Surah Al-A'raf (The Heights) — سورة الأعراف - **Verse:** 168 / 206 · **Juz:** 9 · **Mushaf page:** 171 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-168 ## Arabic وَقَطَّعْنَاهُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ اُمَماًۚ مِنْهُمُ الصَّالِحُونَ وَمِنْهُمْ دُونَ ذٰلِكَۘ وَبَلَوْنَاهُمْ بِالْحَسَنَاتِ وَالسَّيِّـَٔاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ## Transcription WaqattaAAnahum fee al-ardiomaman minhumu assalihoona waminhum doona thalikawabalawnahum bilhasanati wassayyi-atilaAAallahum yarjiAAoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley And We divided them into nations in the earth. Some of them are righteous and some are other than that. We tried them with good and evil so that hopefully they would return. ### Progressive Muslims And We divided them through the land as nations. From them are the upright, and from them are other than that. And We tested them with good things and bad, perhaps they will return. ### Shabbir Ahmed Our Law caused them to scatter in the earth as sections. Among them some are righteous, and some are opposite. We have tried them with interchange of favours and efficacious grace and with disfavors, misfortunes and disgrace that they may hopefully be dutiful to Allah. ### Bijan Moeinian I divided them into separate communities, scattered all over the earth. Some of them were righteous and some wrongdoers. I tried them both in prosperity and in misery so that they might come back [to the straight path.] ### Al-Hilali & Khan And We have broken them (i.e. the Jews) up into various separate groups on the earth: some of them are righteous and some are away from that. And We tried them with good (blessings) and evil (calamities) in order that they might turn (to Allâh’s Obedience). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We broke them up into sections on this earth. There are among them some that are the righteous, and some that are the opposite.
