Surah Al-Fath (The Victory) — سورة الفتح - **Verse:** 20 / 29 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 512 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-fath/verse-20 ## Arabic وَعَدَكُمُ اللّٰهُ مَغَانِمَ كَث۪يرَةً تَأْخُذُونَهَا فَعَجَّلَ لَكُمْ هٰذِه۪ وَكَفَّ اَيْدِيَ النَّاسِ عَنْكُمْۚ وَلِتَكُونَ اٰيَةً لِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ صِرَاطاً مُسْتَق۪يماًۙ ## Transcription WaAAadakumu Allahu maghanimakatheeratan ta/khuthoonaha faAAajjala lakum hathihiwakaffa aydiya annasi AAankum walitakoona ayatanlilmu/mineena wayahdiyakum siratan mustaqeema ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Allah has promised you much booty which you will take, and has hastened this for you and held people’s hands back from you, so that it might be a Sign to the muminun, and so that He might guide you to a straight path. ### Progressive Muslims God has promised you abundant spoils that you will take. Thus He has hastened this for you, and He has withheld the people's hands against you; that it may be a sign for the believers, and that He may guide you to a straight path. ### Shabbir Ahmed Allah promises you a great many gains that you shall acquire, and has given you these ones just to begin with. And He has restrained the aggressive hands of people from you, that it may be a Sign for the believers (of all times) and so that He may light up for you a Straight Path. ('Huda' and derivatives = Lead, guide, show the way, enlighten, light up the way, walk ahead, be a beacon). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation God has promised you many spoils you will take, and He has hastened this for you, — and He restrained the hands of men from you, that it might be a proof for the believers, and that He might guide you by a straight path — ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation God has promised you abundant spoils that you will take. Thus He has hastened this for you, and He has withheld the hands of the people against you; that it may be a sign for the believers, and that He may guide you to a straight path. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament GOD has promised you many spoils that you will gain. He thus advanced some benefits for you in this life, and He has withheld the people's hands of aggression against you, and has rendered this a sign for the believers. He thus guides you in a straight path. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira God had promised you many spoils that you would capture; so He gave this soon enough to you, and stayed the hands of men from you that it may serve as a sign for believers, and guide you on the straight path; ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Allah has promised you much booty that you will take [in the future] and has hastened for you this [victory] and withheld the hands of people from you - that it may be a sign for the believers and [that] He may guide you to a straight path. ### Muhammad Asad [O you who believe!] God has promised you many war-gains which you shall yet achieve; and He has vouchsafed you these [worldly gains] well in advance, and has stayed from you the hands of [hostile] people, so that this [your inner strength] may become a symbol to the believers [who will come after you], and that He may guide you all on a straight way. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Allah promiseth you much booty that ye will capture, and hath given you this in advance, and hath withheld men's hands from you, that it may be a token for the believers, and that He may guide you on a right path. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah has promised you abundant spoils which you shall acquire.[1] He has instantly granted you this (victory)[2] and has restrained the hands of people from you[3] that it may be a Sign for the believers[4] and He may guide you to a Straight Way.[5] _Footnotes_ - [1] This refers to the other victories that the Muslim achieved successively after Khaiber. - [2] This implies the treaty of Hudaibiyah which has been described as a manifest victory in the beginning of the Surah. - [3] That is, He restrained the disbelieving Quraish from attacking you at Hudaibiyah although from all appearances they were in a much better position and yours was a much weaker side militarily. Furthermore, it also implies that no enemy power could muster courage to attack Al-Madinah in those days, whereas after the departure of 1,400 soldiers the Al-Madinah front had become very weak, and the Jews, the polytheists and hypocrites could take advantage of the situation. - [4] Sign of this as to how Allah helps the one who remains steadfast on obedience to Allah and His Messenger and comes out to support and defend the truth and righteousness with his trust and faith in Allah. - [5] To a straight path: To the path of greater insight and faith so that you may remain steadfast on obedience to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) in the future and may go on marching on the way of truth with trust in Allah, and may learn this lesson from these experiences that the believer should take practical steps to do whatever is demanded by Allah’s religion with his trust in Him, and should not overestimate either his own strength or the strength of the unbelievers. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Allah has given you a Divine assurance of future gains to come into your possession, and so He expedited for you this event (of concluding peace treaty at Hodaibyiah) and He held back the people’s hands from a hostile course of action against you so that it comes to be a sign; an act of miraculous nature serving to demonstrate Divine power; authority. He is well intentioned to guide you to the path of safety and righteousness. ### Bijan Moeinian God promises you lots of wealth which you will acquire in other victories. At this time, God has restrained the disbelievers (of Mecca Who had the upper hand in Hudaibiyah) from attacking you which is a great victory by itself. May this victory be a sign to the believers and that God guide you to the right path. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Allâh has promised you abundant spoils that you will capture, and He has hastened for you this, and He has restrained the hands of men from you: that it may be a sign for the believers, and that He may guide you to the Straight Path. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Allah has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path; ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Allah has promised you ˹believers˺ abundant spoils, which you will gain, so He hastened this ˹truce˺[1] for you. And He has held people’s hands back from ˹harming˺ you, so it may be a sign for the believers, and so He may guide you along the Straight Path. ### Taqi Usmani Allah had promised you many spoils that you would receive, so He gave these to you sooner, and stopped the hands of the people from (harming) you. And (He did this) so that it becomes a sign for believers, and so that He guides you to the right path. ### Abdul Haleem He has promised you [people] many future gains: He has hastened this gain for you. He has held back the hands of hostile people from you as a sign for the faithful and He will guide you to a straight path. ### Arthur John Arberry God has promised you many spoils to take; these He has hastened to you, and has restrained the hands of men from you, and that it may be a sign to the believers, and to guide you on a straight path, ### E. And (as a result of the Treaty of Hudaibiyah) He restrained the hands of the people from (committing aggression against) you that it may serve the believers as a sign and that He may lead you on the straight and right path leading to the goal. ### Ali Quli Qarai Allah has promised you abundant spoils which you will capture.
