Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) — سورة البقرة - **Verse:** 159 / 286 · **Juz:** 2 · **Mushaf page:** 23 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-159 ## Arabic اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَٓا اَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدٰى مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِۙ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَۙ ## Transcription Inna allatheena yaktumoona maanzalna mina albayyinati walhuda minbaAAdi ma bayyannahu linnasi feealkitabi ola-ika yalAAanuhumu AllahuwayalAAanuhumu allaAAinoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those who hide the Clear Signs and Guidance We have sent down, after We have made it clear to people in the Book, Allah curses them, and the cursers curse them – ### Progressive Muslims Surely those who conceal what We have sent down to them which was clear, and the guidance, after God Had made it clear in the Scripture; these will be cursed by God and be cursed by those who curse. ### Shabbir Ahmed (Allah has defined the objectives of the Pilgrimage to the Sacred Masjid in this Book (22:28). ) Those who conceal the evidence and the Guidance which We have revealed and made clear for people in the Book - such are rejected by Allah and His righteous servants. Those who hide the proofs and the guidance which We revealed, after We had made it clear to mankind in the Scripture: such are accursed of Allah and accursed of those who have the power to curse. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Those who conceal anything of the clear teachings and true guidance which We have sent down even though We have made them clear in Our Book, Allah curses such people and so do all the cursers,[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] The biggest failure of the Jews was that they kept the teachings contained in the Book of God confined to a limited class of people, the rabbis and professional theologians, instead of spreading them. They did not allow this knowledge to filter through even to the Jewish masses let alone the non-Jewish peoples of the world. Later, when errors and corruptions spread among them owing to widespread ignorance the Jewish theologians made no serious effort to root them out. Moreover, in order to maintain their hold on the Jewish masses they lent their tacit approval to every corrupting deviation from the true faith that gained currency.The Muslims are being admonished to refrain from this kind of behaviour. The nation which has been charged with the guidance of the entire world is duty-bound to do its utmost to radiate true guidance, rather than keep it under lock and key as a miser hoards his money. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Indeed, those who conceal the knowledge of the clear signs and revelations guiding out of darkness and superstition of later times and from want of spiritual and intellectual vision into mental illumination and enlightenment have come within the measure of Allah's wrath. They have earned the curse of Allah and of the angels and of the pious whose curse damages the accused; their own homes shall be cursed. ### Bijan Moeinian God and people curse those (religious scholars who have made the religion a monopoly of their own and do not share their knowledge with the people) who hide the Lord’s teachings as revealed in the Scripture (and is meant to enlighten the public at large) ### Al-Hilali & Khan Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidence and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allâh and cursed by the cursers. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Those who conceal the clear (Signs) We have sent down, and the Guidance, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book,-on them shall be Allah's curse, and the curse of those entitled to curse,- ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Those who hide the clear proofs and guidance that We have revealed—after We made it clear for humanity in the Book—will be condemned by Allah and ˹all˺ those who condemn. ### Taqi Usmani Surely, those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance We have revealed, even after We have explained them for people in the Book, upon them Allah casts damnation, and they are cursed by all those who curse. ### Abdul Haleem As for those who hide the proofs and guidance We send down, after We have made them clear to people in the Scripture, God rejects them, and so do others, ### Arthur John Arberry Those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance that We have sent down, after We have shown them clearly in the Book -- they shall be cursed by God and the cursers, ### E.
