We have dictated it gradually, by distinct parcels. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And those who reject Faith say: "Why is Quran not sent to him all at once?" (It is sent) like this so that We may give strength to your heart with it, and We have made it known to you in slow well-ordered stages, little at a time. ### Amatul Rahman Omar And those who disbelieve say, `Why has not (the whole of) the Qur'ân been revealed to him all at once? (But We have revealed it) in this manner (- piece by piece out of necessity). And (inspite of the fact that it has not been revealed all at once,) We have arranged it in an excellent (form and order of) arrangement (and free of all contradictions) so that We may thereby lend strength to your heart. ### Ali Quli Qarai The faithless say, ‘Why has not the Qur’ān been sent down to him all at once?’ So it is, that We may strengthen your heart with it, and We have recited it [to you] in a measured tone. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Hakikat bilgisini inkar edenler dediler ki: "O'na Kuran'ın (İsrailoğullarına gelen kitaplar gibi) hepsi birden tenzil edilmeliydi!". . . (Oysa) böylece, O'nunla, senin Fuadını (Esma mana özelliklerini şuura yansıtıcılar - kalp nöronlarının beyindeki açılımlarını) sabitlemek için (böyle tenzil ettik) ve (hakikatinde, her birinin kuvvelerini ayrı ayrı bulman için) bölümler halinde okuttuk. ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı İnkar edenler dediler ki: "Kur'an ona tek bir defada, toplu olarak indirilmeli değil miydi?" Biz onunla kalbini sağlamlaştırıp pekiştirmek için böylece (ayet ayet indirdik) ve onu 'belli bir okuma düzeniyle (tertil üzere) düzene koyup' okuduk. ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali İnkar edenler, "Kur'an ona bir defada topluca indirilmeli değil miydi?" dediler. Biz onu senin kalbine iyice yerleştirmek için böylece yaptık ve onu tane tane okuduk. ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali İnkar edenler, "Kur'an ona bir defada toptan indirilseydi ya!" dediler. Biz onu kalbine iyi yerleştirmek için böyle indirdik ve onu mükemmel bir okuyuşla ağır ağır okuduk. ### Gültekin Onan Küfredenler dediler ki: "Kuran ona tek bir defada, toplu olarak indirilmeli değil miydi?" Biz onunla yüreğini (fuadeke) sağlamlaştırıp pekiştirmek için böylece (ayet ayet indirdik) ve onu 'belli bir okuma düzeniyle (tertil üzere) düzene koyup' okuduk. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim O küfredenler (şöyle) dedi (ler): "Ona Kur'an bir (hamlede), toplu bir halde indirilmeli değil miydi"? Biz onu senin kalbine iyice yerleşdirmek için böyle (yapdık). Onu (çok güzel bir nizaam ile) ayet ayet ayırdık (ve aheste aheste bildirdik). ### İbni Kesir O küfredenler dediler ki: Kur'an ona bir kerede topluca indirilmeli değil miydi? Halbuki Biz; onu senin kalbine iyice yerleştirmek için böyle azar azar indirir ve ağır ağır okuruz. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı İmdi, hakkı inkara şartlanmış olan kimseler: "Kuran ona bir bütün olarak bir kerede indirilseydi ya!" diyorlar. Oysa, Biz onu (sana) böyle tutarlı bir bütün oluşturacak şekilde belli bir düzen içinde ağır ağır vahyediyoruz ki onunla senin kalbini pekiştirelim. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Küfredenler: -Kur'an ona bir defada toptan indirilmeli değil miydi? dediler. Biz, onu senin kalbine yerleştirmek için böyle indirdik. Onu düzenli ve yerli yerince indirdik. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali İnkar edenler: "Kur'an, ona bir defada indirilmeli değil miydi?" dediler.
