Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) — سورة البقرة - **Verse:** 111 / 286 · **Juz:** 1 · **Mushaf page:** 16 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-111 ## Arabic وَقَالُوا لَنْ يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ اِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ هُوداً اَوْ نَصَارٰىۜ تِلْكَ اَمَانِيُّهُمْۜ قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِق۪ينَ ## Transcription Waqaloo lan yadkhula aljannata illaman kana hoodan aw nasara tilka amaniyyuhumqul hatoo burhanakum in kuntum sadiqeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They say, ‘No one will enter the Garden except for Jews and Christians. ’ Such is their vain hope. Say, ‘Produce your evidence if you are telling the truth.’ ### Progressive Muslims And they said: "None shall enter Paradise except those who are Jewish or Nazarenes;" this is what they wish! Say: "Bring forth your proof if you are truthful. " ### Shabbir Ahmed And they claim, "None will enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian. " This is nothing but their wishful thinking. Say, "Bring your proof if you are truthful." (2:135). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And they say: “None will enter the Garden save such as hold to Judaism, or are Christians.” Those are their vain desires. " That is [merely] their wishful thinking, Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful." ### Muhammad Asad AND THEY claim, "None shall ever enter paradise unless he be a Jew" - or, "a Christian". Such are their wishful beliefs! Say: "Produce an evidence for what you are claiming, if what you say is true!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And they say: None entereth paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian. These are their own desires. Say: Bring your proof (of what ye state) if ye are truthful. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They say: "None shall enter the Garden unless he be a Jew or (according to the Christians), a Christian." " They simply dream on. Ask them: “On what basis do you make such a statement?
