Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) — سورة البقرة - **Verse:** 116 / 286 · **Juz:** 1 · **Mushaf page:** 17 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-116 ## Arabic وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللّٰهُ وَلَداًۙ سُبْحَانَهُۜ بَلْ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِۜ كُلٌّ لَهُ قَانِتُونَ ## Transcription Waqaloo itakhatha Allahuwaladan subhanahu bal lahu ma fee assamawatiwal-ardi kullun lahu qanitoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They say, ‘Allah has a son. ’ Glory be to Him! No, everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him. Everything is obedient to Him, ### Progressive Muslims And they said: "God has taken a son!" Be He glorified. To Him is all that is in the heavens and in the Earth, all are humbled to Him. ### Shabbir Ahmed And they say, "Allah has taken unto Himself a son. " Never! He is High Above what they say. Nay, unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Everything is subservient to Him. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And they say: “God has taken a son.” Glory be to Him! The truth is, to Him belongs what is in the heavens and the earth; all are humbly obedient to Him. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And they said: "God has taken a son!" Be He glorified. To Him is all that is in the heavens and the earth, all are dutiful to Him. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament They said, "GOD has begotten a son!" Be He glorified; never! " Exalted is He! Rather, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. All are devoutly obedient to Him, ### Muhammad Asad And yet some people assert, "God has taken unto Himself a son!" Limitless is He in His glory! Nay, but His is all that is in the heavens and on earth; all things devoutly obey His will. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And they say: Allah hath taken unto Himself a son. Be He glorified! Nay, but whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth is His. All are subservient unto Him. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They say: "Allah has taken to Himself a son." Glory to Him! Nay, whatever is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him; to Him are all in obeisance. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And yet they say: "Allah has begotten a son. " Glory be to Him, His glorious attributes extolled, but to Him all that exists in the heavens and earth belong to Him and all exercise a submissive reverence to His Authority. ### Bijan Moeinian They say: "God has adopted a son. " Shame on them. God is above such things. As a matter of fact, everything in the heavens and earth belongs to him and are submissive to Him. (See John 5:18-that Jesus refutes the claim that he is equal to God. in 5-he says: I can do nothing of my own...) ### Al-Hilali & Khan And they (Jews, Christians and pagans) say: Allâh has begotten a son (children or offspring)[1]. Glory be to Him (Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him). Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth, and all surrender with obedience (in worship) to Him. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali They say: "Allah hath begotten a son": Glory be to Him.-Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran They[1] say, "Allah has offspring."[2] Glory be to Him! In fact, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth—all are subject to His Will. ### Taqi Usmani They say: "Allah has got a son." Pure is He. Doğrusu göklerde ve yerde ne varsa O'nundur. Hepsi de O'na itaat ederler. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Bir kısım insanlar da, "Allah kendilerine bir oğul edindi!" iddiasında bulunurlar. (Asla!) O, yaratılmışlara özgü böyle vasıflardan kesinlikle uzaktır. Göklerde ve yerde ne varsa yalnız O'nundur.
