Surah Al-Furqan (The Criterion) — سورة الفرقان - **Verse:** 2 / 77 · **Juz:** 18 · **Mushaf page:** 358 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-furqan/verse-2 ## Arabic اَلَّذ۪ي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَداً وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَر۪يكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَقَدَّرَهُ تَقْد۪يراً ## Transcription Allathee lahu mulku assamawatiwal-ardi walam yattakhith waladan walamyakun lahu shareekun fee almulki wakhalaqa kulla shay-infaqaddarahu taqdeera ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He to whom the kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs. He does not have a son and He has no partner in the Kingdom. He created everything and determined it most exactly. ### Progressive Muslims The One to whom belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the Earth, and He did not take a son, and He does not have any partner in kingship. And He created everything and measured it precisely. ### Shabbir Ahmed (The Sender of this Criterion is) He to Whom belongs the Kingship of the heavens and the earth. He has chosen no son, nor does He have a partner in His Kingship. He hath created everything and hath meted out for it a measure. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary He to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth;[1] Who has taken to Himself no son[2] nor has He taken any partner in His kingdom;[3] Who created everything and then determined its destiny.[4] _Footnotes_ - [1] "To Him belongs the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth." That is, He alone has an exclusive right to it, and no one else has any right to it nor any share in it. - [2] That is, He has neither any relation of direct parenthood to anyone, nor has He taken anyone as a son. Therefore, none else in the universe is entitled to worship. He is Unique and there can be no partner in His Godhead. Thus all those who associate with Him angels or jinns or saints as His offspring, are ignorant. Likewise, those who believe that someone is His son, are also ignorant. They have no true conception of the Greatness of Allah and consider Him to be weak and needy like human beings, who require someone to become their inheritor. It is sheer ignorance and folly. For further details, see (E.Ns 66 to 68 of Surah Younus). - [3] The Arabic word mulk means Sovereignty, Supreme Authority, and Kingship. Thus the sentence will mean: Allah is the Absolute Ruler of the whole universe and there is none other who may have any right to authority; therefore He alone is God. For, whenever a man takes anything else as his lord, he does so under the presumption that his deity has the power to do good or bring harm and make or mar his fortune; nobody will like to worship a powerless deity. Now when it is recognized that none but Allah has the real power and authority in the universe, nobody will bow before anyone other than Him in worship, nor will sing anybody else’s hymns, nor commit the folly of bowing in worship before anything else except his real God, or recognize any other as his ruler, because "To Allah belongs the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and to Him alone." - [4] There may be other translations of this also: He has ordained it in due proportion; or He has appointed an exact measure for everything. But no translation can convey its real meaning, which is: Allah has not only created everything in the universe but also determined its shape, size, potentialities, characteristics, term of existence, the limitations and extent of its development and all other things concerning it. Then, He has created the means and provisions to enable it to function properly in its own separate sphere. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab (blessed be He) Who has the sovereignty, the supreme dominion and the supreme controlling power of the heavens and the earth. The Creator Who never allowed anyone to share His Sovereignty or His divine nature. He created the whole and all in all, and each and all He has computed in due proportion to satisfy individual needs and to attain a certain object and a precise purpose. ### Bijan Moeinian (Honored in worship is) The One to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. The one Who never had a son or partner in His Kingdom. The one Who created everything in the most perfect manner and then directed them toward their destiny. ### Al-Hilali & Khan He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Who has begotten no son (children or offspring) and for Whom there is no partner in the dominion. He has created everything, and has measured it exactly according to its due measurements. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion: it is He who created all things, and ordered them in due proportions. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran ˹Allah is˺ the One to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, Who has never had ˹any˺ offspring, nor does He have a partner in ˹governing˺ the kingdom. He has created everything, ordaining it precisely. ### Taqi Usmani the One to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and who did neither have a son, nor is there any partner to him in the Kingdom, and who has created everything and designed it in a perfect measure. ### Abdul Haleem It is He who has control over the heavens and earth and has no offspring––no one shares control with Him––and who created all things and made them to an exact measure. ### Arthur John Arberry to whom belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth; and He has not taken to Him a son, and He has no associate in the Kingdom; and He created every thing, then He ordained it very exactly. ### E.
