Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) — سورة البقرة - **Verse:** 204 / 286 · **Juz:** 2 · **Mushaf page:** 31 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-204 ## Arabic وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يُعْجِبُكَ قَوْلُهُ فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا وَيُشْهِدُ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى مَا ف۪ي قَلْبِه۪ۙ وَهُوَ اَلَدُّ الْخِصَامِ ## Transcription Wamina annasi man yuAAjibukaqawluhu fee alhayati addunyawayushhidu Allaha AAala ma fee qalbihiwahuwa aladdu alkhisam ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Among the people there is someone whose words about the life of this world excite your admiration, and he calls Allah to witness what is in his heart, while he is in fact the most hostile of adversaries. ### Progressive Muslims And from among the people are those whose words you admire in this worldly life, but God is witness as to what is in his heart, for he is the worst in opposition. ### Shabbir Ahmed Now there is a kind of man whose views on the life of the world dazzle you, and he even swears by God to what is in his heart. Moreover, he is exceedingly skillful in argument. This would apply to someone who concentrates all his energies on opposing truth, and who resorts to whatever falsehood, dishonesty, treachery and breach of faith he thinks necessary to achieve his ends. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Among people there exists he who attracts you, drawing your interest and affection, and he conveys virtues of nature and to this end Allah is his witness, while in reality he is the worst adversary seeking to obtain his own end. ### Bijan Moeinian You will encounter some individuals (like some politicians of our time) who pretend having devoted themselves to the betterment of mankind. They even take God as their witness. Yet they are the most ardent enemy of mankind (meaning the action is the criterion and not the words.) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And of mankind there is he whose speech may please you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), in this worldly life, and he calls Allâh to witness as to that which is in his heart, yet he is the most quarrelsome of the opponents. Oysa o azılı bir düşmandır. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim İnsanlardan öyle kimse vardır ki, onun (bu) dünya hayaatına aid sözü hoşuna gider ve o, kalbinde olana Allahı şahid getirir.
