And had the people of the cities believed and been in prudent fear, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied, so We seized them for what they earned.

If only the people of the cities had had iman and taqwa, We would have opened up to them blessings from heaven and earth. But they denied the truth so We seized them for what they earned.

Yet if the people of those communities had but attained to faith and been conscious of Us, We would indeed have opened up for them blessings out of heaven and earth: but they gave the lie to the truth - and so We took them to task through what they had been doing.

Had the town's folk conformed to the system of faith and worship as ordained by Allah, and entertained the profound reverence dutiful to Him, We would have opened for them all channels of mercy, blessings and prosperity from the realm of heaven above them and from the earth beneath their feet. But they obstinately and insolently denied Our signs betokening Authority and by consequence We seized them and reduced them to ruins.
Had such people chosen to believe and be righteous, I would have showered them with My blessings from the heaven and the earth. Unfortunately, they chose to disbelieve and earned their punishment.
And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwâ (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes).
If the people of the towns had but believed and feared Allah, We should indeed have opened out to them (All kinds of) blessings from heaven and earth; but they rejected (the truth), and We brought them to book for their misdeeds.
