Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) — سورة البقرة - **Verse:** 270 / 286 · **Juz:** 3 · **Mushaf page:** 45 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-270 ## Arabic وَمَٓا اَنْفَقْتُمْ مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ اَوْ نَذَرْتُمْ مِنْ نَذْرٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَعْلَمُهُۜ وَمَا لِلظَّالِم۪ينَ مِنْ اَنْصَارٍ ## Transcription Wama anfaqtum min nafaqatin aw nathartummin nathrin fa-inna Allaha yaAAlamuhu wamaliththalimeena min ansar ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Whatever amount you spend or vow you make, Allah knows it. The wrongdoers have no helpers. ### Progressive Muslims And whatever you spend out of your monies, or whatever you pledge as a promise, then God knows it. The wicked have no supporters. ### Shabbir Ahmed Whatever you spend on others or whatever pledge you make, Allah knows it. Those who do wrong by withholding charity shall have none to help them. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And what you spend of an expenditure or make of a pledge, God knows it. Allah knoweth it. Wrong-doers have no helpers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah knows whatever you spend or whatever you vow (to spend). The wrong-doers have none to succour them.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] Whether or not a man spends in the way of God, and whether or not he vows to spend in the way of God, God is fully aware both of his intentions and deeds. All those who either spend for the sake of God or vow to spend for the sake of God will be adequately rewarded. As for those who have either spent or have vowed to spend for others than God, no one will save them from God's chastisement. 'Vow' means either a man's pledge to spend something or to perform some act of goodness which is not obligatory on him providing a particular wish of his is fulfilled. Provided that this vow is related to some wish which is in itself permissible and good and that the person concerned makes it to none but God and for the sake of God, then such a vow will be reckoned as an act of obedience to God and its fulfilment will be worthy of reward. Otherwise such a vow will be seen as an act of disobedience and sin and its fulfilment will invite punishment from God. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And whatever large or small amount you spend in divine service or whatever you vow to solemnly undertake, comes to Allah’s knowledge. And the wrongful shall have no guiding protectors to help them Hereafter. ### Bijan Moeinian God knows anything that you spend on charity or any charitable pledge that you fulfill.
