Surah Al-A'raf (The Heights) — سورة الأعراف - **Verse:** 167 / 206 · **Juz:** 9 · **Mushaf page:** 171 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-167 ## Arabic وَاِذْ تَاَذَّنَ رَبُّكَ لَيَبْعَثَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ اِلٰى يَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِ مَنْ يَسُومُهُمْ سُٓوءَ الْعَذَابِۜ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَسَر۪يعُ الْعِقَابِۚ وَاِنَّهُ لَغَفُورٌ رَح۪يمٌ ## Transcription Wa-ith taaththana rabbukalayabAAathanna AAalayhim ila yawmi alqiyamati manyasoomuhum soo-a alAAathabi inna rabbaka lasareeAAu alAAiqabiwa-innahu laghafoorun raheem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Then your Lord announced that He would send against them until the Day of Rising people who would inflict an evil punishment on them. Your Lord is Swift in Retribution. And He is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Progressive Muslims And your Lord has sworn that He will send upon them, until the Day of Resurrection, people who would inflict severe punishment on them. Your Lord is quick to punish, and He is Forgiving, Merciful. ### Shabbir Ahmed And remember, your Lord proclaimed that He would raise against them till the Day of Resurrection, people who will persecute them. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful. ### Muhammad Asad And lo! Thy Sustainer made it known that most certainly He would rouse against them, unto Resurrection Day, people who would afflict them with cruel suffering: verily, thy Sustainer is swift in retribution - yet, verily, He is [also] much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And (remember) when thy Lord proclaimed that He would raise against them till the Day of Resurrection those who would lay on them a cruel torment. Lo! verily thy Lord is swift in prosecution and lo! verily He is Forgiving, Merciful. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And recall when Your Lord proclaimed[1] that 'He would continually set in authority over them, till the Day of Judgement, those who would ruthless oppress thern.'[2] Surely, your Lord is swift in chastising; and yet He is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful. _Footnotes_ - [1] The Qur'anic expression 'ta'adhdhana' means almost the same 'he warned; he proclaimed'. - [2] Since the 8th century B.C. the Israelites were warned consistently. This is borne out by the contents of the Books of the Prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, and their successors. Jesus too administered the same warning which is borne out by many of his orations in the New Testament, This was also later confirmed by the Qur'an. History bears out the veracity of the statement made both in the Qur'an and the earlier scriptures. For throughout history, since the time the Jews were warned, they have continually been subjected to abject persecution in one part of the world or another. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab There and then did Allah, your Creator, proclaim He would send against them those who would persecute them till the Day of Resurrection. Allah, your Creator, is swift indeed in putting the law in execution, and He is also Ghafurun and Rahimun. ### Bijan Moeinian Remind them that God has declared that He will rise up against them different people [the last one being the Nazis during 1940s] who will subject them to the harshest persecution over and over again till the Day of Resurrection. Your Lord is the most efficient in punishment and [at the same time] the Most Forgiving [as He has let them to establish their own state of Israel and start acting unjust] and the Most Merciful [leaving the doors open to them to repent and submit themselves to the will of God ("be a Muslim" in Arabic language.)] ### Al-Hilali & Khan And (remember) when your Lord declared that He would certainly keep on sending against them (i.e. the Jews), till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with a humiliating torment. Verily, your Lord is Quick in Retribution (for the disobedient, wicked) and certainly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (for the obedient and those who beg Allâh’s Forgiveness). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Behold! thy Lord did declare that He would send against them, to the Day of Judgment, those who would afflict them with grievous penalty. Thy Lord is quick in retribution, but He is also Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And ˹remember, O  Prophet,˺ when your Lord declared that He would send against them others who would make them suffer terribly until the Day of Judgment. Indeed, your Lord is swift in punishment, but He is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ### Taqi Usmani Recall) when your Lord declared that He would surely keep sending, till the Day of Judgment, those who inflict on them evil chastisement. Ve muhakkak ki O; Gafur'dur, Rahim'dir. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Ve Rabbin, ta Kıyamet Gününe kadar, onların üzerine mutlaka kendilerini çetin bir azaba koşacak kimseler salacağını da bildirmişti: doğrusu, senin Rabbin ceza vermekte çabuktur, ama O aynı zamanda çok esirgeyen, gerçek bağışlayıcıdır. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Rabbin, onların üzerine kıyamet gününe dek kendilerini en kötü cezalandıracak kimseleri göndereceğini bildirmişti.
