Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) — سورة البقرة - **Verse:** 115 / 286 · **Juz:** 1 · **Mushaf page:** 17 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-115 ## Arabic وَلِلّٰهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ فَاَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّوا فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ اللّٰهِۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ وَاسِعٌ عَل۪يمٌ ## Transcription Walillahi almashriqu walmaghribufaaynama tuwalloo fathamma wajhu Allahi inna AllahawasiAAun AAaleem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Both East and West belong to Allah, so wherever you turn, the Face of Allah is there. Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing. ### Progressive Muslims And to God belongs the east and the west, so wherever you turn, there is God's presence. God is Encompassing, Knowledgeable. ### Shabbir Ahmed And unto Allah belong the East and the West. (He transcends all boundaries and so is the Divine System that can be established anywhere on earth). Wherever you go, whichever way you turn, there is Allah's Countenance, and you remain in His Dominion. Behold, Allah is Transcendent, Knower of every site in the Universe. East and west, north and south, and indeed all places and directions are His, though He is not confined to any particular place or direction. Hence, if any place or direction is fixed for worship this does not mean that God dwells there. Likewise, changes in the direction of Prayer is not a proper subject for controversy and dispute. - [2] That is, God is neither limited, mean, narrow-minded, nor poor in resources. All such notions about God, which arise from considering Him as essentially similar to human beings, are erroneous. God's realm is boundless and so is His vision and the range of His benevolence and mercy. Moreover, God's knowledge is all-embracing. He knows who remembers Him, as well as where, when and why he does that. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And to Allah belong the East with its four cardinal points where the sun rises and the West with its four cardinal points where the sun sets, and therefore to whichever point in the universe you turn you shall be in Allah's August Presence. No matter where you turn your face, God is there (therefore do not engage in a dispute about why Mecca is appointed as the direction of prayer.)
